@@arxs8like a 6 or 7. There’s just a lot of places u can screw up, and u could do everything correctly but depending on ur model it might not even work. Slims boot more reliably tho
Your tutorials are a life saver. There's not a lot of hand holding in the 360 modding community. Its kept me out of the game for quite some time, but your videos have always been there to try and bridge the gap.
There's a small, but very important mistake in this tutorial, but everyone with a decent brain will probably notice: @43:07 you tell the viewer to disconnect the nand programmer (in my case it was the Pi Pico) from "the console itself", which will end up not working. I'm sure you were trying to say, "Disconnect it from the pc.", which is what I did and it did indeed work and boot into Xell. If you disconnect (or in my case would've had to unsolder) it from the console, it probably will end up not booting at all. It's also a better idea to reattach the cpu cooler before soldering the nand programmer wires onto the console, so that you don't risk for them to fall off in the process. Other than that this is an excellent tutorial, thank you very much for that!
Not really an error. With the purpose made 360 NAND flashers, the wires go to a connector so you can disconnect the console from the flasher. Obviously you can also just disconnect it from the PC too. With the Pico the wires are soldered to it, so yes you would just disconnect it from the PC.
I think it's really great that you take the time to credit those who developed this method. It really shows your integrity and I think it's just all around a great thing to do. @@MrMario2011 I just tried this and now my Xbox doesn’t boot up at all just a green light for like 1-2 seconds then red light the fan shuts down and the system doesn’t boot… pretty sure I bricked it😂 anyways any idea where I went wrong? What to check? What to do? I followed the video step by step and got all the way to the point where you unplug the xflasher from the console to get the cpu key from xell… Xell never popped up and I never was able to get the cpu key so what do I do now? I’m not about to give up when I’ve come this far…
@@MrMario2011 I got so lucky! I accidentally bridged like 4 of the points from post and was able to unbridge them, I wrote the ECC and next thing I know, Xell was on screen. Although I did accidentally plug the cooling fan into where the dvd drive goes to, I cooked the fan but did I do anything to the motherboard?
@@yngproduct6617late, but xell may not have been flashed properly since the Xbox will start giving red light if the cables are soldered but it's running stock firmware
Superb tutorial, many thanks. Flashing using pi pico worked. In JRunner some buttons have been renamed. For example: Create ECC -> Create XeLL or Write ECC -> Write XeLL. But the button placement is still the same.
If you are getting “Header is Wrong” using the PicoFlasher and maybe other flashers… it’s because your wires from the flasher to the Xbox are to LONG. I made this mistake, my wires were around 20inches long and I was get this error. They are now around 6-9 inches long and it works perfectly fine now. Please pass this along, that the NAND wires need to be short…. Maybe at most 10 inches long. P.S. Thank you for sharing this video with us all.
Awesome tutorial, I'm going to use it on my Trinity! Just a few suggestions to improve your disassembly tutorial: at 10:50 don't force the tabs, just grab a very thin/pointy screwdriver and carefully disengage the tabs, it takes a little patience but it works great, I used a magnifying glass to take a peak at the tabs and figure out the best angle. At 14:05, just press the empty space above the XBOX 360 seal that's joining both covers, it will push the tab away and release the cover, no poking hole needed. I didn't go any further because I just wanted to check if I had a Trinity board, which I do because both J2C1 and J2C3 headers are parallel to each other.
I have another suggestion. If your console is currently RGH2 (or 1.2) and still boots (and you haven't already removed your glitch chip), then you can convert it to RGH3 it without soldering in a NAND Flasher again! Here's how... 1. If you still have still have your old NAND dumps from when you RGH2'ed it, then you can skip 1.1 and 1.2. 1.1 If you need NAND dumps, you can boot up your 360 and get Simple 360 NAND Flasher 1.4b and you can use it to dump your NAND. 1.2 Then you can copy your dumps to a flash drive from Aurora/XEXMenu/FSD. 2. Load up you NAND dumps (either the ones you still kept from when you RGH2'ed or the ones you just dumped) into J-Runner. 3. Then you can select RGH3 and Create XeBuild Image. 4. Then rather than soldering the NAND Flasher (which is time consuming and finnicky), you can rename your newly-created XeBuild image to updflash.bin and copy it to your flash drive. 5. Then turn your console off and plug the flash drive in. Then press the eject button to boot into Xell and wait. 6. It should automatically start flashing the RGH3 updflash.bin, and once it's done you can turn your 360 off. 7. Do *NOT* turn it back on until you've soldered the 2 wires (POST & PLL) and have completely desoldered and removed your old (and now unnecessary) glitch chip. *Now that that's done you can turn it on and it should boot instantly every time!*
For those who are RGH'ing for the first time, after flashing ECC, you don't have to use the NAND flasher to flash the Xebuild image! Here's how: * Flash ECC, boot into Xell and grab the CPU Key, then you can create your RGH3 Xebuild image. * Then find it and rename it to updflash.bin, and copy it to the root of your flash drive (must be FAT32 if I remember correctly) * Then turn your console off, plug the flash drive in and boot Xell again and wait. * It should automatically start flashing the NAND with the new RGH3 updflash.bin. Once it's done you can turn off you console, unplug the flash drive and boot it and your RGH3 should be a success! Why would you wanna do it this way rather than flashing all 16/64/256MB using the NAND flasher? * Well Xell is very small (50 blocks), so when you flashed ECC it didn't take long, however depending on your NAND size and speed of your flasher, writing the XeBuild image will take from 4 - 20 minutes. Writing it inside Xell however should take less than a minute. * Also, if you aren't 100% confident in your soldering, then doing it this way means you don't have to worry about a wire coming loose during that 4-20 minute period and corrupting your NAND. * The nice part is that you can always do this, even while the console is put back together. So if there's a new dashboard or RGH method that requires you to flash your NAND again, you don't have to worry about soldering in that NAND flasher again.

@@razmann4k Well I did say "I didn't go any further because I just wanted to check if I had a Trinity board" which means I didn't watch the rest of the video, just the hardware requirements part and the disassembly part. I bought a Pico to use with the GameCube, but I'll use it with the Trinity first, then it will find permanent residence inside the GameCube :)
My girlfriend got me a trinity and xflasher for Christmas just so I could try this. I stayed up all night soldering and flashing and it WORKS!!! 😁😁😁 you're the king Mr.Mario! Thanks for this awesome video 👍
Just wanted to comment and say thanks for a superb tutorial. FYI to anyone that cares, it is possibly to scrape the PLL_Bypass without a microscope or magnifying glass. I did it! But that might be dumb luck, it is incredibly small in person. Patience and careful movement help. A few notes for anyone else who might hit some of the same stumbling blocks as I did: - the COM port thing with the PicoFlasher isn’t terribly reliable (at least on Windows 11) but rebooting and opening J-Runner as admin seems to get it to function every time - You don’t need to desolder the Pi when you boot Xell for the first time, just make sure it’s disconnected from your computer (again, might need to reboot the PC afterwards when you flash the NAND) - I started with a 3k resistor and that wasn’t doing it for me and I had to switch it out for a 10k which works flawlessly. Might have been my bad soldering, maybe the resistance does matter. Either way, something worth troubleshooting

bought all my supplies a few days ago and over the course of using both this tutorial and the rgh3 website i was able to get all the necessary soldering and wiring done and mod the console on my first go round, thank you for your high quality tutorials for this sort of thing

Mr Mario, I want to thank you for making this video. I am someone who has not had a lot of experience modding. In fact, some years back I tried to do one of these mods with a glitch chip and it didn't go well. I didn't have the confidence to fix the trace that I messed up. I sent the system out to get fixed and modded. I don't think I'll have to do that again. I have a little bit more experience now fixing traces so it left me feeling more confident. Of course having one of those magnifying headsets helped quite a bit. Especially with the hardest part of connecting the two wires in the back. I use a craft knife and a brand new blade and I was able to knock it out in no time. I don't have a steady hand, but I was like a surgeon. I followed everything step by step. Ironically, as soon as I opened up my bag of resistors I found the 10K resistors too. I also had the same wrapping wire you had, and shrink wrap. So it made the installation a breeze. You were a great help and thank you again.
I have 0 experience soldering, I picked up 2 trinity consoles and 2 jaspers for £50, got myself all the stuff I needed, a £15 soldering iron and got straight to work, first try... successful! I put the console back together and boom... didn't boot. Took it apart and I snagged a wire when I rebuilt it. Second attempt today, resoldered all the wires, it's working perfectly! For someone with 0 experience and just a lot of determination, I'd recommend giving this a go if you're confident enough, the feeling at the end when it's all successful is amazing!
Glad it worked for you! Although I don't recommend this so I'm going against the grain. I had your same confidence and determination, which killed several consoles when I first learned how to solder.
A quick thank you again, in scenes with so many different spurces of information your videos have been an excellent resource. Great quality guides that are easy to follow and aren't overwhelming yet still pack a lot of information. You are doing great work for the console modding scenes.
Managed to do this successfully on my trinity a few days ago as a first timer. I found the PLL_BYPASS surprisingly okay, I was slow and careful, constantly cleaning it and seeing progress. A magnifying glass or a good close-up camera is really helpful to see what you’re doing. I found the NAND soldering the most challenging because the ends of the Dupont wires I used with my Raspberry Pico were clunky and awkward to solder to the motherboard. I had to re-solder the connections a few times in order for J-Runner to detect the console.
If you planned on doing a second console, I would recommend some breadboard jumper wires. I did this and it was super simple. You can get male to male so each end is a solid metal peg you can easily solder, or you have male on one end for the console and cut and solder the end for the pi. Congrats on your success!

I used a standard pin header to which I soldered small long wires (about 15cm). I had my pi pico plugged in a breadboard. The pin header was then also plugged into the breadboard. No additional jumper wires are needed. The bare wires now need to be soldered to the NAND and the flashing can start. This way the header can be reused by desoldering the wires from the NAND when everything is finished.
Successfully RGH3'd my 360!!!!!! Thanks a ton for all your guides, this was the most in depth console mod I've done so far and you made it easy to navigate.
The release of RGH3 motivated me to finally dust off my old Resident Evil 5 Jasper and get it modded. I haven't had so much fun with my 360 in a while! It gave a second life to a console with a temperamental disc drive that pretty much was useless. Boot times are often less than 10 seconds so I'm happy.
Awesome! I've performed it only on one phat that I have, didn't have much value assigned to it so it was a good guinea pig to try RGH3 on. Pleasantly surprised with it, Falcon board working well and boot times average about 7 or 8 seconds.

Bro thanks so much to put everything together. I did this back in the day but now it broke and I completely out of clue of what I did or how I did it. It was fun I spent more time hacking the system than actually playing the games. It was the toughest system I have modded so far.

Dude, what a ride! Thanks for your video, you can not imagine how I sweated and shook with my Xbox while following along. The PLL soldering point was wild and of all things the yellow wire from the NAND would not hold with me at all. I was in sheer despair until I found out that yellow is only ground and I can solder it literally anywhere else. And despite all that, miracles happened, the Picoflasher and J-Runner kicked in and I still can't believe it, I have a RGH-Xbox! Hopefully I don't ruin it while desoldering and assembling! Haha. Thanks for your great video, it really helped me extremely!

@@550sng8 You could solder the wire to the shielding of the usb ports or the AV port for example. That's what I did. Good luck and don't give up, you're almost there buddy!
Small bit of advice when you have the motherboard exposed, look for any blown or domed capacitors. They're are two main types of electrolytic capacitors on the board and the ones we're looking at are the ones above the white sticker at 50:00 If you have any that look like they're bulging or rounded at the top then they're most likely failing, any that are burst, broken, or leaking are definitely dead. While not crucial to the function of the system they can cause issues with it and should probably be swapped with new ones. Good news is they're dirt cheap, easy to find, and easy to swap out using the soldering tips described in this video, just make sure the polarity is the same as the old ones (it's marked on the side of the capacitor).
Everything I've read a 3k-5k resistor was the recommended. I use a 3.3k myself on a few different Trinitys and they worked out great. 22k for Falcon/Jasper (plus a diode) and 1k for Coronas.
I really appreciate these videos man... Thanks to you I was able to do this to both my Jasper and my cousin's Trinity systems. If not for your high depth tutorials, I would have never been able to pull this off.
I dunno how often it's mentioned, but people should put a disclaimer about how one routes their wires and why. I wasn't paying too much attention to how I placed them, and it caused my Xbox to constantly free on Aurora menu. I opened up my Xbox to double check and decided to move some wires because I figured there was some noise being introduced. I also redid my solder points and now my Xbox is not freezing anymore. Whereas it used to freeze consistently after a few minutes.
Great tutorial... I have done two Trinity RGH3 based on this. I have lots of experience with OG Xbox (Xtender from leaked code done very first evening actually was my first). However, this RGH3 requires some intermediate to advanced soldering skills. I purchased an inexpensive digital Microscope in order to do things like this, and I cannot imagine how it could be done without one (maybe with magnifier glasses) - wow I wish I would have had this technology 20+ years ago!!! The footage in video makes it appear much larger and easier to do than it is in real life, and I just don't see how someone can go in with a cheap soldering iron and perform the mod without a magnifier - especially PLL_BYPASS. Maybe it is my old eyes, but even with reading glasses I would not do. For those who managed to do this mod with naked eye, I applaud them!
You know? I was talking to someone about this just yesterday who did tons of PS2 chip installs. He could do those with no magnification, but age hit him and he can't see those points very well anymore with the naked eye. We talked about how it would have been so awesome to have digital microscopes back then.
I got my PS3 40GB in August of 08 from Blockbuster on a promotion they were running. The experience back then was SO bad in the early years that I leaped for an Xbox 360 Elite in March of 2010 and never looked back. MODIFIED though, with a 60GB model with PS2 backwards compatibility chips on board, CFW and a 1TB SSD, custom fan controls, EASILY one of the best systems I’ve owned! Just looking into 360 mods now, always knew it was harder and required soldering but seems equally as worth it!
Hey mario glad to see you still around haha... I see everyone from the old modding scene trying the rgh3 method even after years. Glad the scene hasnt died completely. I been following mr mondello for awhile on fb and seen when he first tried and and was mind blown. I still got some gems in my 360 collection not sure if ill ever let them go.
This tutorial worked for me and the mod was a success😀 A small additional tip is to save the first read nand somewhere safe and do not overwrite it. I had to redo the soldering after I had already written XeLL to the NAND, so I read the XeLL NAND and continued only to get an error at creating XeBuild image with the correct CPU key. The culprit was that I tried to build it without the clean NAND. Luckily I had a backup, so it worked. So tldr do not overwrite the clean nand dump if you happen to redo the "Read NAND" part after already writing XeLL to it
Fantastic. Thank you. It worked well for me. The only issue I had was that when using the Pico, instead of "Create ECC" (and write ECC) I got buttons that said Create and Write Xell. It really bugged me. This was using version 3.2.0 on August 2022. Luckily the buttons actually worked the same as ECC. All went well after that scare.
I've been watching your channel for awhile now since I always wanted to do soldering but I was intimidated with it but now this is first time that I managed to do a hardmod after getting a soldering iron and sacrificing two 360 motherbords, thanks MrMario!

Now this is something I can do! I’ve always wanted a modded Xbox 360 but never had the money, but this is maybe the cheapest and easiest (I think) hard mod I’ve ever seen!
side note mr mario, the xclamp removal tool is perfect for lifting those tabs on the side panels without removing that black piece under the grates... the sharp end just goes into those holes to lift those tabs

Thank you soooooooooo much for this tutorial!!! I followed it to a T, and managed to get it running on my trinity. I will say this though, that PL bypass had me stuck for unbelievably long 😅 I was in the process of quitting 4 separate times but kept persevering. (the solder and wire would just not stick to that point and kept on bridging with another connection) I honestly dont know how I got it to glitch, but I did. And I am not complaining that it worked XD. So for everyone our there, keep trying and dont give up! I learned my lesson today haha. Thanks again MrMario

Really makes me want get an Xbox 360. I had a PS3 that generation and a Wii, but never got around to getting an Xbox 360. Very cool mod that is just a couple of wires. Great video as always.
I was in the same boat but getting a modded 360 well into the Xbox one generation was a big deal. There's tons of good stuff on the 360 and given you don't need an extra install it saves space storing the games on the console
Thank you MrMario! This guide is incredible and I was able to successfully pull this off as a result! I appreciate all of your hard work! A cautionary tale: Do not attempt this with out the x-clamp tool, unless you know what you're doing. I ordered the tool, but got impatient and decided to try it with a couple screw drivers. I cut one of my cpu traces which red dot of death'd my system. Thankfully I was able to repair the trace and recover the console. It was not at all worth it lol.
what did you add to the end of those nand connection wires that ends up making them sturdy long pin black cables at the end? i’m getting into rgh modding and that seems to be the best for long term modding just wondering what you used there to the regular nand color wires 34:26
Excellent tutorial! I have successfully rgh my system. For others who want to try the solder points are super tiny. Get a magnifying glass and use the tape to hold your wires in place before you put the iron to the points. I didnt use the magnifying glass but i wish i had one. Taping down the wire help a lot!
well turns out yes it is but new problem after writing i got to turn my xbox on and it turns on for a split second then off there is no red ring and also no red light on power brick what am i doing wrong?
@@MrMario2011 found out what the issue is one of the pads I'm soldered to got ripped off when I was moving the motherboard at some point I'm trying right now to scrape right next to the pad to see it I can solder to the cooper that is next to it

Wow, you watch this, and you think it's easy except from the via but for a rookie at soldering takes a lot of gut to have a go, luckily, I've been getting there, and all has gone well. Thank you for this tutorial, it really helped.
nice tutorial. 1 thing that will make it easier is by cutting your wires to size, removing the insulation and use super glue to lay your wires on the motherboard, it makes it a lot easier to bend the wire to its final position and then tack it down
I'm about to this weekend mod my trinity Xbox as well. I'll have all the necessary tools. This video is very helpful and gives me the confidence that I can do it.

Just fineshed installing RGH on my 360 from my childhoodm, i was going to keep it og, but since microsoft pulled the plug on it i modded with RGH. Thanks for the guide MRMario!
it's kind of crazy how we went from drilling into a chip in the dvd drive to play burned discs, to only needing 2 wires for entire unsigned code running.
The drilling on a 16D4S drive is still a thing, that never got easier if you have a drive you need to drill to flash. It would be more accurate to say that we went from all of those glitch chip revisions to 2 wires for unsigned code.
Hey everyone - just fyi a better way to shrink the heatshrink tubing is a hot air rework station/hot air gun/hairdryer as the open flame can desolder the wires (as MrMario said) or burn the heat shrink. Either way awesome tutorial, thx and peace ✌️
I don't own any Xbox products and never plan to, but I did suddenly wonder if an Xbox 360 was harder than a PS3 to mod. Seems I have my answer! Very informative and interesting to watch.
Unrelated, but knicked some traces after using a flat head to undo the X-clamp on a different console, needless to say I immediately purchased the recommended x-clamp tool, was able to do some trace repair and revive it luckily, I'll just save the trouble and heed your warning next time
After flash, mine would boot for 1sec, and auto turn off. I thought I bricked it. I shortened my wires, and changed from a 10K to a 5K resistor (did not touch any solder points on the board), and so far it's working good. Thanks for the great guide. It helped a ton.
After almost a week, it stopped working. Opened trinity unit again, and wire under processor disconnected… assuming solder was weak on that very small point and being under processor where its hot it eventually let go… resoldered it and seems much better connection now…. Im assuming this is maybe why the lower resistor value initially fixed it for me because connection was weak and wasn’t letting as much power go through… it’s working again now, but very curious if I switched back to the 10K now that my connection is better, if everything would still work.
If this is the case, and you had to lower the value of your resistor to make it work, it may be the sign of weak solder points… cant tell for sure without more testing, but thought id throw that out there in cases it can help anyone that is having problems w their setup.

If I may make a suggestion, I'd like to see a video on how to make the consol have custom start up sounds using a jq6500 mp3 controller. It would be a big help!

And at 48:35 , when i want to go to full retail version, how do i flash the retail image? and what is retail image? is it nand dump 1 & 2? Small question just for being 100% sure: at 43:03 (get cpu key) you say "disconnect the programmer from the console" does that mean for the pico I'll desolder it and then resolder it later once again to reflash the modified nand ?
Just wanted to thank you for this tutorial. I succeeded on my 3rd try luckily the consoles are only about £25 at the moment, and i think my 2nd attempt will be fine when i do the soldering again.

i found a alternative to soldering to a via below the APU if you prefer DB5R4 is the Reference Its the Through hole Point With the big trace next to the Diode Trinity
I ripped one of the trace during soldering, but glad that it can be fixed using a jumper wire. Btw, Im glad with the end result, as a first timer doing this mod
I had to use a 4.7K resistor on my Trinity, when using a 10K the console would not boot, the cpu fan would spin very slowly and the power seemed to be cycling every half second over and over. Worked first try with a 4.7K.
@@MrMario2011Everthing was fine until I reassembled the console. The console booted into xell and I wrote the nand. I disconnected the rpi pico and once I reassembled, the console booted with a red light dot and no picture. Would it be caused by me shorting some of the pico connections on the console? The error is 0020
Ive had my RGH slim Trinity with dual nand since 2011. Now its a pure gem from the past due to the death of xbox360. It currently still on its 2011 dash lol but has the latest aurora on boot up.
Hey Mr. Mario, you just inspired me to build my own RGH 360 for Trinity. I was looking over the video and I heard you say 10 K resistor so I ordered that part over 3K but I’ve also heard 3K is the easiest to use. Have you had any issues with boot times or have they been the same with 3K and 10 K?
It depends entirely on the console, every single one is different! I've used 10K and 3K on different consoles, been lucky enough to have them instaboot.
22:36 I find that a jet style lighter is a little bit easier to use for working with heat shrink. to be fair you can use any thing iv gotten away with using the shaft of my soldering iron to shrink heatshrink
Massive thanks for this tutorial. Gave it a try as my first soldering project and it went without a hitch. Only problem I ran into was I didn't know that I needed to plug the power into the xbox console before plugging in my pico flasher to usb. Otherwise it would not see the console.
I took the plunge, bought the necessary supplies, and gave it a shot. Despite having 0 soldering experience everything worked out great thanks to this thorough tutorial

Your tutorials are a life saver. There's not a lot of hand holding in the 360 modding community. Its kept me out of the game for quite some time, but your videos have always been there to try and bridge the gap.

There's a small, but very important mistake in this tutorial, but everyone with a decent brain will probably notice:
@43:07 you tell the viewer to disconnect the nand programmer (in my case it was the Pi Pico) from "the console itself", which will end up not working. I'm sure you were trying to say, "Disconnect it from the pc.", which is what I did and it did indeed work and boot into Xell. If you disconnect (or in my case would've had to unsolder) it from the console, it probably will end up not booting at all.
It's also a better idea to reattach the cpu cooler before soldering the nand programmer wires onto the console, so that you don't risk for them to fall off in the process.

Not really an error.
With the purpose made 360 NAND flashers, the wires go to a connector so you can disconnect the console from the flasher. Obviously you can also just disconnect it from the PC too.
With the Pico the wires are soldered to it, so yes you would just disconnect it from the PC.

@@MrMario2011 I just tried this and now my Xbox doesn’t boot up at all just a green light for like 1-2 seconds then red light the fan shuts down and the system doesn’t boot… pretty sure I bricked it😂 anyways any idea where I went wrong? What to check? What to do? I followed the video step by step and got all the way to the point where you unplug the xflasher from the console to get the cpu key from xell… Xell never popped up and I never was able to get the cpu key so what do I do now? I’m not about to give up when I’ve come this far…
@@MrMario2011 I got so lucky! I accidentally bridged like 4 of the points from post and was able to unbridge them, I wrote the ECC and next thing I know, Xell was on screen. Although I did accidentally plug the cooling fan into where the dvd drive goes to, I cooked the fan but did I do anything to the motherboard?
@@yngproduct6617late, but xell may not have been flashed properly since the Xbox will start giving red light if the cables are soldered but it's running stock firmware
Superb tutorial, many thanks. Flashing using pi pico worked. In JRunner some buttons have been renamed. For example: Create ECC -> Create XeLL or Write ECC -> Write XeLL. But the button placement is still the same.

If you are getting “Header is Wrong” using the PicoFlasher and maybe other flashers… it’s because your wires from the flasher to the Xbox are to LONG. I made this mistake, my wires were around 20inches long and I was get this error. They are now around 6-9 inches long and it works perfectly fine now. Please pass this along, that the NAND wires need to be short…. Maybe at most 10 inches long.

Awesome tutorial, I'm going to use it on my Trinity! Just a few suggestions to improve your disassembly tutorial: at 10:50 don't force the tabs, just grab a very thin/pointy screwdriver and carefully disengage the tabs, it takes a little patience but it works great, I used a magnifying glass to take a peak at the tabs and figure out the best angle. At 14:05, just press the empty space above the XBOX 360 seal that's joining both covers, it will push the tab away and release the cover, no poking hole needed. I didn't go any further because I just wanted to check if I had a Trinity board, which I do because both J2C1 and J2C3 headers are parallel to each other.
I have another suggestion.
If your console is currently RGH2 (or 1.2) and still boots (and you haven't already removed your glitch chip), then you can convert it to RGH3 it without soldering in a NAND Flasher again! Here's how...
1. If you still have still have your old NAND dumps from when you RGH2'ed it, then you can skip 1.1 and 1.2.
1.1 If you need NAND dumps, you can boot up your 360 and get Simple 360 NAND Flasher 1.4b and you can use it to dump your NAND.
1.2 Then you can copy your dumps to a flash drive from Aurora/XEXMenu/FSD.
2. Load up you NAND dumps (either the ones you still kept from when you RGH2'ed or the ones you just dumped) into J-Runner.
3. Then you can select RGH3 and Create XeBuild Image.
4. Then rather than soldering the NAND Flasher (which is time consuming and finnicky), you can rename your newly-created XeBuild image to updflash.bin and copy it to your flash drive.
5. Then turn your console off and plug the flash drive in. Then press the eject button to boot into Xell and wait.
6. It should automatically start flashing the RGH3 updflash.bin, and once it's done you can turn your 360 off.
7. Do *NOT* turn it back on until you've soldered the 2 wires (POST & PLL) and have completely desoldered and removed your old (and now unnecessary) glitch chip.
*Now that that's done you can turn it on and it should boot instantly every time!*
For those who are RGH'ing for the first time, after flashing ECC, you don't have to use the NAND flasher to flash the Xebuild image! Here's how:
* Flash ECC, boot into Xell and grab the CPU Key, then you can create your RGH3 Xebuild image.
* Then find it and rename it to updflash.bin, and copy it to the root of your flash drive (must be FAT32 if I remember correctly)
* Then turn your console off, plug the flash drive in and boot Xell again and wait.
* It should automatically start flashing the NAND with the new RGH3 updflash.bin. Once it's done you can turn off you console, unplug the flash drive and boot it and your RGH3 should be a success!
Why would you wanna do it this way rather than flashing all 16/64/256MB using the NAND flasher?
* Well Xell is very small (50 blocks), so when you flashed ECC it didn't take long, however depending on your NAND size and speed of your flasher, writing the XeBuild image will take from 4 - 20 minutes. Writing it inside Xell however should take less than a minute.
* Also, if you aren't 100% confident in your soldering, then doing it this way means you don't have to worry about a wire coming loose during that 4-20 minute period and corrupting your NAND.
* The nice part is that you can always do this, even while the console is put back together. So if there's a new dashboard or RGH method that requires you to flash your NAND again, you don't have to worry about soldering in that NAND flasher again.

Just wanted to comment and say thanks for a superb tutorial. FYI to anyone that cares, it is possibly to scrape the PLL_Bypass without a microscope or magnifying glass. I did it! But that might be dumb luck, it is incredibly small in person. Patience and careful movement help. A few notes for anyone else who might hit some of the same stumbling blocks as I did:
- the COM port thing with the PicoFlasher isn’t terribly reliable (at least on Windows 11) but rebooting and opening J-Runner as admin seems to get it to function every time
- You don’t need to desolder the Pi when you boot Xell for the first time, just make sure it’s disconnected from your computer (again, might need to reboot the PC afterwards when you flash the NAND)
- I started with a 3k resistor and that wasn’t doing it for me and I had to switch it out for a 10k which works flawlessly. Might have been my bad soldering, maybe the resistance does matter. Either way, something worth troubleshooting

Mr Mario, I want to thank you for making this video. I am someone who has not had a lot of experience modding. In fact, some years back I tried to do one of these mods with a glitch chip and it didn't go well. I didn't have the confidence to fix the trace that I messed up. I sent the system out to get fixed and modded. I don't think I'll have to do that again. I have a little bit more experience now fixing traces so it left me feeling more confident. Of course having one of those magnifying headsets helped quite a bit. Especially with the hardest part of connecting the two wires in the back. I use a craft knife and a brand new blade and I was able to knock it out in no time. I don't have a steady hand, but I was like a surgeon. I followed everything step by step. Ironically, as soon as I opened up my bag of resistors I found the 10K resistors too. I also had the same wrapping wire you had, and shrink wrap. So it made the installation a breeze. You were a great help and thank you again.

I have 0 experience soldering, I picked up 2 trinity consoles and 2 jaspers for £50, got myself all the stuff I needed, a £15 soldering iron and got straight to work, first try... successful! I put the console back together and boom... didn't boot. Took it apart and I snagged a wire when I rebuilt it. Second attempt today, resoldered all the wires, it's working perfectly!
For someone with 0 experience and just a lot of determination, I'd recommend giving this a go if you're confident enough, the feeling at the end when it's all successful is amazing!

Managed to do this successfully on my trinity a few days ago as a first timer. I found the PLL_BYPASS surprisingly okay, I was slow and careful, constantly cleaning it and seeing progress. A magnifying glass or a good close-up camera is really helpful to see what you’re doing. I found the NAND soldering the most challenging because the ends of the Dupont wires I used with my Raspberry Pico were clunky and awkward to solder to the motherboard. I had to re-solder the connections a few times in order for J-Runner to detect the console.

If you planned on doing a second console, I would recommend some breadboard jumper wires. I did this and it was super simple. You can get male to male so each end is a solid metal peg you can easily solder, or you have male on one end for the console and cut and solder the end for the pi. Congrats on your success!

I used a standard pin header to which I soldered small long wires (about 15cm). I had my pi pico plugged in a breadboard. The pin header was then also plugged into the breadboard. No additional jumper wires are needed. The bare wires now need to be soldered to the NAND and the flashing can start. This way the header can be reused by desoldering the wires from the NAND when everything is finished.
Successfully RGH3'd my 360!!!!!! Thanks a ton for all your guides, this was the most in depth console mod I've done so far and you made it easy to navigate.

The release of RGH3 motivated me to finally dust off my old Resident Evil 5 Jasper and get it modded. I haven't had so much fun with my 360 in a while! It gave a second life to a console with a temperamental disc drive that pretty much was useless. Boot times are often less than 10 seconds so I'm happy.
Awesome! I've performed it only on one phat that I have, didn't have much value assigned to it so it was a good guinea pig to try RGH3 on. Pleasantly surprised with it, Falcon board working well and boot times average about 7 or 8 seconds.

Dude, what a ride! Thanks for your video, you can not imagine how I sweated and shook with my Xbox while following along. The PLL soldering point was wild and of all things the yellow wire from the NAND would not hold with me at all. I was in sheer despair until I found out that yellow is only ground and I can solder it literally anywhere else. And despite all that, miracles happened, the Picoflasher and J-Runner kicked in and I still can't believe it, I have a RGH-Xbox! Hopefully I don't ruin it while desoldering and assembling! Haha. Thanks for your great video, it really helped me extremely!

Small bit of advice when you have the motherboard exposed, look for any blown or domed capacitors. They're are two main types of electrolytic capacitors on the board and the ones we're looking at are the ones above the white sticker at 50:00
If you have any that look like they're bulging or rounded at the top then they're most likely failing, any that are burst, broken, or leaking are definitely dead. While not crucial to the function of the system they can cause issues with it and should probably be swapped with new ones. Good news is they're dirt cheap, easy to find, and easy to swap out using the soldering tips described in this video, just make sure the polarity is the same as the old ones (it's marked on the side of the capacitor).

Everything I've read a 3k-5k resistor was the recommended. I use a 3.3k myself on a few different Trinitys and they worked out great. 22k for Falcon/Jasper (plus a diode) and 1k for Coronas.

I dunno how often it's mentioned, but people should put a disclaimer about how one routes their wires and why. I wasn't paying too much attention to how I placed them, and it caused my Xbox to constantly free on Aurora menu. I opened up my Xbox to double check and decided to move some wires because I figured there was some noise being introduced. I also redid my solder points and now my Xbox is not freezing anymore. Whereas it used to freeze consistently after a few minutes.
Always check the continuity on the solder joints
Great tutorial... I have done two Trinity RGH3 based on this. I have lots of experience with OG Xbox (Xtender from leaked code done very first evening actually was my first). However, this RGH3 requires some intermediate to advanced soldering skills. I purchased an inexpensive digital Microscope in order to do things like this, and I cannot imagine how it could be done without one (maybe with magnifier glasses) - wow I wish I would have had this technology 20+ years ago!!! The footage in video makes it appear much larger and easier to do than it is in real life, and I just don't see how someone can go in with a cheap soldering iron and perform the mod without a magnifier - especially PLL_BYPASS. Maybe it is my old eyes, but even with reading glasses I would not do. For those who managed to do this mod with naked eye, I applaud them!
You know? I was talking to someone about this just yesterday who did tons of PS2 chip installs. He could do those with no magnification, but age hit him and he can't see those points very well anymore with the naked eye. We talked about how it would have been so awesome to have digital microscopes back then.
Always loved using my modded PS3 but never played my 360 much, will be sure to give this a go once I have the parts.
I got my PS3 40GB in August of 08 from Blockbuster on a promotion they were running. The experience back then was SO bad in the early years that I leaped for an Xbox 360 Elite in March of 2010 and never looked back. MODIFIED though, with a 60GB model with PS2 backwards compatibility chips on board, CFW and a 1TB SSD, custom fan controls, EASILY one of the best systems I’ve owned! Just looking into 360 mods now, always knew it was harder and required soldering but seems equally as worth it!

I been following mr mondello for awhile on fb and seen when he first tried and and was mind blown. I still got some gems in my 360 collection not sure if ill ever let them go.

This tutorial worked for me and the mod was a success😀 A small additional tip is to save the first read nand somewhere safe and do not overwrite it. I had to redo the soldering after I had already written XeLL to the NAND, so I read the XeLL NAND and continued only to get an error at creating XeBuild image with the correct CPU key. The culprit was that I tried to build it without the clean NAND. Luckily I had a backup, so it worked.
So tldr do not overwrite the clean nand dump if you happen to redo the "Read NAND" part after already writing XeLL to it
Fantastic. Thank you. It worked well for me. The only issue I had was that when using the Pico, instead of "Create ECC" (and write ECC) I got buttons that said Create and Write Xell. It really bugged me. This was using version 3.2.0 on August 2022. Luckily the buttons actually worked the same as ECC. All went well after that scare.

Definitely affordable, but also not the easiest. Be sure to look at how small the points are if you attempt this yourself!

For the PLL point I just used some tweezers to scrape the board. Worked great. I had a spare 4.7K Ohm resistor and it instaboots every time!
side note mr mario, the xclamp removal tool is perfect for lifting those tabs on the side panels without removing that black piece under the grates... the sharp end just goes into those holes to lift those tabs

Thank you soooooooooo much for this tutorial!!! I followed it to a T, and managed to get it running on my trinity. I will say this though, that PL bypass had me stuck for unbelievably long 😅 I was in the process of quitting 4 separate times but kept persevering. (the solder and wire would just not stick to that point and kept on bridging with another connection) I honestly dont know how I got it to glitch, but I did. And I am not complaining that it worked XD. So for everyone our there, keep trying and dont give up! I learned my lesson today haha. Thanks again MrMario

Have a spare trinity, a nand-x sitting in a drawer at work that I use to discover master key for unlocking parental controlls(repair tech at video game store), also found a 10k resistor on a junk crt scan board in my parts heap, the modding spirits have smiled upon me this day 🖤

Really makes me want get an Xbox 360. I had a PS3 that generation and a Wii, but never got around to getting an Xbox 360.

I was in the same boat but getting a modded 360 well into the Xbox one generation was a big deal. There's tons of good stuff on the 360 and given you don't need an extra install it saves space storing the games on the console
Get it I just got one and I love it and this is coming from someone who has the new consoles like PS5 and series x and I use my old consoles more lol

I always disconnect it whenever I turn on the console.

A cautionary tale: Do not attempt this with out the x-clamp tool, unless you know what you're doing. I ordered the tool, but got impatient and decided to try it with a couple screw drivers. I cut one of my cpu traces which red dot of death'd my system. Thankfully I was able to repair the trace and recover the console. It was not at all worth it lol.

I find that a small pair of diagonal cutters works great to grip the x-clamp right at that narrow points where it bends down at the ends 🖤

what did you add to the end of those nand connection wires that ends up making them sturdy long pin black cables at the end? i’m getting into rgh modding and that seems to be the best for long term modding just wondering what you used there to the regular nand color wires 34:26

Excellent tutorial! I have successfully rgh my system. For others who want to try the solder points are super tiny. Get a magnifying glass and use the tape to hold your wires in place before you put the iron to the points. I didnt use the magnifying glass but i wish i had one. Taping down the wire help a lot!

well turns out yes it is but new problem after writing i got to turn my xbox on and it turns on for a split second then off there is no red ring and also no red light on power brick what am i doing wrong?
Issues with soldering or solder quality.
@@MrMario2011 found out what the issue is one of the pads I'm soldered to got ripped off when I was moving the motherboard at some point I'm trying right now to scrape right next to the pad to see it I can solder to the cooper that is next to it

Wow, you watch this, and you think it's easy except from the via but for a rookie at soldering takes a lot of gut to have a go, luckily, I've been getting there, and all has gone well. Thank you for this tutorial, it really helped.

nice tutorial. 1 thing that will make it easier is by cutting your wires to size, removing the insulation and use super glue to lay your wires on the motherboard, it makes it a lot easier to bend the wire to its final position and then tack it down

Just fineshed installing RGH on my 360 from my childhoodm, i was going to keep it og, but since microsoft pulled the plug on it i modded with RGH. Thanks for the guide MRMario!

it's kind of crazy how we went from drilling into a chip in the dvd drive to play burned discs, to only needing 2 wires for entire unsigned code running.
The drilling on a 16D4S drive is still a thing, that never got easier if you have a drive you need to drill to flash. It would be more accurate to say that we went from all of those glitch chip revisions to 2 wires for unsigned code.
Might end up going with a pico flasher as i live in france which already adds import fees but also all the options are out of stock anyway

Hey everyone - just fyi a better way to shrink the heatshrink tubing is a hot air rework station/hot air gun/hairdryer as the open flame can desolder the wires (as MrMario said) or burn the heat shrink. Either way awesome tutorial, thx and peace ✌️
At 34:34 you’re using metal pins, where would I find these? They seem so much easier to deal with for close soldering like this!

I don't own any Xbox products and never plan to, but I did suddenly wonder if an Xbox 360 was harder than a PS3 to mod. Seems I have my answer! Very informative and interesting to watch.

Unrelated, but knicked some traces after using a flat head to undo the X-clamp on a different console, needless to say I immediately purchased the recommended x-clamp tool, was able to do some trace repair and revive it luckily, I'll just save the trouble and heed your warning next time

Was it your first mod?
After flash, mine would boot for 1sec, and auto turn off. I thought I bricked it. I shortened my wires, and changed from a 10K to a 5K resistor (did not touch any solder points on the board), and so far it's working good. Thanks for the great guide. It helped a ton.
Great troubleshooting!
After almost a week, it stopped working. Opened trinity unit again, and wire under processor disconnected… assuming solder was weak on that very small point and being under processor where its hot it eventually let go… resoldered it and seems much better connection now…. Im assuming this is maybe why the lower resistor value initially fixed it for me because connection was weak and wasn’t letting as much power go through… it’s working again now, but very curious if I switched back to the 10K now that my connection is better, if everything would still work.
If this is the case, and you had to lower the value of your resistor to make it work, it may be the sign of weak solder points… cant tell for sure without more testing, but thought id throw that out there in cases it can help anyone that is having problems w their setup.

at 30:16 i accidently pulled solder out of the circuit board what can i do to recover on the post point
Easiest fix would be to use a POSTfix Adapter, install that, and use the pad on there as your POST point.
@MrMario2011 I gave it some thought and I just looped a wire to.the other side and used a exactoknife on the post point like the pll

At 33:28 you are soldering on temporary rods. What are those called? I’m trying to find some with no luck 😅

Awesome work, I'm getting my X360 E delivered soon and I have a couple pico on hands, I'll try this right away.
Small question just for being 100% sure: at 43:03 (get cpu key) you say "disconnect the programmer from the console" does that mean for the pico I'll desolder it and then resolder it later once again to reflash the modified nand ?
unless things have changed you cant rgh the e models, you want an un opened trinity or corona.
Just wanted to thank you for this tutorial. I succeeded on my 3rd try luckily the consoles are only about £25 at the moment, and i think my 2nd attempt will be fine when i do the soldering again.
Awesome! Already bricked one of my phats back in the day trying to mod it, this seems straight forward. And cost effective. Just decided to look for slims around me and found a trinity in perfect condition for 20€. Less than the professional flasher.

i found a alternative to soldering to a via below the APU if you prefer DB5R4 is the Reference Its the Through hole Point With the big trace next to the Diode Trinity
I ripped one of the trace during soldering, but glad that it can be fixed using a jumper wire. Btw, Im glad with the end result, as a first timer doing this mod
Can you use a 22k ohm instead of a 10k ohm resistor?

I had to use a 4.7K resistor on my Trinity, when using a 10K the console would not boot, the cpu fan would spin very slowly and the power seemed to be cycling every half second over and over. Worked first try with a 4.7K.

Why is the yellow point at 32:38 impossible to tin? The other points are fine but it's just that one.
Not impossible, but can require some more attention compared to other points.

@@MrMario2011Everthing was fine until I reassembled the console. The console booted into xell and I wrote the nand. I disconnected the rpi pico and once I reassembled, the console booted with a red light dot and no picture. Would it be caused by me shorting some of the pico connections on the console? The error is 0020

Ive had my RGH slim Trinity with dual nand since 2011. Now its a pure gem from the past due to the death of xbox360. It currently still on its 2011 dash lol but has the latest aurora on boot up.
Still happy with my dual-NAND systems. The store is gone, not the service.
Hey Mr. Mario, you just inspired me to build my own RGH 360 for Trinity. I was looking over the video and I heard you say 10 K resistor so I ordered that part over 3K but I’ve also heard 3K is the easiest to use. Have you had any issues with boot times or have they been the same with 3K and 10 K?
It depends entirely on the console, every single one is different! I've used 10K and 3K on different consoles, been lucky enough to have them instaboot.
22:36 I find that a jet style lighter is a little bit easier to use for working with heat shrink. to be fair you can use any thing iv gotten away with using the shaft of my soldering iron to shrink heatshrink

Massive thanks for this tutorial. Gave it a try as my first soldering project and it went without a hitch. Only problem I ran into was I didn't know that I needed to plug the power into the xbox console before plugging in my pico flasher to usb. Otherwise it would not see the console.
That'll throw anyone off!
