My favorite part of the event was seeing the innovation to the core gameplay loop. Swordsoul was the most obvious one, as it could play an in-engine burn axis, replace it's handtrap slots with anti-burn, and plan-B make an actual endboard that people would be hard-pressed to out. However, I also saw a cool Drytron deck that operated under the theory of "one drytron plus anything is enough to kill an opponent" while also being the best deck to play with heralds, and I ran a psy-frame deck with zero burn spells operating under the theory that a ztk format is best countered by running 30 hand traps, and hand traps that can synchro into black-winged dragon or baronne at will lets me have game against both meta threats and rogue playables.
I decided to sit down and learn D/D for this event, grabbing an old D/D ladder D/D and changing all the handtraps for anti-burn and maxing out on Leonidas. Overall it performed okay, it made a decent enough endboard to stop going second decks like Tenpai or Numeron while completely locking out Burn decks with Spell/Trap negates and all the other tools D/D has to mitigate and prevent burn. Not optimal for the event but was a lot of fun
Purrely! In-engine answers to burn with Pretty and Sleepy, draw into anti-burn handtraps, and basically just having a normal gameplay loop otherwise. Even benefits from the condition since Purrely sometimes struggles to push for game
Last year I did the Swordsoul thing, so this year I did Vanquish Soul, since if Plan A ("Borger Burn") doesn't kill them in the Draw Phase, Plan B ("just play Vanquish Soul") is still ready to go.
The two best master duel events recently have been this and the 2014 one. Truly proves that if there if one thing Yu-Gi-Oh players hate it's playing Yu-Gi-Oh.
I loved the 2014 even, back to how yugioh should still be. All the cool, this shit is so broken(in 2014) still gets mind blown by mirror force. You could tell who the real players were, cause in 2014, we most certainly ran battle traps still.
Thats what i did! Won two of my games the sec i played an Aromage card the 3rd guy actually tried to burn me to death despite the fact i ended my 1st turn with over 6K in LPs
I added 3 loci, 3 dryas, 3 healer, and 3 of the link 3 (was it dryades? I forgor) to my typical burn deck. People just surrender when they realize that trying to burn me just increases my lp lol
I felt like this year people played more anti-burn cards or they were just more willing to spend SR to craft leonidas. Another interesting innovation i saw this year was that people played volcanic queen to out leonidas and use as a soul of fire target. I had less fun playing this event this year, but i still think this is my favourite masterduel event. Definitely helps that it only lasts half a week
On 2024 event, I dont want to craft leonidas because I thought the event was going to be one off. But seeing it happens again just makes me think its an investment for next 2026 event
Leonidas is legitimately the Edison Gorz of this format, a big guy that prevents every deck from being just otk, having to play some defensive handtraps and ways to get around him like quickplays and crossout
This event was fun because of how many people surrendered to me after I got Des Wombat or Prime Material Dragon on the field, as well as how many people surrendered after I used Rainbow Life to gain huge amounts of LP off of their burn cards.
The most funny thing about this event is, that do many people forgot the existence of the battle phase. I won way more duels because I wasn't attacked than I was supposed to
I have been playing Labrynth with all the handtraps replaced by burn preventing ones and 2 Nature's Reflection for trap trick search. It's really funny to learn who can't read.
Dinomorphia + ways to mill Dinomorphia effect damage protection trap cards + effect damage nullifiers handtraps, trap cards and Trap of Board Eraser = you'll win a lot of duels in that event.
I Decided To Play A Different Way To Burn. Ancient Warriors Tax Man Turbo. An Ancient Warriors Deck Focused On Turboing Out Don Ying With A level 7+ AW On Board Going First. 1 Don Ying Was Easy, 2 Was Usually Possible And Sometimes It Was Possible To Shoot For The Moon And Drop All 3. This Gets Around All The Anti-Burn Tech As It's Making Them Pay Life Points, Not Burning Them And If They Played Their Cards Incorrectly, They'd Just Be Locked Out Of The Game Once They Hit
Won this event with Dinomorphia because people forget that the traps have grave year effects that prevent all effect damage for the turn, granted I die if I don't get the effect off or draw badly but that's what the anti burn hand traps and burial goods are for.
Played aroma with a bunch of anti burn cards, and had a lot of fun. Eco was the mvp of the deck as he's a plant + anti burn. Dryas/Dryades are also very good
I love playing prank kids as a survive the shit storm deck. Gains 1 k life every turn. Burns 500 every turn (including opponents) has a guy that can attack directly. Still sets up double raigeki to interupt sword soul decks and has SO much space for hand traps. I will say the secret effect the traps shuffling names into the deck and dropping opponents monsters attack is hilarious to scam the secret wins. Also the ghost girl that burns is so nice to have for games versus decks that are just doing what they do normally.
I had fun in this one First i did It the normal way, then i used VW to make a tzolkin into the RDA that burns for exactly 2500 and then i crafted the flower cardians to make a double lightshower to real 3k in the draw phase
it's not a good idea to build decks specifically for an event like this with how expensive they are especially now. But since I already had it, I played Trickstar. Pretty funny to have basically a constructed deck for this
Unironically some of the most fun I've had with master duel. Which is strange, because I usually hate the non-games that end in a single turn by comparing who got the best first hand.
I figure its because its snappy and has cards that people don't really see outside of this event. Duels take legit 2 minutes from the coin toss to the end screen so you get over it quickly, unloke main game
I'm surprised I didn't see more blackwings, like a full on blackwing core with x3 all of the anti burn handtrap once you make the dragon (the OG one) you win 'cause it makes you immune to burn
What's funny to me is that even with this fun event that is clearly meant to signify the fireworks with all the burn, people will still complained on how "unbalanced" the event is and how shit it is since they can't play their normal decks. Smh
I didn't even notice if they banned burn cards when I played it. I played it super early just for the 3 wins. And everyone was doing stupid long ass combos just to get Lightning stormed.
People running burn is why I just played Swordsoul with Burn negation and 3 Tremendous Fire. If you go first and they don't stop anything you burn 1200 and set up Qixing Longyuan to burn the rest. If you go second and negated their burn, you can just hit face through Eco or Leonidas.
Just one of the *MANY* reasons I have to play 2 of any given garnet in a deck: 0:51 Also, you know Joseph doesn't play this game much when he doesn't play to get the most Duel Result points and only just *_NOW_* reached Proficiency lv 18...
Dude I’ve been playing this event for hours multiple days in a row. It’s so fun to try out multiple different dogshit anti-burn cards to see which works with the Vanquish Soul engine for reveals.
I just used the Transaction Rollback + Earthbound Release + Junk Collector + Nightmare Archfiends FTK, and yes this is a 4 card combo so it doesn't always work but when it does, that's 8400 of damage to the face.
I don't get why people aren't playing 3 Eco, 3 Damage Juggler, 3 Flame Eater. The Performapals are straight-up burn negates and Eco is a burn floodgate on a 1700 body. Burn spells are great, but if you're going second and make it to turn 2, you know you can just kill them with tiny monsters, right? Damage Juggler can even prevent battle damage for an attack, which saved me against a Dimension Wall once
Its actually so funny that the new years event meta is literally just throwing fireworks at each other
My favorite part of the event was seeing the innovation to the core gameplay loop. Swordsoul was the most obvious one, as it could play an in-engine burn axis, replace it's handtrap slots with anti-burn, and plan-B make an actual endboard that people would be hard-pressed to out. Playing Runick with the anti-burn handtraps plus soul absorption, even just Munin pass helps a lot lol
I made black winged dragon instead of chixiao if I didnt need to search a longyuan lol
Honestly one of the more normal thumbnails in spite of it all.
Really says a lot about the usual thumbnail on this channel lmao
You could say it's almost boring
Agreed

@@mattevans1643that’s a very funny comment in retrospect, didn’t everyone quit in 2014 due to pendulums? I least that was people said back in the day
@@mattevans1643 triple torrential and 3 compulsory in ocg my guy
Very cute that the new year event has so many people using fire crackers.
Huh. That's actually really funny. Never thought of it like that
Why do does it feel like chain link 3 Fire Cracker when I pee
cuse you dont jork enough, you need to tenderize for a more plasent stream
because you touch yourself at night!
Might wanna talk to Kozaky about that, he might have a remedy for you
hey diva! that's not 1000 points of burn damage you're feeling, its a UTI :(
Shoutouts to Des Wombat + Moon Mirror Shield carrying me through every Leonidas possible.
I wanna see someone show up in this with Aromages and just gain so many lp that opponent can't do anything
Thats what i did! Won two of my games the sec i played an Aromage card the 3rd guy actually tried to burn me to death despite the fact i ended my 1st turn with over 6K in LPs

Muscle nurse turns burn into heals
@@track8regret the full Aromage combo is crazy
At 3:00 the format is called 3 Card Blind, and it's still active with monthly tournament reports on TH-cam
some people made a yugioh version of it as well btw! it's 3 main deck cards + 1 extra deck card and also very fun
They'll have to print burn support in 8025 or this event is ruined
Mad respect for the guy running Rapid-Fire Magician. Not an optimal play, but running him alongside Dark Room of Nightmare was pretty fun ngl.
I felt like this year people played more anti-burn cards or they were just more willing to spend SR to craft leonidas.

I crafted an entire Vanquish Soul Deck for this event. Borgeeeer!
Yeah cause SR is worthless now that every deck is 75% UR lmao
I agree. New year’s format is by far my favorite, most hilarious format. I love it!
I appreciate that he always screems on stream so he can have perfectly cut scream on vids as an enjoyer of those I approve
Fun fact, Three Card Blind is still somewhat popular. There's a youtube channel dedicated to it and monthly tournaments.
Truly the thumbnail of all time
This is the greatest money match format of all time
Yo what is the music at 2:20 ?

I had a blast running Windwitch during this event. Using a 1 card combo through Ice Bell to incidentally burn lethal off it and both their synchros
The most funny thing about this event is, that do many people forgot the existence of the battle phase. I won way more duels because I wasn't attacked than I was supposed to
The spyral one was the best one, full spyral combo they mill leonidas with zombie vamp and take it which we cant beat only to link it off and scoop
I'm honestly surprised nobody was playing red-eyes flare metal pass
Probably because your opponent can deal more damage then you take with each activation
I ran it in my kash while doing this.
I did, its synergize in Vanquish Soul with Leonidas being lvl7 and Borgor 😂
Dont worry guys. We will have a playable format for this event in only 1,975 years. And a decent one in 7,975 years.
As a Vanquish Soul player, I love this trial duel event. It's so fun to just play a middling VS hand to win.
Happy New year Joseph. Have a blessed successful year bro. God bless you and your family.
This event is like a western shootout. First one to run out of bullets (burn or anti burn cards) loses
I got back into Master Duel during this event, cleared the entire duel pass in a couple sittings
Oh I didn’t know it contributed to the duel pass! Veeery interesting now ima have to play it 🙄

It's just the New Year's fireworks.🎆🎆🎆
Fireworks format for new years makes sense 🎉
Used Gimmick puppet but focused on making the disaster leo win condition to get the tactician title. Probably best chance to do this.
I just played Dinomorphia, but having low lp worked out well plus in engine counters to effect damage.
I tried running lab with relay soul turbo for fun but it was too slow against the decks it mattered against
Most balanced Yu-Gi-Oh format.
Aroma in this event was so fun. getting to 8000 lp turn 1 was unbeatable
it's not a good idea to build decks specifically for an event like this with how expensive they are especially now. But since I already had it, I played Trickstar. Pretty funny to have basically a constructed deck for this

I liked this format. You haven't had a rush until you've used Crossout on a Hanewata.
This event is just playing fireworks 🎆🎇 Happy new year
Nobody would’ve expected the gustav deck
It’s hype af
Just playing a deck you want + anti-burn stuffs and winning in this event is so satisfying
Well it was more enjoyable than the duelist cup
Not sure which burns hotter, the decks in this event, or joseph's rage in saga
I enjoyed the conversation chat was having about how MBT keeps dusting cards and then recrafting them like 3 days later
This event is so good! It could be its entire new format
Swordsoul is really funny in this too
I played blind second Mikanko with Hanewata/Eco for this event.
Best part about this event is how fast you can complete the battle pass
I played what I always grab at a time like this. Masquerade turbo

Leonidas is to the burn event what Dweller was for Tear format
If they banned the burn cards the event might actually be fun but then suppose it'd be "this card can attack your opponet directly" turbo instead

10:42 huh how tf is volcanic emperor supposed to work in this?
Crossout/called by will go crazy
The best event for blackwing players. Silly burn players. It doesn't work on us going first :)
I still have to wonder: Is it possible to play Aromage in this format.
... I just got in and out with Generaider. When any hit kills and you can play hanewata in engine...
I played my Dragon Link FTK deck
Yo EUEU is my man, playing Ice Barriers this event lmao. Ice barriers best deck!
He lost this one btw
I didn’t realize this game modes gimmick and I joined with gold pride punk, but hey I won cause the opponent was playing a normal deck lmao.
Another GREAT Thumbnail
3 times I burned my opponent down to less than 1200 LP and summoned "The Tax Dragon".
You get 1 card effect, what will it be?
Really makes you think why nobody used this strategy in the duelist kingdom arc.
With what cards? Sparks??
New year's fireworks I guess?
I just play R4 performage trapeze magician turbo. Did ya'll know that hat tricker has a on field effect lol
Maxed out my duel pass on this event
Super easy and fun as hell
I made a deck whose only purpose is to turbo out number 14. It's funny seeing opponents not reading it and game ending themselves lol
tucantyler
I hate how good your timing was
cant wait for the year 9000 when everyone will be drawing 2 cards in this event

I played des wombat during this and the amount of times ppl didn't read was astounding 😂
What's the decklist joseph
Imagine they do this next year, but ban _every single burn card._
Was playing Gorz because it's cute
I just threw Gallis the star Beast into my VS / Swordsoul decks. Some games i win almost instantly lol
Good video 👍
Cheaper than renting a Tesla Cybertruck and driving to Vegas so this is gonna have to do
Its so weird to say that this is the most fun event in master duel
The point of the event is to be a clown fiesta, so losing doesn't feel bad and any game that goes beyond turn 2 is hilarious to be a part of
