Make sure you strap your phone with some kind of rubber bands. I fallen twice -cost ,
me two screens cause internal plastic latches that hold two springs are- pretty lame and your phone would go flying 100% if universal hloder has same internals as original cobi.bike holder.

Roger that!! My iPhone 11 standard in a fairly slim case barely fits and after a jolt at 8-10 mph the phone departed, hit the concrete and slithered about 10 ft. It survived, but how does one secure it better?

The charging is not automatic. You have to scroll up on the odometer and tap the charge icon. At least that's how it works with Trek Allant 8+ S.

I also have the Trek Allant+ 8S with this Cobi display/app. I have a problem with the compass not always indicating the right direction, it tends to be 90° out of phase through half the ride going back to correct and then phasing back to 90° off the correct direction. I’m not sure what causes this and I’m wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Otherwise I really love this display and I’m thinking of ordering it from my other bosh bike system. I do not have a problem with my iPhone 11 S max coming out of the holder, perhaps the larger phone is held tighter by engaging the spring clamp mechanism more at the top range of the force applied (that holds the phone.)

Very nice walkthrough. I have made several comments/answers to questions below. I hope they help. The Smart hub does need some upgrading: like better a mechanism to secure the phones and better documentation. Bosch is pretty slim in this regard. They also need to produce lists of compatible heart rate monitors and cadence sensors.

Great walkthrough! It has to be said that your videos do a lot more than tell us about a given product; they give us a glimpse into what it might be like to actually use and live with the product. On the flip side, I now feel quite torn. I really have my heart set on an e14 drivetrain (for the gearing range), but the smartphone hub now has me seriously considering the prospect of an enviolo setup (at least I wouldn’t have to give up the belt drive too). If speed motors were legal where I live it would be a no brainer. Love the seamless integration of bike computer, navigation, fitness tracking, and hands free(ish) phone control. Bosch is really onto something. Thanks for contrasting the hub’s nav functionality with that of Google maps. I found that quite informative.

    • @Propelbikes

Thanks so much for your detailed feedback and comment! I do suspect that the smartphone hub will eventually be compatible with eShift, but it might be a little while. There will also be the option to add the new Nyon display which was supposed to be launched this summer, but we might be looking at the fall with everything which is going on. Anyway, I hope that’s helpful and I’m sure whatever you chose it will be great!

Thanks Chris for another very helpful video. I really enjoy the Propel e-bike videos. I have had a smartphone hub on my Riese and Mueller Nevo 3 for about 6 months now and have to say that I'm totally underwhelmed by the product. Its best feature is the large speedometer printout on the phone screen. However, it doesn't seem to have an odometer or cumulative mileage total for the bike. This may be available if the motor is connected to the Bosch software in a workshop but as I would like to monitor this myself, it's an obvious feature that is frustratingly absent. Perhaps I have missed something and would be grateful for any advice on how to access this facility if it actually exists. Help?

Despite having misgivings about having one of my local shops install the Smart Phone Hub on one of my new Trek Verve=2 bikes I went ahead and had them order it and reluctantly took my big in at 2:45 one afternoon. Went back two hours later to see a couple of confused guys looking at my bike with parts strewn on the floor. Really, a Trek Dealer that sells bikes with Bosch drives should be able to re & er the motor in 40 to 50 minutes, add another 10 or so to swap out the displays. The sop closed at 5 so I gave them a couple of hours the next day to finish. Thankfully after some debate with the owner the charge to install was minimal which is a good thing as I have just spent over $7000.00 at this shop. Back home there was no problem getting the phone to sync with the hub after setting up an account with Bosch through the Kobi App. The question now is about getting android phones in the hub phone cradle/holder without it activating the phones buttons. All that seems to work is having most of the phone stick out the side of the cradle but that causes the phone to interfere with other controls on the handlebar. Any ideas???
