Makes a great combo gift with a Dibble. Bag together with instructions for use. Put in a clear bag and tie with a 🎀. You now have a gift package ready to go for Christmas or Valentines Day or Easter. Thanks for your usual excellent instructions.
You always have great videos. One idea to share is cutting the foot part and toe off a sock to have a cover for your watch. Use that foot part around your watch. It keeps chips from hitting my watch face and keeps bits and dust from getting stuck to my watch and watchband.
I figured you making a paper pot former when you started cutting the blank for the base, only because I've made these myself a while ago for our local school to make it easier for kids to make paper pots for seed raising, then planting in the ground. They work well, and are a great way of recycling old newspapers. Thanks for sharing Kent,.
hello Kent I made one and indeed it works nice. But also one made that tapers like a coffee cup, easier to stack. You have to cut the paper first, a banana shape. A drop of white wood glue will also help. Ref. You tube several patern making of a Cone Shape.
My finger was on the fast forward button when you said "don't". I almost jumped, like you were here. I never go to the end, just past the sanding. The cherry wood is beautiful.
You got me. I waited for the big reveal to see if I could figure it out before and, of course, I did not. I live with a planter and I'll be checking with her to see if she wants one. Thanks, Ken.
Didn't skip ahead lol, waited for the surprise...very cute, I will add to my have to make list! I need all the information I can get and still find watching wood being turned mesmerising :-)
Representing the metric crew. Love your videos. I was turning yesterday and wasn't sure of something and immediately found one of your videos for advice. Thanks 👍🏻
Thank you! I bought my little yellow tape measure with cm and inches, just for you! I'm trying to kept both systems in my head. It's not easy only being trained in inches and feet. LOL. All the best to you and Happy Turning!
Brilliant idea! I live in an area where city folks come and share plots of gardens on farm fields and very environmentally conscious and sustainability on mind. Will make one or two and see how it goes…thanks for sharing!
I couldn't work out what you were making but kept watching, I think it would be termed a Mandrel but a useful implement for the gardener whatever it's called.
Great project idea, thanks. Also good to explain difference between American and English gouge designations, especially if you are buying Robert Sorby gouges. They are designated by flute width.
Have you seen my Bevel Riding video? and Bowl Gouge videos? Check them out in my playlist. Don't give up. You can do it too!!!!! All the best to you and Happy Turning!
Thanks Tony. Good Question. The holding support for the four-jaw chuck is at the dovetail sides and the flush mount on the top of the jaws. If the tenon or mortise seat down to the base of the chuck you no longer have that two-point contact. The flush face connection to the top of the jaws assures the piece will not shift from side to side when you are turning. Check out this article as well turnawoodbowl.com/5-worst-tenon-shapes-wood-bowl-foot-spigot-attach/ All the best to you and Happy Turning!
I have a question. At the 26minute mark you say you could have actually just done a mortise on the first end rather than a tenon. At this point the project is between centers. Is it difficult to do a mortise while between centers? Maybe a demonstration would be a better way to answer the question? Thanks. Now, back to the video to see what you are turning. 🙂
I skipped ahead because the steps make more sense to me if I know where we’re going. As already mentioned I’m wondering how you make a mortise if you don’t have a tenon to work with unless you use a drill press.
I never look ahead. Never could of guest what you were doing. What a GOOD idea. Thanks Tim
Thank you, Charles (Tim?)! All the best to you and Happy Turning!
I absolutely did not skip ahead, but I’ve made one of these before, so I caught on fairly early on lol.
Fantastic Ben. All the best to you and Happy Turning!

Great idea Ila!! Enjoy and Happy Turning!
I never skip to the end of videos . especially in wood turning . I want to see all the techniques used. This project is genius !
Thank you very much Dale! Happy Turning!

Love it! I waited until the end and was glad I did.
Yay! Thank you, Rachel!
I made one of these for my parents out of cherry I cut down from their yard. I agree, that cherry is so awesome.
O, of course! I can’t believe I didn’t see this coming. And of course, I wouldn’t go to the end… Good Job!
Thank you! Happy Turning!

Ah, you got it Diemen! ;) Happy Turning!
My sister was telling me about making pots from paper but she was using glasses. This would be great!
Fantastic Susan! I hope you get to make a couple. One for each of you. All the best to you and Happy Turning!

Jean, you know technology is really good now a days! LOL Maybe I am watching as you watch. LOL Kidding, that's kinda scary. Happy Turning!
Big brother may be watching us all.
Great Idea. 👍 Greatings from Germany.
Thank you, Thorsten! I hope you enjoy this in Germany! All the best to you and Happy Turning!
You got me. I waited for the big reveal to see if I could figure it out before and, of course, I did not. I live with a planter and I'll be checking with her to see if she wants one. Thanks, Ken.
Oh, she wants one, Josh! Perfect for mother's day too. Happy Turning!
Pretty cool Kent! Thx
Thank you, Michael! Happy Turning!
Wow! What a smart idea! Me likey!! Skipping to the end is counter productive to me learning proper technique so I didn't. Thanks for sharing Kent! 👍🏾
Thank you, Greg! Enjoy and Happy Turning!
Didn't skip ahead lol, waited for the surprise...very cute, I will add to my have to make list! I need all the information I can get and still find watching wood being turned mesmerising :-)
Thank you, Belinda. It's still mesmerizing to me too. ;) Happy Turning!

Fantastic Sam! Let me know how they like the tool. All the best to you and Happy Turning!
I did not skip to the end. Enjoying the process too much to ruin the surprise. 😁 I really learn so much from your videos! Thanks!
Thank you, Denise! All the best to you and Happy Turning!
Hey Kent that’s very cool I’m going to make one of these presses for my wife she starts her own seeds 👍🏻
Sounds perfect, Joel! Happy Turning!
Great little turning Kent.
Thank you, Jack!
Interesting!

I couldn't work out what you were making but kept watching, I think it would be termed a Mandrel but a useful implement for the gardener whatever it's called.
Sounds good Lewis. Thanks and Happy Turning!

Great project idea, thanks. Also good to explain difference between American and English gouge designations, especially if you are buying Robert Sorby gouges. They are designated by flute width.
Cool, thanks Barry. Yeah, I get asked that one a lot! Happy Turning!
You always make the cut at 26:37 look so easy when you do it, I really struggle to make this cut for some reasons
Have you seen my Bevel Riding video? and Bowl Gouge videos? Check them out in my playlist. Don't give up. You can do it too!!!!! All the best to you and Happy Turning!
i confess i was surpised and i watched all tho it was 2 x speed now i need to turn me one of them thanks for the idea
Enjoy! Happy Turning!
Awesome project! Great gift idea. Thank you. 👍👍✌️
Thank you, Gary! Happy Turning!
Nope, didn't skip to the end. I like to see it all come together.
Oh how cool! I need to make a couple of these - one for my wife and one for her friend (they are gardening buddies). Thanks Kent!

Thank you, Mark! Happy Turning!
Kent, great idea, love it. Recently built your drying box which is working fantastically and will be trying this next. Thanks very much. Chris in UK
Fantastic. Thank you, Chris. Enjoy and Happy Turning!
Pretty cool. Good stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it! Happy Turning!
Nice little project 👌
Cherry wood has become my favorite wood to turn lately. It's beautiful, cuts easily and finishes well.
( p.s. -I didn't cheat)
LOL. Thank you! Yes, cherry is fantastic! All the best to you and Happy Turning!
as soon as I saw the rounded top I knew, we use those to make paper pots with students 🙂
Excellent! Thank you, Stuart! Happy Turning!
Another interesting video, Ken. I would like to make one of these, when I get time. I’ve got some projects to catch-up on first. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Jim! Happy Turning!
Curious why at 29:12 you say that the mortise / tenon never seats all the way against the jaws of the 4-way chuck? Love your videos
Thanks Tony. Good Question.

Great idea! Thank you. One thing I'm missing in the video is to see the bottom of the ready paper vessel. How does it look like?
The paper is compressed and formed into a cup basically.
👍👍🔥🔥Super.
Thank you!
OK, I havent skipped to the end yet, but wonder where you got that funny looking dovetail tool (28:02)? It looks homemade!
Check the description. Happy Turning!

You can turn a channel just wide enough for the jaws to enter all with the tailstock in place. Give it a try. Happy Turning!
Thanks for all the videos. I'm just getting into turning and your videos are great! What smock are you wearing? Looking to pick one up.
I have them listed in my Recommended Equipment section under safety gear. www.TurnAWoodBowl.com/gear
PS, not only does the newspaper dissolve, it’s a good carbon source for the soil!
Very nice. Yes indeed Ben! All good. Happy Turning!
I skipped ahead because the steps make more sense to me if I know where we’re going. As already mentioned I’m wondering how you make a mortise if you don’t have a tenon to work with unless you use a drill press.
Thanks. You can make a channel just wide enough for the jaws with the tailstock still in place. Happy Turning!
Still here.
Thank you, Bill! Hope you enjoyed. Happy Turning!
No i watch the all video uihihi
Thank you, Franco! Happy Turning!
Hİ👋👍👌
Hello Erbakan! Happy Turning!
Never fast forward!!
Never! Thank you, Anne ;)
I didn't fast forward but curiously annoyed about why you haven't said what it is yet.....
Sorry, didn't mean to annoy. ;) Happy Turning!
