    Hey I watched your video I'm thinking of buying a brand new 175 and it seems like Florida has the best prices I live in Connecticut I was gonna do the install myself just like I did on my last motor but they're telling me that the dealer has to check it for the warranty so what did you do as far as the 5 year warranty or Or should I just play dumb and say I bought the boat with the motor on it?? The people I talk to said at the Marina they want like 5 grand install it so they can warranty that's crazy

      Semper Fi! Just put a DF40 on a 1958 15' wooden runabout. Plan on splashing next week, only because I work 12s for the next 5 days. Otherwise, I would probably be in the water right now, we live on a river in N. Michigan.

    What oil for break in? Just put on a DF40 and am torn. Anything from factory leans to their semi synthetic OEM oil, which I have no problem with, but from my understanding a conventional oil should be used for break in. I'm an electrician not a mechanic, but all the reasoning seams sound from what I can gather. In life I generally go with factory recommendations but can't find any specific for initial break in, just 10w40 marine grade. Makes me assume their oil should be fine from the get-go.

      OEM Suzuki oil is recommended

      @@bayoubanditcharters Right on, trying to get my hands on some as we speak. Everyone is closed right now though. I'll order it in case no one has it around locally, if I can get some before it shows up I'll be ready for my 20hr service. I just want to splash this boat, it's been a long time coming. Thanks again.

    • @bayoubanditcharters

      Actually not that much. I can’t remember exactly, but around 15 gallons

  • @mikestevens2053
    @mikestevens2053 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    for the 3,000 rpm portion: do you stay at a steady 3,000 rpm the entire time, or do you take it through a range not exceeding 3,000 rpm? The latter actually makes more sense to me.

    • @bayoubanditcharters
      @bayoubanditcharters  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I varied my RPM's about every 15 min. 2,400-3,000 then 2,600-3,000 and so on. Suzuki did tell me to run it a little harder than the book says to make sure you seat those piston rings! The only issues they have had on new motors were them making oil due to people babying them too much on break-in. The less idle time the better!

    • @michaeljanikowski3170
      @michaeljanikowski3170 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bayoubanditcharters I agree with @mikestevens2053. I’m interpreting the manual as running the engine UP to 3000 rpms for the first 2 hours (including the 15 min of idling). Not constantly for 2 hours. Then for the remaining hour, UP to 4000 rpms, not constantly for an hour. Here in the Midwest, we don’t all have the water space to run on plane for hours at a time! The break in is just working up to those higher rpms, rather than maintaining them.

    If you break it in on a sailboat, are you supposed to pull the anchor to idle it in gear or let the sailboat run over the anchor and what if idle is too weak to fight the current I'm trying to figure out how to do this without being a hazard on the water 🤔

    • @bayoubanditcharters
      @bayoubanditcharters  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I defiantly would not have the anchor out, you want very little idle time. You need to get heat in the motor to seat those rings.

    • @kenh6722
      @kenh6722 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bayoubanditcharters I think it said warm up and then 15 minutes in gear, but would it move a nine thousand pound sailboat, with the old engine idle and current it would not move at all 🤔 Yes I've heard this is a more powerful engine,, but would in idle vs Biscayne bay full ocean currents even move it, I just don't want to get into a situation where the anchor is up and the current is stronger than what it can do just idling, in a way I'd prefer to do it tied to a dock, but the ones around here are shallow, and then I have thoughts what if I actually have to give it gas to overt going into the shallows or to prevent getting grounded, would it hurt the engine if I had to do that

    • @bayoubanditcharters
      @bayoubanditcharters  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would be fine. It want hurt a thing, they don’t want you to crank it up and immediately go full throttle, lol. Just get in an area where you can idle in gear for about 10 minutes then continue with the break in.
