We still need mourn our loved one's! In my studies of different faiths, I have learned that they don't really teach the scriptures at all! So a lot of people say thete Christian, and that's really great, but hardly any of them know what's really required of the Lord that we may return to him! Tattoos go against the teachings of God, yet many people go and get them, because they don't know they shouldn't! In Leviticus and talks about homosexuality that it's an abomination many preachers today leave that out because they would rather have people attend church then to not come so they just leave it out and then people who attend church don't really know what's required by the Lord because again the preachers that are kind of taking the position of being in charge of your soul are not doing it right for instance it even mentions The Three Degrees Of Glory in the Bible the telestial terrestrial and Celestial are three DEGREES of glory, no one even mentions this, but the Mormons! Baptism by immersion is also ignored and it's in the Bible that you have to have baptism by immersion which means you are completely underwater but the Catholics refused it to do it this way.So depending on someone's BELIEFS, you should worry a little bit!
I wish every JPW song i go to wasn't full of comments about missing Joy, or would be so much better with Joy, etc. Yes they were a great duo, but John Paul is amazing on his own. I'm sure he would appreciate being recognized only for himself and his beautiful, soulful, individual talent. Peace

I've just found this song today and I think I've played a hundred times the first 50 years rolled down my cheeks like raindrops. I loved the Civil Wars and I miss their harmony but I love JP we went to the same Catholic school in Loretto TN. I older than him but being from the same home town and knowing all the same people. He's just the best in my book and his voice, well no one can compare.

Saw John Paul last night in Denver at the Bluebird (08/02/2014)... there wasn't a dusty corner left in the room... every eye was a pool... he was simply amazing... every heart was shaken, stirred, and laid to rest... The way he's entering the house is so reminiscent of the 'Poison & Wine' video! He entered the house with Joy then...and now he's entering it alone. Seems almost like a post-breakup muse.
But, we gotta remember that JPW was a solo musician before he met Joy; his vocals were stunning then, and they're stunning now! :)

I think he's had a lot of control over the "sound" of The Civil Wars tho, because it's pretty much the same music as when they were The Civil Wars. Joy has found herself and her own "sound". I like her new empowerment of her voice. As much as I love them together, I can't be completely upset over their divorced voices.
Shay Grey Yeah, I agree with that! Though I preferred Joy's slower songs on Venus like the acoustic version of 'We Can Never Go Back' and 'What A Good Woman Does'.
As for JPW, I absolutely loved his debut album. I think his voice suits rock/indie music. If he made an album like that again, I'd be over the moon but I think he's not interested in that genre anymore since The Civil Wars. :(

One of my most favorite songs. Deep and moving. Also speaks to the way people can be a totally different person with their spouse than with everyone else in their life. We never really know the depth and breadth of someone’s inner self, even those we love.
I am so glad he JP is part if the Southern Family project. This song truly deserved to be written and, my oh my, he will never stop astounding me with his pure, pin-point talent. I love this man with every ounce of my being.

I wish this version was on Spotify. The way his vocals echo throughout the room isn't replicable.
This video is absolutely brilliant, and JPW's vocals are completely indescribable and unmatched by any other artist. I long for more from him. I love The Civil Wars, but JP's new solo stuff brings a new depth to him as an artist and I'm just in awe.

This confirms by strong belief that John Paul's creativity is THE driving force...love his music so much. I miss the Civil Wars, but I am SO very happy to have JP's music again. I created my own playlist on Spotify - called it Joy and John Paul - when his album comes out I'll add more of his songs but so far it consists of Civil wars songs, her solo acoustic latest stuff and some of his :) keeping the memory alive. Love them both so much - they speak to my heart.

Joy Williams latest album has gut- wrenchingly sad and hauntingly beautiful songs just like this song about lost love.... are they talking about each other? We may never know. I do hope they can get back together one day, their music was amazing together but they're also really good on their own.

John played in London this week, at The Bush Hall, Shepherd's Bush. It was such a memorable night, he just blew everyone away, when he played Simple Song, you could hear a pin drop, that is such an emotional song, one of the best ever. I play it everyday, minimum of 5 times.

I loved the Civil Wars too, but it's time to move on- he has. These are the words of his grandmother, spoken about his grandfather..nothing to do at all with Joy, even though it may seem so . Funny how we can read what we want to into a song, lol. He performed this amazing song with The Secret Sisters last year and the harmonies were spectacular. Love you JPW!
