      Yes colace works and less problems in tummy compared to Miralax. But still the surgery center asked me to take Miralax only after Surgery.
      3 x 100mg at night works to have painless Bowel moment the next morning. This can help for temporary relief / delay Anal fissure surgery.

      I have to add, if you can't afford pranicura, the next best thing is Calmoseptine. Believe me, I tried everything, and nothing worked better than Pranicura...but it is expensive and times are tough. The pranicura does go a long way though. I've used it a lot and have hardly put a dent in the pot!

    Here's a trick that some may find helpful. When constipated (eating a normal diet and haven't gone for at least three days), drink a full glass of luke warm water. Set a timer for ten minutes and repeat. Drink a second glass. Set the timer for ten more minutes. Repeat every ten minutes for one hour. Most people will have a BM within an hour or two. Worth a try anyway.

Lots of stress and not the best diet which is probably not helping my issues with constipation. I could go a few weeks and be what is normal for me. But constipation is back and then I end up having to take Miralax mix in packets. I feel need to go frequently when constipation is underway, and have loose stool, (not watery) each time until Miralax finally works. Very frustrating. I took it once today plus 3 Metamucil gummies and lots of water. No change yet. Maybe more normal tomorrow...so frustrating and uncomfortable.

    Dr. Chung. You and I both know that after you eat, what you ate is not getting pooped out 30 minutes later. Unfortunately some people on here will believe you and actually think that is what is happening. The food is signaling the intestines to get things moving and food or waste material that was already there is then pooped out. Or it is signaled from another stimuli such as excitement from mountain biking. I feel that its important not to let people think that. Do you see what I mean? I do like that you included excitement. Whenever I would go shopping I would always have to poop out and about. I hated it because I would have to use a public restroom. But it never failed. Next time you’re constipated think about mountain biking .

    I think I ruined my gut. In 2020 I was diagnosed with a fissure and since my pregnancy 25 years ago I have had hemorrhoids. That he had controlled them well. The doctor recommended Phillips milk of magnesia to soften my stool. but I didn't ask how often. and I started taking it daily. I do po every day up to 3 times, it's not hard and it's not watery either and it's a normal color. I AM VERY AFRAID that my colon will stop working. I have tried to stop taking it but then I can't poo. and the pain is so intense that I think I will die. My diet included vegetables and little meat and a lot of water.

  • @scarpru
    @scarpru ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Um, colace totally kept me going through my hemmorhoidectomy/dentate line polyp removal and 4 skin tag removal surgery. Maybe not perfectly because opioids were so strong, and my pain was through the roof and had to do a couple of enemas and milk of Magnesia. I gotta say, though, I should have switched to Cannabis way sooner. Keeps your pain at bay, your intestines from slowing down like stupid opioids. Not to mention, it is hugely anti-inflammatory! I had so many "coffee grounds" in my poop from my stomach being destroyed by 2400mg of ibuprofen throughout the day. That stopped after switching to cannabis. Everything down there loosened up and relaxed enough where I could begin to finally heal. I can't believe how painful the whole ordeal has been. It makes me sad that doctors' hands are tied, and even though they might know it works, they can't recommend it to patients. I only take drops throughout the day and a pill (WITH PEANUT BUTTER--A MUST) at night. I'm sleeping better, and I'm pooping nearly pain-free now.

    • @scarpru
      @scarpru ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know it's the cannabis that's helping with the pain because I didn't mix opioid and cannabis. I stopped one and continued right into the other. The next 48 hrs were trying. For about 12 hrs the opioid was still in my system and subdued pain but the cannabis takes like 48hrs to build up in your system enough to noticably dull pain. This meant about 24 hrs of very little pain relief until the cannabis started building up. Once it gets up, it's sustainable by drops every 4-6 hours because it wears off fast. The RSO pill is for long term pain relief but it really makes you sleepy so i only take it at night. And you must eat something fatty with it. I make a peanut butter sandwich grilled in butter, lol. If I don't, it does give me a huge stomach ache. If I do, it works great!

    Dr chung after 2 surgeries for anal prolapse, one because the stiches got torn along with a piece of my sigmoid colon.
    I now suffer from Tenesmus (a constant feeling I have to go poo all the time)
    I get physical therapy to help with relaxation of my pelvic floor.
    When I woke up from the 2nd surgery I felt a severe pain in my tailbone, this is caused by my really tight pelvic floor.
    My physical therapist does an ultrasound of my pelvic floor everytime and it is not the little basket it should be, but it is so contracted its flat and 2 inches out of place.
    I had these surgeries in 2018.
    After it took me six months to recover.
    Once I was fully recovered I would walk around or sit even laying down I had this constant feeling of having to go.
    I could not walk more than 5 min before I had to go.
    Sometimes I feel like I have to go and when I go nothing happens.
    I had to start wearing incontinence underwear.
    It was very embarrassing to be shopping and your constantly going to the bathroom.
    I noticed that if I took a percussette the feeling would stop.
    I went back to my pain specialist who I saw for years ɓut I wanted to get of all painmeds and had a nerve stimulator implanted in my back once the pain stopped I detoxed at home and was completely free of medication and feeling great.
    Until the surgeries for the prolapse.
    I wish I would have never had them.
    Because now I am back on the medication and take tablets that counter act the opiate receptors in in the stomach to counter act the slow down of the intestines without affecting the opiate receptors in the brain.
    So the relief stays the same.
    However this doesn't always work and I still get constipated, my pain doctor prescribed lactulose but this causes very painful gas.
    The more days I don't go to the toilet the worse the pain gets.
    The whole situation has been extremely detrimental to my life.
    Do you have any solutions for this and have you come across this in your practice.

    Here is a silly question for you... what does constipation feel like? i.e. Does it always feel like you have to go? One MD told me a person should normally poop 2-3 times a day. But the thing is... I don't feel the need. Could my nutrition/eating and physical activity to have something to do with it? It is usual for me to go 1-2 days without pooping, but sometimes it has taken even longer. And when I finally fell like pooping, it's not difficult/painful usually.
    I'm jus curious, and would like to understand the situation bit better. I am not concerned ut should I be? TIA for taking the time to read this and possibly comment. Luv your vids.

    Dear Dr. Chung
    I have chronic constipation for years. It was happened during depression several years ago, I had a bed rest, reduce activty and eat schedule was disrupted.
    I feel slow stool movement and slow gut emptying (cannot feel hungry). My GP said my gut peristalsis is weaker than average. Do you have any tips to overcome this ? Thank U.

    Dr. Chung I got holes always in my poo it's pretty yucky looking at the poo but this is concerning to me. Can you let me know what's going on with my body. I know I got parasites in my intestines because I been trying to battle this problem. I see some white dots some black dots and red slimy like jelly looking string like things in my poo but I'm concerned about the holes in my stools also. I drink beer everyday about 5 beers it helps my stomach feel better cause it helps keep me regular.

    Could sudden chronic constipation in older people be the result from a serious annus injury 20 or 30 years ago? I’m 70 and have had constipation for the last year or more. Have been taken BP and cholesterol meds for other issues as well for over 30 yrs too.

    Do you remember bright's disease of the kidneys? It was later was better microscopes shown to be about four different diseases. In the case of the doctor who cut off the colace because a few patients said it didn't work, it may be a case of more than one possible cause you have seven roots right here for constipation and like you said colace doesn't treat emotional stuff very well.

    • @yourfriendlyproctologist
      @yourfriendlyproctologist  ปีที่แล้ว

      My point is this "GI doctor" blindly took patients off colace without a proper understanding of each patient. It's not the way I do medicine.

    • @markmcgoveran6811
      @markmcgoveran6811 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yourfriendlyproctologist I agree that's a very good point. There's a whole lot of math involved when you test something in the real world. I consider diarrhea a symptom not a disease. I consider constipation a symptom not a disease. You might be able to treat the symptom effectively regardless of the disease. It's a very profitable approach to medicine and very popular in the capitalist system. I have a lot of digestive problems and I did go and get a set time put in an abscess on my anus. Most of the problems with my digestive system I sincerely believe are caused from neurological damage from substance use. I can't find anybody who would accept my theory of the etiology. So I just treat myself.

    Hi Dr. Chung, I was just thinking, this is gonna be a weird question, what do you think about inserting like 1-2 oz of water (drinking or alkaline water) inside the anus before sleeping to make the tip of the poop Softer??? I've never tried it but I wonder if it's okay to do so. 🤔🤔🤔

      I have/had 3 stage 2 hemroids which where/are internal. I've used a couple solutions which have helped. It took a couple months but I'm not suffering anymore at all hence referring to my hemroid as if I have them or dont have them. I've done a couple changes but I do believe a diet change makes a huge difference as well as some other solutions there was no need for any surgery at least for now.
