    To be honest, yours and modded warfares videos are both great. If I want to RGH 3 a 360, I use this video to pick up any information I missed whereas modded warfares video is short and straight to the point. You’re both great!

    I don't know how often you get this, but I've watched your videos since about 2014. We've actually talked briefly before, funny enough. Still after all these years, you make good stuff for people to watch. Always very informative and make it very user friendly. You've always been very kind to me, and I love to see you still thriving today.
    Keep going strong, my friend. :))

    You are the person that inspired me to do RGH on xboxes, I did couple of Trinity consoles using your guide and RGH 3 couple of Falcons. I do feel proud of myself that I was able to do it before you did the tutorial, but I am still very grateful for your work. Btw for removing old thermal paste I found naphta (lighter fluid) to be the best, it dissolves it in no time. Just remember to flush it with some isopropyl alcohol as naphta stinks a bit. Thanks again for your work man, cheers!

    I've done few 360 elite (jasper V2) rgh3 and yes, these have a bit inconsistent boot time (from instant boot to few sec, sometimes more than 10sec.)
    Sometimes, they won't glitch at all, but it's really rare, and you just have to turn it off and turn it on again.
    However, all of my 360 are at my friend's home, they are running at least once a week, and they never let us down !
    I understand what you said, but with my small experience, I still recommend rgh3 on phat system if you want to enjoy good games for the cheapest price !
    Keep it up !

      @@MrMario2011 I agree with you, I actually read the comments ! Just want to share my (small) experience ☺️
      On the first rgh I've done (jasper V2)
      ,I noticed that boot times are the most inconsistent, and I think it's related to the fact that I did put too long wires. On the phat consoles that I did rgh3 more recently, I put the shortest possible wire, and it did improve boot times, or at least the consistency. (Instant boot 30% of the time, and less than 10sec boot 65% of the time. Still got more than 10sec boot once a while, but it's not a big deal)
      I still use my first rgh frequently (my main system), with too long wires, and it still works very well !

      @@PhilThrahuile FWIW the only times I've had iffy RGH3 operation was on a 2008 Falcon that had two bad blocks of which one was in the 1xx region (the other was located at 2BD). Apparently it's a bit sensitive if it's the 0x1xx region when it comes to bad blocks...it did fix itself over time of usage, so probably just NAND rot?

    I followed this guide extensively (Watched maybe 6-8 times) and so thought I would give my experience.
    I first tried to RGH 3 a Ebay Jasper 16mb elite, but it was too unreliable. The RGH would be working for one moment, then after turning the console off it would not, or only glitch once every 20+ tries. I re-made and re-soldered the wires probably up to 10+ times before the Xbox stopped working (During boot it gives me 1 solid green light and no video).
    I think the issues were due to the dodgy Xbox I received from Ebay. The external case was in pretty poor condition, the internals showed signs of liquid damage and had been opened before. One oddity I noticed while troubleshooting the RGH to try and make it reliable was that it would RROD if I brushed or touched the heatsink by a fraction - usually a sign of static electricity causing issues but I made sure I was grounded so not sure what it was.
    I then tried it on a Jasper 512mb from a local pawn store. It still had the warranty sticker sealed. After opening - it looked like it was never used - I could only find a very small amount of dust on the fan and that was it. With this Xbox I was successful with achieving a reliable RGH. At first it wouldn't work, until I tried 10Mhz instead of 27Mhz and it has booted successfully ever since (Boot times range from instant to 30 seconds).
    I have now transplanted the Jasper 512mb in my Halo 3 edition Xbox and I am a happy man.
    I think having an Xbox that was in much better condition got me over the line.
    Thank-you for the detailed video. I learned how to solder from this project. I look forward to doing more mods in the future.

    Here's a tip for remembering the orientation of the diode inside your shrinkwrapped wire. Just use another color of wire on that end. I used a white wire on the anode side and a black wire on the cathode side. Easy peasy to remember which end to hook up to POST1/FT6U7.

    Huge props to your guide, now I'm a proud owner of both a Kronos RGH3 Elite unit and a custom-cobbled-together MS serviced Falcon that's RGH3'd. Kronos was done locally, the Falcon I did it myself.
    Bought a Pico, worked straight out of the first try with 27MHz. Shell is made out of a Elite Falcon that had a missing faceplate, and a scrapped (broke traces when removing X-Clamps >.

    • @NSHG
      @NSHG ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrMario2011 I did mine on 27 too.
      I suspect the Kronos (which isn't my work, it was done before I got hold of a USB-C RPi Pico to use as a flasher) was done on 10 MHz, which MIGHT be spotty? It sometimes sits at a black screen, though I just power cycle it whenever that happens and it boots up right away.
      Also check this out, I ran DashLaunch to set up Aurora as default boot dash and the console info is just funny - board indeed shows up as Falcon, yet the flash identifies itself as Trinity 🤣👍 How does that even happen?

    • @NSHG
      @NSHG ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And we have another winner! An April 2009 datecode 16MB Jasper successfully RGH3'd.
      Same 27MHz setting. This one must've been a shell swap of a modded elite (or at the very least the HDD was from a modded unit) as upon RGH-ing I was instantly greeted with Freestyle instead of the standard 360 dash, for whatever reason :D
      Off to Aurora it'll go since it's pretty void as is.

The second Xbox I bought was a 360 elite Jasper. I used the Pico Flasher and faced the Problem that it would read the nand but they would not be the same, wrong header or it would automatically select RGH 2 even though it was a stock console. For those who have similar problems and soldered everything perfectly, in my case the cables which I bought were the Problem. After I change every kabel to a thicker one it started working. I'd leave it sit about 30 seconds before powering off then powering back on repeatedly until it started. I keep these in my closet for the time being.
    EDIT: Also want to mention, I use lighter fluid for thermal paste. It works wonders. drench piece of a paper towel, set it there about 10 seconds then start wiping. Of course follow up with a bit of alcohol to remove the greasy oil residue.

      It seems it's a hit & miss. I've done it on my Falcon 1 year ago, and played with it basically every day for like 10 months. Sometimes it couldn't boot or booted "not properly" and froze ingame. But if I was fast enough, it could be rebooted in Aurora. The boot times are okay I guess, at least for me. Recently redone the wiring, thanks to the new alternative SMC_PLL solder point, which made this wire much shorter. And it looks like the freezes are less likely to happen.
      But you're right, RGH1.2 is the way to go for reliability/stability. RGH3 is a gamble on phats and I recommend only doing to your own console.

    Sick guide. Is it normal for glitching to take 6 seconds? It’s damn near instant to xell but takes 6 seconds to start the splash on retail. Is that just the nature of RGH 3 on Phat systems? Thanks

The Falcon/Jaspers with RGH3 don't do well with glitches and it's a matter of luck if the system runs well. Until now I had 1 Jasper 16mb which ran 100% with it. I won't do it again.
