Thanks for this. There is very little info about these docks. I spent many days trying to get a WD19S to work reliably with a Precision 7560. I even had a Dell tech investigate, he couldn't fix the problem even after a swap to a brand new motherboard (under warranty). In the end all he could suggest was a WD19DC, which comes with a 240w PSU instead of 180w for the WD19S. A quarter of a kilowatt for a laptop! The WD19DC didn't work at first, even after FW and driver updates. The BIOS kept complaining that the dock was underpowered and that it didn't support 2 docks connected simultaneously (there was only ever the 19DC - I gave up on the 19S months ago). Ethernet wouldn't connect through the dock at all. Finally I cleared the old logs from the BIOS, and since that it has all worked perfectly! Bonkers! It's a bit worrying that after all this, most of the time only one of the dual-connector LED's is lit, which shows only one is charging at up to 130w, exactly the same as the WD19S did when it momentarily worked. But it's normal behaviour: as far as I can work out, 2 LED's only appear when the load demands it. The one that's lit seems to be random. It starts with both lit, then turns off one. One other thing: I have 2 x yellow lights on the dock ethernet port, which I think you said = 100mbs. The other end of the cable is plugged into a Netgear hub that shows the link running at 1gbps. I too miss the tray-type dock I had with my old Precision M4500. Wires sticking out the side is a horrible kludge, and those fragile USB-C connectors are soldered direct to the Precision motherboard - no easily-serviceable sub assembly :(
dude dell needs to send you free docks.. i seriously had zero expectation of learning anything but learned a few things from you.. thanks man.. if anyone from dell is here... dude where the hell is your list of docks? or if anyone knows where i can find a complete list of dell docks..
Just purchased this bad boy today. I think it a a little overkill for what I need but I’d rather have too much than not enough. Two 27 inch monitors running at 1080p and my dell laptop - three screens in total for software Development so I purchased this docking station mainly for the extra USB slots plus display ports
Wow! One of the most comprehensive I.T. info videos I've seen. How does the docking station transmit data from the ethernet connection? Through WiFi or USB-C? Thank you!
I connected my 5515 to the WD19DC with dual external monitors but I continue to get a duplicate screen when I have to manually detect every time. How can I remedy this?
There’s only 3 USB-A Ports, can you recommend a good USB Hub that works great with this? ...And also which port would be the best port to plug the Hub into? Plug it into the front USB-A Port or plug it into one of the Thunderbolt connections?
I have a Dell laptop Latitude 5530 and bought a Dell WD19S docking station and two Dell monitors SE2722H. I connected one monitor to the HDMI port of the docking station and the other monitor to the Display Port of the Docking station using a Dell Display to HDMI converter. The only monitor that works with the laptop display is the one connected to the HDMI port of the Docking station, while the other monitor that is connected to the Display port doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
I ran it to the same issue at work. You absolutely cannot use the converter. My Dell IT guy said that you have to be on two separate “channels” cable types, literally gong through the Docking Station. Meaning, connect one (HDMI Monitor to the HDMI WD19 Docking Station) and the second monitor has to be on a (DP/Display Port) to DP/Display Port cable. *The explanation is that the two HDMI cable (to include the one with the “converter” are trying to use the same”channel” or the same physical wire, if that makes sense. I am using two truly separate cables (different types as described above) and both monitors are working independently from each other as well as my Laptop. So, I now have three separate screen displays and working as they should. Hope this helps…
Thanks, I’m already using it with MacBook but these dock cables are a little bit wider than MacBook slots which is pretty sad for me 😀 I have to plug just one of them and use original Apple cable for power delivery 😀
Thanks for sharing this wonderful information. May I ask thing please as I have Dell precision 3541 having one USB c port that charge the laptop. Should it be fine if I unplugged my laptop charger as the laptop is charing wich dock or if I plugin in laptop charger with dock charging does it cause any harm? Thank You.
When i disconnect my laptop from the WD19DCS and then use the laptop there is no cursor/mouse. i have to restart the laptop to get it back?? Why would this be?
Hello there, Sir! My monitors have HDMI ports and not Display Ports. If I buy an HDMI-DP cable, or use an adapter on my HDMI cable which transforms one end to a Display Port, and I use it this way, should it interfere with anything? Would it still charge my laptop and share the video? Or do I have to change to monitors with Display Ports? Thank you in advance!
Hello, thanks for this video! I would like to know if I can using the display port type-c for connecting my monitor using its usb type-c for pass through video and data: data becouse my monitor has 2 usb type-a. Thank you
You can't do that. The dock integrates with the laptop hardware, BIOS and OS. If you only use one connector, the second is available only for charging a phone etc.
Hi i am in the market for a Dell WD19 ( not WD19DC) or a WD19TB. What would be the best place to purchase this in South Africa? And is it worth looking at the older WD15?
Hi, i have a 15 as well, i should do a video to compare these two. Personally i dont like the WD19 or the 15 but they do work. I purchase directly from Dell from the organisation i work for. Or you could purchase from Drive Control www.drivecontrol.co.za/ Of there are other places that sell Dell products. I think the warranty is with Dell not the reseller.
@@ecologicaltime Hi! Thanks for the review, very good. I am struggling to find somewhere to buy the WD19DC please could you let me know how you bought from Dell in SA otherwise I will call Drive control? Many thanks
Hi Thanks for the very informative video. I have a question though, may be you can help. I have an Alienware M17 R2 gaming laptop and a Dell D6000 universal Dock station; right now I'm not getting any power to my Laptop through the Dock, I have to connect the actual power supply to the laptop while connected to the Dock so I can use the ports in it. Dell support is telling me I can use the WD19DC dock with my laptop and it will provide power to it, but looking at your video, looks like this dock has 2 USB-C cables, my laptop only has 1 USB-c port....my question is, in order to supply power to my Alienware laptop do I need to connect both USB-C connectors at once? In other words, is this Dock compatible power-wise with my Alienware? Thanks.
you can get power charging via the USB C cable but for full power transfer you need two USB C's. One USB i think is capped at 90W so check the power output of your current charger and see if its lower than 90W, if it is then this dock should work.
@@ecologicaltime My Dell 7480 has a dead battery and I noticed that when using one USB C, I still have to connect the power plug directly to laptop as well. Otherwise the moment I remove it, Laptop powers off. So just wondering if with just one, it is charging the battery, plus using it to then run the laptop ? I will be shortly switching to a new 5400 laptop to get around this old laptop dead battery problem. Your review was very helpfull. And you have some insane 4 monitor setup !!

what is the difference between WD19DCS and WD19DC ?
DCS has an additional 3.5mm stereo jack for sound output, DC only does sound over USB.
So I'm guessing this won't work with other laptops, just DELL ?
