My baby sister sent this link to me. She said it makes her cry, but it also reminds her of me. Age and struggles of our youth are catching up to us. Thank you for such a great song
This is probably the best song ever. Been clean and sober 34 years now. I lost my son this year to suicide. All I know that as long I keep going forward, no drink or drug ill be ok. Good line, "you wouldnt be you if it was easy" my late sisters words are all over this. She always told me I didn't do anything the easy way, but thats what makes me who I am today. My son just forgot who he was for a time but in the end he gained his angel wings
It seems fitting somehow that I wrote you a long note, and somehow it vanished in the ether. What I was trying to say was that I got sober in '83, have experienced grief and loss, and love this song probably as much as you do. The 4/4 time and the "Travis Strum" (or "Cotton Pickin'") fingerstyle makes it easy to play for old timers like me. It's a song you can sing like nobody's watching and nobody's listening. I am so sorry that this song brings your loss to mind, but I guess you experience both joy and tears like I do when I hear it. Although I'm just a guy who's played Americana since high school -- sixty years -- I've never been very good at it, and I've always said that I wish I could write just one song this good. So I'm grateful to Rodney for doing what so many of us have longed to do. Maybe there's still time. It ain't over yet. Cheers - T👍🏼

Congrats on 34 years. I'd have 26 if I'd stayed stopped but I've got an honest 14 months now. Saw Rodney and Roseanne separately at the Paradise a block from where I lived in Brookline, MA in the late '70s. I was already a fan at that time.@@garrylines1988

Occasionally while tripping around on You Tube I'll come across a song that I haven't heard before that I consider to be nothing short of brilliant. That just happened again. Thank you Rodney.
Found it just that way this morning. Just me, my coffee & Rodney. I’ve always appreciated his deft talents as a songwriter, and his plaintive voice. He’s the guy Vince Gill calls “the best songwriter in the world”. Thanks for posting this.
Way, way, back, when Rodney and Roseanne were married, they were on Canadian TV, from a recoding studio in Hamilton, Ontario, ( possibly Daniel Lanois' studio ). They played a bunch of songs, accompanied by Albert Lee. We didn't have cable, and it was a late night find. I just happened upon it.
The greatest artists and songs never are. "Popular" music of all genres is a direct reflection of why vanilla ice cream is the most popular ice cream flavor in America.
It's a crying ass shame that this isn't played on every radio station in America. What a great song! Rodney Crowell is at the top of the singer songwriter genre and keeps getting better.
Rodney knows that radio airplay ain't everything. He learned that at the hands of the master, guy clark, who just kept churning out masterpieces while the airwaves mostly ignored him.
A testament to how much they truly care for one another. It's easy to write someone out of your life when you don't care. No so much so, when you love them.
I keep coming back to this video, I absolutely love Rodney Crowell, especially this 2016 song, featuring John Paul White and the wonderful Roseanne Cash, what a talented trio of musicians. I can’t wait to see Rodney again!!❤❤❤❤❤
I find it deeply moving the way Roseanne appears to contribute to the song celebrating her exhusband’s finding a new love. The First Lady of country music. A truly great song, and a fantastic video too.

Country is not dead as long as you look for it. Glad to see the greats still putting out great music with meaning. Great interview on CBS This Morning with Rodney this morning.
My vote for 2017 Song of the Year , Rodney , Rosanne & John Paul best harmony vocals I have heard in many a year. Many thanks to Rodney for this beautiful gem of a song , hoping we hear more from Rodney , Rosanne & John Paul.
I loved that group and was so upset when they broke up, I never thought I could see either one without the other. I have to say I’ve enjoyed all of his music since, Joy doesn’t seem to carry on as easily. John was the real talent behind that band.
Congratulations to Rodney on winning the Americana Award for Song of the Year for "It Ain't Over Yet" from his Close Ties album...a well deserved award for a beautiful song from a masterpiece album.
What a gift this song is. I can't get this off my mind. So simple, so sweet so deep. Wo three of my favorite singers. And the harp at the end. As close to a hymn that I've heard all week.
Damn, KJM, that harp at the end was the golden frosting on this rather poignant gold song, and what a trio, Rosanne, Rodney, and John Paul. I had the joy of seeing Rodney in SoCal a month and a half or so ago, simply the best.
Thank you, Kevin, I will now look Mickey Raphael up, such a very special ending to such a special song. These four really worked something extra special here.
It's so great to see Rodney and Rosanne are still friends and sing on each others albums and the addition of John Paul White was really nice. Great song, love it. Life lessons.
If you watch the promotion interview you will hear John Paul struggle to lay claim to authoring It AINT Over Yet while Rodney coaxes and fills in for any doubt….I wrote this
I don't know MIckey Raphael, but wanted to know who the harpist is. Thanks for typing his name. Now I can go down the TH-cam rabbit hole looking for more of his work!
When you feel it down inside you. The tears just come out without warning. That's real music. It saddens me to think that I was walking around this world without this music in my life. This is a fitting song for what trials I have going on in my life right now.
It ain't over yet You can get up off the mat... The spirit behind the music is for you, and all of us As Rodney said to me when he signed my book and CD after a concert, God bless you, too. There is healing and strength in the tears. Grab it.
Sitting here crying. Beautiful. THIS is what Rodney does. So glad to hear you two singing together again. Voices made for each other. Blessings and love.
He will miss her just as much as she will miss him, both dying never feeling what it is that keeps them moving! That smoltering fire lying beneath the belly of their souls!
A hymn. The perfect comment. I’m not religious by any means but you’re so right. Good morning from Houston. I checked out your channel of blues videos. Jimmie and Kim, Sonny Landreth, Bobby “Blue” Bland. Very cool.
This is a great song. One of Rodney Crowell's best in my humble opinion. I'm a DJ on our local unaffiliated broadcast radio station and I would love to play this song. Rodney has a lot of fans in this town. However, in the lyrics is the word "shit" and so can't be played on a broadcast medium. It's an FCC rule and can come with a $10,000 fine. So, don't blame me and, of course I don't blame Rodney that I can't play it. And before you suggest it, I will never modify anyone's song with a bleep or by cutting out the word. A song is like a painting. It's presented to the world by the artist as a completed work. Thanks to Rodney Crowell for a lifetime of great writing and playing.
Heck of a tune right there! Poetry at it's best and I truly miss that. Such honesty, humbleness, and all things that modern country seems to have forgotten! Great harmony, pickin', a great story!!!
When is Rodney Crowell will ever come to Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada 🇨🇦 Please? I love this gentleman's music, he is a genius writer and singer. Fr: Canada with love ❤
My God! He's got another hit on his hands! I'm sure he doesn't mind that but he seems to have a message he is trying to get out in all his recent writing. The message is the thing, you write to get closer to something, someone. It is really a gift to keep expressing this stuff and have the feelings readily understood. Another heart felt gem here.
As one comment above states, this is a song about redemption, healing, and God's grace. It may be "about" Guy Clark or whoever; and as with all great art it's about me. And you, and all who have commented here that the song touches.
Brings a tear, a smile and deep thoughts of what we have done. What can be better in a song that makes a heart heavy and yet soar across the heaven of our souls.
Every song that has ever featured Rosanne Cash has been made better for it. She's good by herself but is the 'cherry on top ' when she sings with others.
This song has helped me more then words could explain. I am a singer-songwriter from Houston TX as well. My mom was signed with Conway when she was 17, and I wrote a song about it last night. I hadn't written a song in 2 years, so thank you. I was moved by an interview you did. You said "sometimes the songwriter's job is to observe". That statement changed my perspective on songwriting. I wish you would do a songwriters workshop in Houston sometime. I am also a huge fan of John Paul White. I love the call and response play on words between your versus and courses. If I never get a chance to meet you I just want to say thank you. I have so much more I want to say but I will stop now. I love the song
After listening to this for the10th TIME shades of Townes-Dylan's-Guy Clark but Rodney skill bringing it all together with his watery eye's ...silly boys...wordsmith IT'S magnificent .. Greetings from Dublin Ireland brothers and sisters Guy Clark and Susanne smiling down from heaven Doing it as a trio genius...
My favorite thing about Rodney Crowell? Perspective. He makes it clear it's all in your perspective. He still tells it like it is and how we take it is our perspective. What another great song by him!!
Every time I watch this video, I am struck by new revelations - excellent job by Rodney, Rosanne, and John Paul. You made it all come together perfectly.
I am glad a couple of people mentioned the harmonica. I love everything about the song but that harmonica solo at the end is so rich and emotional. Just a stunning end to a great song..
My husband played this song in our car one day and "Oh my", such a wonderful song full of feeling and emotions, I didn't even know who Rodney Crowell was until I heard the song and asked "who sings this?" I love the whole album "Close Ties". you can understand my joy when I found out he was going to play at a fundraiser here in New Braunfels, Texas on 9/9/18. I'm so there and very exited!!

It's like I'm sitting at a bus stop waiting for a train
Exactly how I got here is hard to explain
My heart's in the right place, what's left of it I guess
My heart ain't the problem, it's my mind that's a total mess
With these rickety old legs and watery eyes
It's hard to believe that I could pass for anybody's prize
Here's what I know about the gifts that God gave
You can't take 'em with you when you go to the grave
It ain't over yet, ask someone who ought to know
Not so very long ago we were both hung out to dry
It ain't over yet, you can mark my word
I don't care what you think you heard, we're still learning how to fly
It ain't over yet
For fools like me who were built for the chase
Takes the right kind of woman to help you put it all in place
It only happened once in my life, but man you should have seen
Her hair two shades of foxtail red, her eyes some far out sea blue green
I got caught up making a name for myself, you know what that's about
One day your ship comes rolling in and the next day it rolls right back out
You can't take for granted none of this shit
The higher up you fly boys, the harder you get hit
It ain't over yet, I'll say this about that
You can get up off the mat or you can lay there till you die
It ain't over yet, here's the truth my friend
You can't pack it in and we both know why
It ain't over yet
Silly boys blind to get there first
Think of second chances as some kind of curse
I've known you forever and ever it's true
If you came by it easy, you wouldn't be you
Make me laugh, you make me cry, you make me forget myself
Back when down on my luck kept me up for days
You were there with the right word to help me crawl out of the maze
And when I almost convinced myself I was hipper than thou
You stepped up with a warning shot fired sweet and low across the bow
No you don't walk on water and your sarcasm stings
But the way you move through this old world sure makes a case for angel wings
I was halfway to the bottom when you threw me that line
I quote you now verbatim, "Get your head out of your own behind"
It ain't over yet, what you wanna bet
One more cigarette ain't gonna send you to the grave
It ain't over yet, I've seen your new girlfriend
Thinks you're the living end, great big old sparkle in her eye
It ain't over yet
Kaysler thank you posting the beautiful lyrics.

Man, I was having a rough day. missing my Mom, Rodney was her favorite. This song came up, and just made everything alright. God Bless this man.
God bless your mom.
I just watched "Walk the Line ( Revisited )" tonight; brilliant video.
Country is not dead as long as you look for it. Glad to see the greats still putting out great music with meaning. Great interview on CBS This Morning with Rodney this morning.
Just because some people aren't together doesn't mean they don't have love.
My vote for 2017 Song of the Year , Rodney , Rosanne & John Paul best harmony vocals I have heard in many a year. Many thanks to Rodney for this beautiful gem of a song , hoping we hear more from Rodney , Rosanne & John Paul.
This song will move me forever. Incredible trio of talents
Rodney is a great songwriter; Rosanne is a great singer; I don't really know John Paul White, but it all comes together!
Along with Joy Williams, John Paul White was one-half of the great ex-duo The Civil Wars
JPW has a wonderful voice. He is very talented.
Michael Colby check out Civil Wars. You re going to love John Paul
Still heartbreaking John Paul White & The Civil Wars broke up. Good to see him again.
I loved that group and was so upset when they broke up, I never thought I could see either one without the other. I have to say I’ve enjoyed all of his music since, Joy doesn’t seem to carry on as easily. John was the real talent behind that band.
hey remember you cant take for granted none of this shit!!! like that line !!
Congratulations to Rodney on winning the Americana Award for Song of the Year for "It Ain't Over Yet" from his Close Ties album...a well deserved award for a beautiful song from a masterpiece album.
Thank you for the info,..I missed this in 2017, Toni!

Such a classic, and so fine to see Mickey there... my ears saw him before my eyes
What a gift this song is. I can't get this off my mind. So simple, so sweet so deep. Wo three of my favorite singers. And the harp at the end. As close to a hymn that I've heard all week.
Kevin J. Matthews Mickey Raphael from Willie’s band on harmonica.
John Paul White was the founding member of the group “The Civil War”. I’ve been a fan of his ever since I heard him way back when.
@@JP-fe8py Thanks I wondered who that was!
It's so great to see Rodney and Rosanne are still friends and sing on each others albums and the addition of John Paul White was really nice. Great song, love it. Life lessons.
“Addition of JP White”…? What does that mean..?
If you watch the promotion interview you will hear John Paul struggle to lay claim to authoring It AINT Over Yet while Rodney coaxes and fills in for any doubt….I wrote this
Not to undermine anyones’s talent in that video, and the harmony is everly bros leverage
No mentioning Micky rafaelon harmonica
Incredible collaboration. Mickey Raphael the best harmonica player we will ever see! Rodney Crowell deserves so much more credit than he gets.
Victoria Gensheimer I think he's gonna get it !!
I don't know MIckey Raphael, but wanted to know who the harpist is. Thanks for typing his name. Now I can go down the TH-cam rabbit hole looking for more of his work!
Mickey is showing up everywhere. Does he gambling debts to pay off? :)
He's played with Willie Nelson forever.
The Americana Music Association Song of the Year for 2017. Congratulations, Rodney Crowell!
Brings tears to this old guy's eyes. He is a master, as is Rosanne.
"It Ain't Over Yet" a masterpiece of music video.
When you feel it down inside you. The tears just come out without warning. That's real music. It saddens me to think that I was walking around this world without this music in my life. This is a fitting song for what trials I have going on in my life right now.
God Bless you my Friend!
It ain't over yet
You can get up off the mat...
The spirit behind the music is for you, and all of us
As Rodney said to me when he signed my book and CD after a concert,
God bless you, too.
There is healing and strength in the tears. Grab it.
What a great song. One of America's truly great song writers and performers.
Just about the time I think Rodney can not record a better song, he does. What a wordsmith.
Ms Melanie, it’s ODAT. That’s how you got 32 years. I hope you find comfort in this wonderful song. God Bless
when Rosanne starts in I get goosebumps!
Guy would be proud of the job he does on this one. Well written.
Rodney writes in levels of interpretation. It isn't cleverness, though he is clever. It's deep and real and whole.
He understands writing.
It doesn't get any better than this story, these voices...
Rodney Crowell is amazing and has been for forty years. Rosanne Cash is equally amazing as well.
50 years! At least
One of our premier, treasured song-writers with yet another perfect song. Thank you, Rodney Crowell.
So wonderful to see and hear Rodney and Roseanne together; their harmonies could break your heart.
Wow, what an incredibly powerful song. Absolutely beautiful by everyone involved.
Sitting here crying. Beautiful. THIS is what Rodney does. So glad to hear you two singing together again. Voices made for each other. Blessings and love.
Such a beautiful song and full of meaning for those of us of a "certain age"!
Really nice tune! Love Rodney's music. Seems he penned it in honor of Rosanne so its pretty awesome to have her sing on it with her "angel wings".
I think its mostly about guy clark
Its not about Roseanne. I heard Rodney talk about it. Its about Guy Clark
He will miss her just as much as she will miss him, both dying never feeling what it is that keeps them moving! That smoltering fire lying beneath the belly of their souls!
A hymn...that's what it is! Kevin is right...this song cuts right to the feeling places. Thanks for the feels, Rodney.
Beautiful. I really like John Paul and Rodney, John Paul and Rosanne are killing it together.
Hello Linda, how are you doing?
Beautiful performers, singer-songwriters (the BEST) and a well-crafted, sensitive aesthetic official video on this tune! Many Blessings ~
Who's on HARMONICA? he plays with so so many americana artists .... XO
Mickey Rafael is on harmonica. He’s in Willies band and is the most sought after harmonica player.
Brings a tear to my eye every time I listen.
Just when yu think it can't get any better you hear another one you haven't heard. Beautiful.
Musicrelic I believe he wrote this in part for Guy Clark
As one comment above states, this is a song about redemption, healing, and God's grace. It may be "about" Guy Clark or whoever; and as with all great art it's about me. And you, and all who have commented here that the song touches.
God bless you Rodney, Roseanne and everyone who contributed to this. Where there is life there is hope.
Watched CBS Sunday Morning a few minutes ago. Now I can't get this song out of my mind. I have to buy this album and I'm not a country music fan!
Stuart Fralick It is an amazing piece of work!
Same here. Woke up hearing it on TV. And now I'm stuck. Beautiful song!
americana Music
me also.....a very great thing they did for us, almost perfect
Me neither, but this song just made a CM fan outta li'l ol' me! ;-)
I saw him today, on American 693 Charlotte to Nashville. Still easy to recognize. Nice song.
After listening to this for the10th TIME shades of
Townes-Dylan's-Guy Clark but Rodney skill bringing it all together with his watery eye's ...silly boys...wordsmith
IT'S magnificent ..
Greetings from Dublin Ireland brothers and sisters Guy Clark and Susanne smiling down from heaven
Doing it as a trio genius...
I Like it so much, i want the chords
World seems changed with guy and susanna clark gone. And townes-seemed where ever they were so was he... all gone. Great song by rodney
Put this beautiful, soulful, rueful tune in your back pocket and take a walk into your past...spare a smile for the kids we once were. XO
Hello beautiful
Thanks Rodney!
Beautiful to see/hear Rodney and Rosanne together again!
My favorite thing about Rodney Crowell? Perspective. He makes it clear it's all in your perspective. He still tells it like it is and how we take it is our perspective. What another great song by him!!
So beautiful. I can hear Townes in there...
Lupe and Lil would agree
Mr Crowell, thank you. Just the right song at the right time for me. … And Guy & Townes are with you.
so good to see John Paul back in the game... nice surprise to see these two collaborate...
He stepped out in front of everyone else with his "Houston Kid" album. It's just been straight up to the stratosphere since then.❤️
Every time I watch this video, I am struck by new revelations - excellent job by Rodney, Rosanne, and John Paul. You made it all come together perfectly.
It's OVER FOR GOOD 🖤
A true masterpiece. From melody to lyrics to mood to wisdom, it just all fits together so beautifully. BRAVO!!!
This is one of Rodney's BEST!!! Right there w/Fates Right Hand and I Don't Care Anymore...
It has been said many times, "most men live, lives of quiet desperation" and this song runs along that line of fighting, but never giving up!
Rodney is a true poet. An American treasure ,no doubt.
One of the best songs - ever - with the great Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson's band) on harmonica.
