At my dad’s funeral the first presidency spoke and elder christofferson. My family didn’t get to speak we only got to pick out musical numbers. Also prior to his death he was a quadriplegic for six years due to a horrible accident and how the church handled releasing him from his calling was really shameful too. There’s so much in the church with death and illness that they just don’t deal well with. I think there’s so much to unpack around these issues. Ps thank you for your podcast. It has been so nice to listen to your thoughts on so many things I’ve often had my own thoughts on. Keep it up.

36:10 what’s messed up about the patriarchal blessing saying that one of this woman’s children will leave the church is that the patriarchal blessings are predicated on a persons worthiness so it is in essence saying that if the mom is righteous/worthy then that means it will come to pass that one of her children will leave the church.

Hi! As someone who had experienced it I hope you do an episode on discovering sexuality within a hetero marriage, it’s so common and so hard.

Yes. Anger is a useful emotion! A friend recommended a book that helped me understand and handle my emotions, "The Language of Emotions". I'm 62 so I was raised by parents who were in the patriarchy so I'm also working thru accepting all my emotions and not feeling guilty when I get angry w people who are misbehaving.

I would say, the bucket list family, demonstrates more of that back and forth of shining and sharing what’s important to each of them in their lives. I think recently the mom just went on a book tour while the dad sat back with the kids and really rallied her on and got the kids to rally mom. The are LDS as well.

I really hate all the discussions about Ballerina Farm. All women are subjected to patriarchy, what that woman lives is an extreme form. So, what needs to happen to women so society will say “Nope, that’s it, that is too far, we will not accept that”?! If that is not too far for us yet then we are still neglected in my opinion.
I love your analysis though because even is Hannah is happy and thriving (she does have a lot of privileges) that doesn’t matter. We are talking about women in general.

I forgot which saint it is in the Catholic Church but one of them really emphasizes the care of animals and I wonder if the reading on that saint would mention and animals in heaven.

44:58 how did you get a point where you could unabashedly admit to masturbating? As part of the church stuff that’s hard to cast off, I imagine the person who wrote in might struggle less with trying the masturbation but as part of being embarrassed to be a sexual being, as you pointed out, and as happens to a lot of women, could be embarrassment about it being known that masturbation is being practiced. That can become a stumbling block to the masturbation being healing.

I offset my previous Mormon footprint by throwing away a copy of the Book of Mormon when I stay at a Marriott. #savetheplanet

The Mormonism needs to be acknowledged as much as the cultural pressures some women feel to get a degree, become a boss and then have one child. There has been a great deal of evidence done on this subject and it is overwhelming on Ballerina moms side that she will be happier in the long term. Granted there are some that feel pressured to become mothers and all that and yes they can be unhappy in the long term. Typically this is a result of growing up and wondering what could have been and those people will find any reason they can to blame it on something other than it just being a part of life.

If we're not going to cite sources, this makes just as much sense:
the Feminism needs to be acknowledged as much as the mormon pressures some women feel to get a husband, become a wife and have 8 children. There has been a great deal of evidence done on this subject and it is overwhelming on the Feminist moms side that she will be happier in the long term. Granted there are some that feel pressured to become bosses and all that and yes they can be unhappy in the long term. Typically this is a result of growing up and wondering what could have been and those people will find any reason they can to blame it on something other than it just being a part of life.
Look, at the end of the day, it's cruel to pressure women into a way of life and then trap them by making divorce taboo and making single motherhood nearly impossible. All "the culture" wants is for women to be able to freely choose whether they want to be mothers or bosses or anything else - and not be forced to drop out of Julliard and abandon their dreams of becoming a ballerina so that they can raise 8 kids with almost no help from the father (just as a random hypothetical)

How can she be "happy", if she is regularly so exhausted, she needs to stay in bed for a whole week and gets an egg apron for her bday?! The facts arent adding up with the propaganda in her case.
We can all agree, that traditional gender norms can lead to happiness for some women but there is no need to lie and gaslight the audience into not believing what Ballerina Farm herself puts out in her videos and interviews.

I would think as much as you’re highly intelligent, that you’d reach out and talk to producers before you air a podcast to say you’ll talk about it if it doesn’t work out or w.e 😭😭 girlllyyy! Call them first lol
