    Another great idea from a man who knows.
    I used to have every Hustler Resonator for mobile ops with a TS-430. I used a CB Spring mount on the rear quarter of my 1979 Ford Wagon and a Huster mast to get the resonator(s) above the roof line. I drilled and bent a strip of Alu and mounted 2 and sometimes 3 resonators. 40 or 20 up, 17 and/or 12/10 tilted back. The tuning varied only slighty from just 1 to 2 to 3 resonators. It all worked quite well for the several 90 minute drives to/from the New Hampshire/Main coast lines for a day of Salt/Sea/Sun with the Dogs/Kids/Wiffy and once with a Siamese Cat!
    Never thought of using the Hustler Resonators for Portable Ops. Great idea.
    Getting HAM Functional again after a 4 year absence via Mobile/Portable Ops. Too much PowerLine/BCI noise to opperate from new QTH. This vid is a positive addition to my plans.
    Thank You Sir for this and your other excellent posts.....

    Very nice concept. I usually use in portable station, 2tlt antenna and a full wave antenna in vertical position, works perfectly 25 mhz to 30mhz. 7351 and good contacts.

      Hi Stephen. It's a nicely made antenna and works well. I have found that a lot of the beacons don't pick up "test" so well. Not sure if others have the same problem?

    Nice little slant on our hobby. We need to encourage people to build more. I have used similar to the ground mounted box, they work really well on beaches. I wouldn't have bothered with the adaptor/piece of threaded bar. Just remove what is basically an elongated nut and screw the hustler straight on its place. Keep up the good work.

      Hi Trevor. you are right but the reason I did it that way was so the whole mount remained rigid when swapping antennas. Thanks for your support. 73s Peter

      @@watersstanton Nor are mine Peter lol. Just had my first ever contact with America today. On my End Fed Half Wave antenna I managed to get high up in a tree using lengths of pvc electrical conduit joined together with a hook on the end made from a coat hanger. From the hook I tied a short piece of rope with a home made insulator on the other end to connect the end of the antenna wire to. When I had the wire hooked on a branch I just pulled the conduit down leaving the wire up there. Pretty hard to see the wire but it is still up there even after the high winds we had lol.

    I always been thinking about the common mode chokes in mobile usage, I have done some small testing with a mag mount, but don't record the results, I can remember the swr was impacted, and also the metal around the ferrite (cars body)
    I'm just living in the belive that peple usually don't care about common modes in mobile hf, I might be totally wrong though, but so far what I seen it's quite rare to see chokes on mobile instalations

    If I might comment - way too many words conveying far to little information.
    What’s in the box?
    What length radials how many?
    The ground clamps are called tent pegs. Speaking of which whilst you’re there have you considered grounding it?

      Hi Robbie. I believe the Chameleon is an end fed wire with 9:1 transformer? It’s OK for portable operation although the efficiency on the low bands will be low. Thanks for your input. 73s Peter

    how do you calculate the length of the counterpoise for these antennas?

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there,
      If you are using a single wire, you need a quarter wave on the band of operation. Google has calculators for this. But you can often get good results with several shorter radials. 73s Peter.

    Where can you purchase a 3/8" male-to-male stud adaptor as featured in this video? I tried your website, but hamradiostore.co.uk/ seems to be down.

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mike,
      Go to a DIY outlet and buy a long 3/8" bolt. Screw on a nut and then cut the head off. Then unscrew the nut ro smooth out the saw cut. Hope that helps? 73s Peter.

      The engineering is up to the user and the conditions in which it is used.
