Building the simplest router lift design I could find on YouTube (simple, cheap DIY Router table)

- If you have been looking for a simple router lift design for a router table, I have thankfully watched 10 million hours of youtube looking for the simplest one!
I found a video by GVM corner, which was by far the cheapest and simplest solution, that needed the least amount of specialist tools. All told, it cost £15 (some scrap ply wood, nuts, bolts, threaded rod, chain and some hooks!)
This video should hopefully be an in depth look at the process, and I show the results at the end. It will answer:
How to build a simple router table
How to build a simple router lift
How to build a cheap router table
How to build a cheap router lift
I use the Bosch POF 1200 AE, but it should work on most plunge routers!

Thanks for your honesty in this great video. My favourite saying is, "I've learnt so much from my mistakes, I plan to make some more!" 😂 Thanks for talking/narrating too, I don't learn much from videos with no narrating. Love the silent music too! Well done, young man!
Thank you very much! Been learning how the videos can be most helpful so I appreciate the feedback 😃
I love how you keep it real and work around your mistakes to get the job done. Respect 👌
Thank you! Made plenty on this one, will do an update video with some lessons learned in a few weeks :)
Jajajajaja I'm literally in your shoes!! When you made a mistake, I thought "That is me!!"
Good job
Yep, plus one. I chuckled a few times, thinking "I've done that!"
Nice job in the end. : ) Thank you.
What a good video, faults an all.
I like your humor.
Diy is not about perfection but rather problem solving.
Thank you very much! My videos are more about the joy of the learning process and less about displaying any level of skill, glad you enjoyed!

Thank you!
Nice one fella!
I’d get a washer between the plywood and the head of the adjuster screw on top of the table. Especially using a drill may weaken the plywood.
I do love those sketches as well 👍👍
Ah yes that’s a good idea! I’ll get that done, I can imagine using the lift and then the screw just disappearing one day haha 😂 and thank you, need to get a 3D model software that I can record I think!
I would put a washer under the table insert too - between the rotating locked nuts and the plywood.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Subscribed
I love the lift. Simple, cheap, and sturdy. I wonder I'd you might even take one more link off chain out for a bit higher lift.
I love the honesty of your build, I'd also led to some entertainment. I think we can all identify with "DOH" moments that you demonstrated. Thanks again for the video!
I actually did end up going one link further up the chain to raise it higher - works wonders now!
And thanks very much, just make these for a bit of fun while I’m learning, so you’ll be unsurprised to hear there are many more of those moments than what makes it in to the video 😂
I really enjoyed the video, it really reminded me of me 50 years ago, you've got a great attitude.
The rise of all civilisations is founded on mistakes.
Best of luck and thank you.
Thank you very much! The mistakes are plentiful but always the best way to learn!
Hi pal, I am glad I've found your video as I was looking for something fairly simplento makr and I also have the bosh router.
Just one thing that I just discovered, get a collet/shank extension, it basically allows the router bit to go way higher up. I've seen one for about £20 on Amazon.
This is a great idea - I have got a new router lift design in the works but this may avoid the need for it!
Good job, love the simplicity!!
Thanks mate! I butchered my description of it, hopefully you can see what I meant haha 😂
Great work, man. love it ( making it now )
Let me know how it goes!
Best not to pass your fingers over the cutter. If there is a fault in the wood it could break and rout your fingers. I know because decades ago I trimmed one of my fingers, fortunately by very little.
Great video. I’m going to try it. Off to the iron ware shop.
It felt sketchy as I did it, appreciate the advice, will come up with a fingerboard system I think! Let me know how you get on with it 😃
Ingenious simplicity❤
Thank you! Though I did steal the idea haha 😂
Very cool. I enjoyed the part's where you mess up almost as much as I do.
That’s most of the video! 😂
Very nice video. just a thing, be more positive with yourself 😊 we all do silly mistakes. At the end it came good and this is what matter 👌
Thank you! Self deprecation is all I know but I shall do my best 😂
Very Heath Robinson, but very good. Thinking of trying a scissor jack see if that works. Well done!
Ashamed to admit I had to google the reference - but Ill take it! 😆 I also thought of the scissor jack, I do think that is potentially even cheaper and simpler, I think Dean over at Woodwork journey used one for a while!
Well done ! I enjoy your channel.
Thank you! Plenty more stuff planned for the future, slowly getting the workshop built!
Why didn’t you plane or sand the inset to fit the hole rather than chisel and sand the hole 🤔 enjoyed your get it done attitude 👏
Good question! Honestly, because I didn’t think of it haha, I am rebuilding it soon so I will do that next time 😃
Very entertaining! Like n subscribed
Thank you! Appreciate the sub 😃
More sketches!
Great stuff mate and great entertainment! Works ok I guess for a medical torture device, but please be careful as I can envisage a few spine tingling moments 🤣
Thank you! Definitely working on getting an upgraded version, it’s good for an interim solution but you’re right, some uncomfortable moments haha 😂
Get the extreme extension adapter so you can change the bit from top
Been a few suggestions for this so I will have to look in to it!
@@thornedesignco I just saw these in another post and one would help me so I thought it would be perfect for you.
@thornedesignco
Make sure to check the shaft diameter. For as far as I saw the extreme extension adapter only comes in 1/2 inch which doesn’t fit this model router.
If you find anything that does fit please let me know.
Also another problem with extension is the limited travel on this model. Only 5,6cm, so your bit will be too high in many cases.
@@barthijwegen5448 Google - Amazon 6mm to 6mm router bit extension rod.
To solve the height problem, just lower a link or two in the chain.
Heath Robinson - but it works. Better than nothing.
Looking to improve it - it has been a useful stop gap until a more permanent solution :)
Sharp tools in blunt hands , but it seems you did manage to maintain all your appendages . Word to the wise experimentation with equipment that rotates at such high speed , is not necessarily the best course of action . But ha we did go to the moon apparently . Bless you. 😂
I’m as surprised as you!
I appreciate your mistakes dialog. I was considering building one of these but jez, I think I'll just buy one.
I think there are some decent plates you can pick up at reasonable prices - I enjoy the process of building them but if I took in to account the cost of my time it is definitely more cost effective to buy one!
Why did you not detach the base from the router to take the springs out that will always be compressed when the router is up. Take the springs out to take the pressure off the lift and it will give you more adjustable height.
Hey! I think this system only works because the springs allow it to lower (I.e., I do not think gravity alone would lower the lift) - I may have misunderstood your question so apologies if so!
If your thread assembly is correct you should be able to raise and lower the router turning it up or down.
I have incorporated a system that does this in a new router table design I am building - should hopefully get to it and have a video up in a few weeks time, thank you!
Great video. Only one I've found using a Bosch router like mine, gonna try this . By the way, is that an Einhell table saw , and if it is where did you source the long rip fence, have been trying to find one for mine.
Thank you very much! The table saw is a Bosch unfortunately, and I wouldn’t recommend the fence either haha 😂

Was a great video to learn from!
How do you keep the router running? Thanks
There are zip ties holding down the power trigger and then I use an extension cord with a power switch as a cheap and simple solution, didn’t want to faff around with re-wiring haha!
Good lift, poor nothing
It's be a lot cheaper just ordered Router lifted from Amazon...
You’d think so but this did actually cost me about £15 all told, and I enjoy the process of figuring it out!
A router lift is definitely worth the money, I might still end up getting one!
