Something interesting about the other list of things the League of Nations was involved in was how the Italian invasion of Corfu was resolved Much like the Italo-Ethiopian war, it completely favoured Italy when the conflict was resolved, even though Greece was never at fault (or proven to be) for any of it It started because an Italian general, Enrico Tellini was helping Albania and Greece defy a border in 1923, but was killed by unknown murderers in Greece. Italy used this as a reason to invade Corfu when the Greek government's response was not one to Italy's liking (for example refusing the payment of 50 million lires) Greece got the rough end of the resolution when the League told Greece she had to pay and enact certain events that would signify apology for Tellini's murder, despite the cause of his murder never truly being identified. Just many examples of the League favouring bigger nations and disregarding smaller ones because all they have to do is threaten to leave the League or something akin to that Great video as always

The League of Nations never really had any teeth and Japan and Italy exposed this from Manchuria to Ethiopia. Even today the UN seems impotent when it comes to maintaining peace.
I mean, the reason why Italy announced itself as an empire after annexing Ethiopia was that Ethiopia itself was an empire, and after being annexed by Italy, the Imperial Crown of Ethiopia fell to the hand of Italian monarch (titled the King of Italy and Emperor of Ethiopia).

A short historical fact that could have been mentioned is during that speech in June 1936, our Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Titulescu famously reacted to the buffoonery exhibited by the Italian journalists when Emperor Haile Selassie I spoke to the League after Ethiopia had been invaded and occupied by Fascist Italy. He jumped to his feet and shouted: "To the door with the savages!". After that the Italian journalists were thrown out of the room in order to let the Emperor of Ethiopia continue his speech.

He even made sure that there was no way to escape. Apart from this you had the standard racism in all aspects of life that the British showed towards the Indians in their own homeland. But this wasn't anything special that happened only in the 1920s. British rule in India was still a form of systemic plunder during this decade. And the false notion of "Britain giving democracy to India" when in reality not a single Indian had the ability to vote for their government : they were subjects of the empire. The reality is India adopted democracy after the British left, and decided to uphold it unlike some of the African nations. An extremely relevant set of stories from the past - history is yet being written but my hope is the example of the betrayal of Ethiopia and the failure of nations to defeat aggression and/or appease dictatorships is not lost on the present. It may cost a great deal of lives and treasure, but far less to strangle a nascent tyranny bent on conquest than to ignore it and see it grow emboldened and threaten even more nations.

Much like the Italo-Ethiopian war, it completely favoured Italy when the conflict was resolved, even though Greece was never at fault (or proven to be) for any of it
It started because an Italian general, Enrico Tellini was helping Albania and Greece defy a border in 1923, but was killed by unknown murderers in Greece. Italy used this as a reason to invade Corfu when the Greek government's response was not one to Italy's liking (for example refusing the payment of 50 million lires)
Greece got the rough end of the resolution when the League told Greece she had to pay and enact certain events that would signify apology for Tellini's murder, despite the cause of his murder never truly being identified. Just many examples of the League favouring bigger nations and disregarding smaller ones because all they have to do is threaten to leave the League or something akin to that
Great video as always
Now I'm waiting for "How the World Betrayed Czechoslovakia" & "How the World Betrayed Poland"...
Désolé
This may sound strange but the western powers actually would've had a harder time helping Poland and Czechoslavokia due to geography and geopolitics than helping Ethiopia. Ethiopia was betrayed and abandoned we could have helped them. The Czechs and Poles not so much, I'm not saying appeasement was justified, but I am saying not much could've been done
Funny that poland at that time also take czechoslovakia land, tho it later still get cuckednby more ambitious Germant

It sucked for the abyssinians but Italy also freed all the slaves and officially stopped slavery. My grandfather lost the slaves that ran his shop during the occupation. Its not so black and white.

All of these "failures" of the League of Nations were successes in its goal of enforcing capitalism and colonial violence on the world. Notably absent from this list is any of the numerous atrocities committed by the British or French in Africa and Asia during this same time. The millions dead in India at the hands of British capital was the ends and the means of the League of Nations, and so was the Italo-Ethiopian War.
Do please elaborate on the numerous atrocities committed by the British or French in Africa and Asia in the 1920's, As my own knowledge of that decade in the colonies is somewhat lacking outside the Vietnam - French struggle.
So true, and the French wonder why Saharan Africans don't want their troops there!?
@@Dr_Evil_Mc-Bad You could look up about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that took place on 13th April 1919. Troops of the Raj fired indiscriminately on a peaceful crowd that consisted of men, women and even children, until they ran out of ammunition. And this happened on a white man's order.
There could (or more like should) be more, but I'm not a history student, just someone who's interested in history.

But at least we are trying to do better this time.
True, but Russia started this war in 2014 (8 years ago) from annexing of Crimea and installing puppet governments of so called "DPR" and "LPR". The 2022 invasion was simply the attempt to finish the job. How do you think, did world do enough to help us, Ukrainians? We surrendered 3-rd world's nuclrear arsenal for guarantees from USA, UK and russia (Budapest memorandum - total failure of a guarantee if you read it).
Even Civilized countries, like USA and UE block refused to sell us arms. And now russia threatens us and West with nuclear war.
Many electronics in russia's war tech in 2022's was of France, Germany and other countries regardless of the ban of selling weapons to aggressive russia, altough we don't really know how it happend, but there are some suspitions.
In 2008, after russia started a war against small country of Georgia USA interwened and saved Georgia, but with cost of Northern Osetia which is still in russia's grip.
