Quick, CHEAP and EASY workshop wall storage
In this video I add some much needed wall storage to the workshop, that actually ended up being free for me, and would be very cheap for anyone else looking to replicate. It required no drilling into the wall, and can be done in a couple of hours, or probably less if you are not an idiot like me.
This is a great solution for DIY workshoppers like me, and has added tonnes of storage to my small workshop!

How NOT to install floating shelves.
มุมมอง 58321 วันที่ผ่านมา
This video follows on from my DIY floating shelf build, where I finally get ready to install them at the clients house. I first fail to drill the holes in the correct orientation, and then manage to drill through an electric wire and blow the fuse for the clients downstairs lights… Overall, a great success. #diy #woodworking #woodwork #homedecor
How to make Floating Shelves with concealed hardware
มุมมอง 1.1Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I show you how I made DIY floating shelves with concealed hardware. I got rough sawn wood for this, milled it in my garage, glued it together and then re milled before finishing with a routed channel and drilled holes for the hardware, a bevelled edge and rubio monocoat walnut finish. This gave us 8 shelves that cost 1/5th of the cost of buying these ready finished, and were built...

so great work man! I was project very similar one using steel cable. but this is easier and probably get the same result!!!! congratulations!!!!
Why so many holes?
Each bracket has 4 screws to mount them to the wall, 3 brackets per shelf so 12 holes per shelf, for 8 shelves, was a lot haha!
@@thornedesignco Oh, it seemed only half the holes were used for the bracket. Must have been editing.
Yeah I edit out lots of the repetitive parts, apologies for the confusion!
Best. Christmas. Ever.
Nice gammon
For the love of Pete start using glue!
This build was in my woodworking infancy, lesson learned!
After watching many builds, this is exactly what I am looking for. Very helpful video, mistakes and all. The amount of trial and error, mistakes, etc. is a typical day for me. Usually frustrated and feeling stupid for not thinking two steps ahead and constantly redoing stuff. Thanks for keeping it real! Subscribed...
Thank you! It is still going strong as well, best of luck with your build 🙏
@thornedesignco I appreciate it
I liked watching you lifting the shelves with your legs
Health and safety approved technique
Want to trade back? JUST KIDDING
Sure I hope you don’t mind if it is slightly shorter…
The joys of working alone! Nothing worse than trying to hold something heavy in place whilst trying to screw it down. Good little work around in the end.
Thanks mate, was actually pretty happy with how it worked out in the end haha 😅 I always find the most enjoyable part is figuring it out as you go!
Nice work fella! Workshops are constantly evolving beings in their own right. I’m a drawer guy more than a shelf one LOL
Thanks mate - got a plan to build it into a proper productive space, just need to free up some floor space first!
So... possibly something you thought about, but wouldn't turning the board 180 so the up is facing down fix your first wall fitting? Honestly still a great job, I've only started to drill holes in my walls and praying that things will stay there :P
I was hoping so, the edit doesn’t show but I spent a good 15 mins praying some combination would make it work 😂 we are going to reinstall this week so hoping for a better result!
nice and simple dude 👌
Thanks mate, a surprisingly trouble free project!
Nice rack!
You should recognise those shelves 👀
@@thornedesignco oh my god 😳
Smart
Thanks!
@@oliviapartridge5187 yup
Couldn't find a stud in that wow,ok but good job anyway
Thanks Jason! You didn’t see the stud putting the shelves up?? 😂

"WE'VE DONE ONE!" What exactly did Chris do?
Hannah Chris was very helpful, he fed me and provided entertainment of the highest quality
Wait a hot second… is that Hannah’s notepad???
Here’s to hoping she doesn’t notice
Oh I've noticed.
Glad its not at my house
As am I!
Terrible bracket design.
They are pretty sturdy!
What would you suggest?
AHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I’ve found myself on a wholesome comment thread of friends 😂 much love to all of you
It’s good to have friends who still like you after you blow the light fuse for the downstairs drilling through a wire 🤦😆
I did aswell. I bet when he drilled the wire, it left him shocked....
😂
How can you be sure there are no wires behind where you're drilling?
HANNAH IM SORRY
Lol cple reasons, iykyk
They actually look so good, thank you so much Harry 🙏🏼
My pleasure!
I hope there were no electrical disasters... Not sure why I think there would be, I just get a hunch.
Hannah plz
Im a little bit confused.. can you please show the process for the other wall with the left most screw went in?
Yes I remember this one was a good one
I want some

Looks great
You speak kind words
Hannah if you see this comment apologies for your notebook getting whacked
I’m scared
WAIT WHAT
Good shelves, poor drilling
Sorry Chris
Hope you didn’t blow a fuse by drilling through a wire
It’s like you have inside information
I just lost brain cells reading this 🙃
Tidy work brother 🙌🏼
Thanks mate, more to come!
Neat
Thnx
Pretty cool
You’re what
Awesome. Tidy. Efficient. Clean work brother!
Thank you sir 🙏
I wonder what they'll look like installed
TOMORROW
Good job!
Thank you!
Off to watch the full video
Much obliged
How much was the job cost
All told for 8 shelves, I think around £400 in cost 😃
That drill press solution felt very relatable. Think we’ve all done something similar along the way. Genius though. How do the shelves stay on the prongs? IE what’s to stop someone pulling the shelf away from the wall? Is there a screw you have to align from underneath or something?
I was going to use an adhesive, but that isn’t an ideal solution so I’m going to be adding a set screw of some kind before I install - any other ideas of the cleanest way to keep them on the wall? 😂
@ Afraid not, sorry. My only experience with floating shelves has been Ikea ones years ago and I didn’t make a great job of those. Set screw sounds like a good idea though.
Can you add a QR code so that we can direct people to this video when they say what lovely shelves we have?
Don’t because I actually thought about this 😂
... There has been a mistake.. we wanted these 800m long...
Holy smokes this is awkward
Great video mate.
Thanks mate! Just need to get them Installed now
Good choice. This model is really well appreciate in France even if the brand did not exit anymore. Marius Hornberger owns the same and makes some interessant improvements that you can watch on his channel.
Ah thank you, I will go and check that out!
I like this one😂
Haha thank you!
Haha Great video man 👌😅
Thanks mate!

Terrible timing 😮
Wearing a hoodie (well its swinging straps) while working at the table saw (or whatever rotating device) could have a severe impact on the woodworker. Well a saw blade will cut a 💀… 🤐
A very good point! I do try not to, seemingly slipped here 😨
I wonder what these would look like in my living room 🤔
