I found that the best poop softener is the kefir (I think the homemade is a bit better than the one of them supermarket) but both work ok. I blocked from my diet: natural rice, green bananas (that are not sweet enough) psyllium husk (plantago) flax seed fiber… I’m still doubtful if I should cut papaya from my diet ( I’ve been eating it with the other ingredients I am trying to avoid) I am getting suspicious it could be helping to my ROCK poop 🙈 my proctologist told me to take a spoon of olive oil each morning so water can stay more time in the colon or something like that. I’ve been drinking more water and orange juice, kiwis and coffee with milk before I eat anything in the morning. Eating big plumps could help but… I think they could be a bit dangerous for someone that is high in glucose.

Yes. I had a hysterectomy in Oct 2020. Prior to that I barely ate fiber. I started having problems with BM. Got religious about getting enough fiber. They recommended 35 mg a day. Usually got to 20-25. My stomach issues are worse than they ever have been. I did have some issues before surgery, but yes so much worse now. The gas yesterday was horrible. I even increased slowly. Psyllium makes it worse. Flax seems to be better but I don’t know. I feel like I’ve been a walking experimenting with diet, etc. so desperate. I am so bloated. I have lost weight, but I look 5 months pregnant. Never knew has pains could be so painful. And the hemms and fissure omg. So bad. So with fiber even if I’m drinking enough water, can it result in incomplete emptying?

You're spot on with the fiber debate. I suffer from stage 2 internal hemorrhoids. My proctologist suggested that I increase my fiber intake. I got it up to 25g of fiber per day and my rear was hurting so bad that I can't sit in a chair now. I noticed that it made me more constipated than before. Then I had a hard beginning and a loose tail. Then I reduced the fiber and had a stool with a sweet potato fiber and it felt like my internal hemorrhoids were getting lacerated after every release. Fiber swelled my hemorrhoids and made it way worse than before.

Thank you doctor. finally a doctor speaking the truth. This guy is absolutely correct. Because of the pain meds I take. I’ve been having constipation for years. Every time I see a doctor, they say take more fiber, and when I tell them, that’s the worst thing I should do. They look at me like I’m an idiot. Finally, I see a doctor telling the truth. I am stunned that I a janitor am actually smarter than most doctors out there. Also, he’s right about bulking up. Sometimes my stool is so large the anus stretches and it comes out, covered in blood. I am a mostly plant based eater with a primary focus on eating freshly prepared vegetables and non-refined starches like rice and potatoes. I eat a lot of fiber everyday and I still have issues with my bottom end. I would say that 2 things contribute most to my constipation, gas and bloating. 1- not chewing my food well. 2-eating lots of cruciferous vegetables in any given day.

Taking a fiber supplement won't help you if you eat constipating foods. It's better to eat foods that are high in fiber. I've also found that it's best for the fiber to be wet, such as with oatmeal or fresh fruit, not dry like cereal. If you eat cereal then drink lots of juice or eat jello with it. For snacks during the day I eat granola bars and fruit snacks. Gelatin is a natural laxative.

Here in europe when doctors are talking about "eat fiber", they are relating to "eat more vegetables" and "have a fiber rich diet". Is this still the same for you Dr. Chung? Fiber suppliments is not common here as far as i know. And eating more vegetables makes stool always kind of "perfect". All the best and thank you very much for your videos.

Finally someone is saying this. I had to learn it the hard way after listening to so many doctors 😭 they don't even ask how is my stool, how often I have it, what is like .... They hear a fissure or hemoroids and they say fiber and water. 🤦🏼 I eat too much fiber just from my diet and my doctors didn't check my diet... They just said add more fiber supplement. It was so bad for me and made me worse 🤕

I have had slow motions or constipation my entire life. Now at the age of 62 trying to heal a 4 year old fissure I have finally worked out that THE bad thing for me is bread! (After red meat, alcohol, dehydration, coconut & tomatoes) Been eating wholemeal for 30+ years. It gives me a large and firm stool. Always had sandwiches for lunch at work! Psyllium didn't work for me. Some oat cereal with nuts, banana & yoghurt is my start to the day. Still trying to work the rest out to get regular. I have comet poo at the moment! I always hotch from side to side to coax it out & avoid a relapse caused by pushing. I drink water during the night, helped a bit but not 100%.

Honestly, when your GI system is working well, it's a good day, and when it isn't, you're miserable. I do find that just the right amount of fiber is the answer, and it can take a bit to find that place. So, it's not for constant use - at least not in my case. I keep getting comet poops. With very long tails. I had used to experiment with fiber before it started, because of semi-hard greasy poops that were almost impossible to pass. Wheat fiber made my stools WIDE. Rye fiber - mixed results, usually softer, but it had these sharp texture... And finally ground flaxseed - the best results, but after some time, it got worse, so I dropped it. Now, I get comet poops even though my fiber intake isn't high, only from dinner vegies. I don't even eat rye bread I loved so much, because of that sharp texture it was giving me. So I eat the wheat one. I don't think gluten is the cause, as I have never had any issues with it, and days I don't eat it, it doesn't get better.
The only thing that slightly helped me was string beans, especially in a soup. But can't eat it everyday. Honestly, it's so complicated, I'm not sure what to eat anymore. Not easy to test what food is good/bad if I poo every 3 days. Big amount of soft poo after the initial (semi) hard beginning. And what's funny, sometimes I get a round two 8-10h later after I sleep. Then I'm done for another 3 days. I don't feel the urge to poo everyday like I used to. Sometimes, I feel maybe it's time, but... it's not. And next day I don't feel anything, like it moved back or something lol. Then after 3 days, I get this big urge that I need to rush to get rid of this big load.
Maybe lack of exercise is the cause, used to be very active pre covid era. But now, it's not that easy to motivate myself with hem flareups :( Got pretty painful one lately, not even sure why, as the last poo was pretty soft, and it didn't take long. So like, fiber bad, fighting for good soft stools - bad anyway as I got the flareup, ugh it's so annoying.

@@banderas2000 I stop taking fiber supplements and eating high fiber foods. I think I found out why I’ve been having digestive issues. My stomach does not make enough acid to break down the food properly. I started taking apple cider vinegar every night before bed. It helps with my digestive issues and put back good gut bacteria to help break down foods. My stool are soft and smooth now without taking fiber supplements. I’m suffering from a chronic fissure. It heals at times but is unable to fully heal due to the damaged tissue. It’s something I’ve learn to live with now at my age. I refuse to have surgery. I feel at my age, it’ll make things worse.

Been eating wholemeal for 30+ years. It gives me a large and firm stool. Always had sandwiches for lunch at work & evening snacks! Psyllium didn't work for me.

I wish someone had told me this a few months ago when my haemorrhoids went crazy and I started experience anal pain and inflammation so bad I couldn't sit. I guess you can have too much of anything! My diet has been plant based (mostly raw) with a few animal products here and there for a few years now. I accidentally came across the low fiber / low residue diet published by the NHS in the UK and in a couple of days all my discomfort and pain went away after months of suffering. Not to mention that it's nice to only go to the loo once per day instead of 2-3 times and not feel like a balloon all the time

15 - 20 grams of chicory inulin daily helps quite a bit.
Actually there are 2 types of fiber, inulin and psyllium. First one is water - soluble and is a prebiotic, it feeds the good bacteria in intestines and psyllium is the one that needs water to become a soft gel. Or maybe I am not right? Anyways, inulin seems working for me.

I've had constipation all my life, off and on, since age 4. My mother used to have to give me Fletcher's Castoria (anyone remember that?) As I'm older, it's worse. My doctor prescribed Linzess. It helps but it's not always best. I don't know if I should drink more with it. I don't know how it works, and I really don't want to, but it sometimes needs help from Dulcolax. I'm wondering if this is harmful? All I can say is that it's a relief to NOT have pain down there from straining, and various other things over the years to help out. I used to take milk of magnesia and finally got to the point I could hardly get it down. I have had hemorrhoid problems off and on since I was a teen. I had a colonoscopy last May and the doctor said everything was fine. The time before he sad I had small hemorrhoids near the outer part. I wanted to say tell me something I don't know... I like your channel. Just found it today.

This!!! Thank you Dr Chung! 🥺🥲 this has been my concern…
My diet consist of mostly veggies / leafy green (i love greens so much), some fish and egg, a very little meat and i barely eat carbs.. I drink 2-2.5L water a day.. and i’ve been having hemoroid since teenager..
My doc told me to take more fiber.. 🥲 although that’s already most of the things i eat.. i’m bloated daily, but not farting often, so imagine the tightness i feel in my tummy.. not pooping daily so my poop is the Bristol no 1 a dark pebbles or Bristol no 2 a huge clump.. and sometimes a COMET POOP like you describe..
Now i’m finally enlighten thanks to YOU, i’ve been eating TOO MUCH fiber..
I just had laser hemoroid procedure for grade 4 hemoroid, it’s day 6 post op and doc told me to eat like normal and eat my fiber.. i didnt poop for 5 days after the procedure, and been eating porridge + chopped veggies / meat + juice (hospital meals) and they gave me Lactulose at night.. didnt help..
and finally i POOPED day 5 at night… a nightmare a hard one Bristol no 2…. And i had blood with my poop.. day 6 at night (today) it got worst, the water in the closet turned all red from blood i barely able to see my Bristol no 1… i’ve checked the bleeding has finally stopped…. But now i’m anxious and scared if the bleeding gonna get worse, since i ate “normal” fiber today as my doc’s recommendation… 😱😭
I told the doc, i ate tons of veggies.. doc was not convinced and said, eat more.. it’s always good to have MORE fiber.. 😭😭 if only you can educate doctors here about the fiber problem…

I agree with this. I went on a diet to lose weight and was eating a large bowl of oats every other day and also plenty of baked beans. It made my stools so hard to pass that eventually I ended up with an anal fissure which was extremely painful. So for fiber yes have a little with plenty of water now and again but not big quantities.

I was prescribed the no. 1 ointment your recommend, but not the no. 2 drug you also recommended. You stated that you rarely see a fissure heal without the addition of the no. 2 drug. Is my Doctor missing a trick here? Or is it that my fissure is not that bad and the no. 1 drug is enough to clear the issue? You seemed emphatic about the no. 2 drug in your video.

Oh god yes the hard/large stool followed by soft end with remnants difficult to pass (and sometimes clean - horrible). I think I overdosed on fiber 7g psyllium 3x day stacked on top of food sources. Hell. The psyllium I was already taking but added more after MD's prescription. I was also taking at night right before bed. I really want to provide this feedback as I went through hell. Now I'm trying to moderate... Obviously all white flour and sugar and meat and cheese doesn't work also!
