This is all fine and dandy, but when people say there's no tiers, they're referring to regular Monster Hunter. Speedrunning Monster Hunter isn't regular Monster Hunter, as this game doesn't really reward you for speedrunning. The difference in clear times generally isn't large enough for regular players to care. But yeah there's definitely balance issues, that's nothin' new to Monster Hunter haha
Your argument is this isn't true because good players isn't the same as not good players? There are tiers, it's a fact of life. Every weapon is viable for FUN, but there's a clear effectiveness that denying it is just pointless.
@@TheHeartThatRunsCold By time you've hunted a monster enough to know it's patterns well enough to speedrun it well, you've very likely gotten everything you need from it. Also a hunt taking a bit longer doesn't necessarily mean you're spending more resources.

@@arshadzaidi4667 It depends how you want to play. This is a speedrun tier list not a normal tier list. If you say that Hunting Horn, Lance, etc. are bad because they are bad for speedruns than that means you are probably a bad player. @@jackbordar2727 exactly. Which is why i always say. Yea some weapons are better than others in every aspect...assuming that player playing them plays them to the best of their ability every single time. A master HH player can outplay every weapon on this list if the players playing the listed weapons are slacking. And finally, as you mentioned this is a speedrunning list. Speedrunners go through hella attempts to make one good run (which in turn renders a lot of points in the vid being made about these weapons irrelevant). In real gameplay your skill determines how good a weapon is.
@@jackbordar2727 Bruh what are you talking about? Hunting Horn is objectively worse than pretty much every other weapon. I'm not saying it's unusable, but that doesn't make it a good weapon lol.
Imagine being a MHW player a year ago, and finding out that not only did Spread get _zero_ nerfs in Iceborne, but they also made a Glutton 2.0, a Glutton 3.0, *AND* a Glutton 4.0, each more broken than the last, and they also added Special Scope which gives a 30% damage bonus even though it's already the highest DPS weapon by far without that buff.
Please understand everyone that every single weapon in this game is viable. No single weapon is “bad,” if you can kill a monster without farting every time you walk up to it, then your a true hunter. Even hunting horn does absurd damage if you stack it’s buffs and stun a monster on the noggin. Play your way. Have fun. These are just speedrunning tiers. 👌🏽
As someone who just started making MHW TA videos, this was very interesting to see! I have been playing this game casually since launch so I am looking up any and info to up my hunt, and this was very helpful, even though I don't know how much I will use since I am still just doing it for fun. Still great stuff! Thanks for linking that discord link too!
I wholeheartedly agree with your ranking. It’s a shame so many weapons are so poorly designed or balanced compared to its godly brethren. I especially enjoy hammer too, since it’s just so well designed. All the weapons got some crazy new style in world to adapt to new monsters, which is highly appreciated, but it’s fairly obvious which got more love and which got ignored.
this tier lust show what are the best weapons for speedrun, basically the best for calculated runs, its not like some weapons are bad but the true shine of them is when you play it for fun.
I do agree with your point on IG capcom seems to keep pushing the concept of bringing it to the air for IG when it could do alot on the ground as well.
They'd need a hefty buff for aerial motion values to compete with ground combos. IMO they should buff aerial attacks so elemental IG can actually be viable. Also, maybe extend triple buff time so you don't need to rebuff as often during the fight, on top of managing mantles, sharpness and powders
Okay but capcom shouldn't balance weapons based on speed run times for obvious reasons. A lot of the high tier weapons have a lot of meta involved in their run times and the average person with no grasp of the meta will not perform with those numbers
And you know monster hunter wasn't ever really supposed to be a speed run game. The whole point is to like hunt the monster, not how fast can you kill them.
@@pedrito890 we are getting a buff in iceborn. Though as a hh main I'd say we are just as strong as other weapons. Our self improvement song provides frankly the best skill in the game for no cost

Woth minds eye we dont have to worry about bouncing (so our damage output doesnt slow)and our buffs to ourselves make us outlast every weapon. Just because a weapon doesnt have as high of numbers doesnt mean it isnt strong. We dont rely on charging, stamina, reloading, or any type of meter we are just damage. I play with a chargeblade/gunlance user and a dualie/hbg. While they may get better numbers I can keep the heat on the monster because I don't have to worry about side things they do, the hh gimmick relies on us being up close and personal
I'm sorry. Anyone who says that Lance has low mobility, does not understand or know how to use the Lance. I do agree the Lance does lack in damage though.
Solid tier list. I play over half the weapons in this game and this sums up my results on average pretty well. Though I gotta be in honest in admitting that the real reason I favour GS above all is cause the true charge feels so god damn good to land.
Great video I am so happy with your content, thou there’s one thing I’d point out. You spoke about GS when in reality it’s just Wyvern Impact, the rest of those poor bastards (except a few cases with Anguish) is nowhere close to that powerhouse and when I think that’s just a dlc, man that drives me mad.

Bruh switch axe needs a fat buff. As you said , high risk , low reward. I'm a monster hunter noob , i only played world for like 300 hours. I played through the entire story with switch axe but damn when i made a gun lance and lance i could very easily beat every monster easily, even if it took long , it was a guarantee win.
the damage is fine with SA but some moves need to be more fluid, allow evading between some combos for example, add a guardpoint(its a huge weapon you can gaurd with it right?), SA has a lot of potential but capcom is not giving it enough attention.
Hello. I'm from the future. Clearly TSC made tier list too soon, because he wanted to simp for aerial GS so hard. The reality is HBG is #1, beating aerial GS in almost all cases. Also TSC excluded Behemoth and EX Behemoth, because GS completely sucks at those fights to feed his narrative, while true top tier weapons (HBG and Bow) have no problem killing Behemoth. New HBG rankings, last two for Behemoth: 1/2/1/1/1/1/1 (/2/2)
I main insect glacier, and it’s actually pretty good for airside. As it makes you impossible to hit by ground attacks and makes it incredibly easy to get mounts to do good damage.
we all know what ig can do, this isn't an intro video to what each weapon does. This video is showing what each weapon severely lacks/overtly packs in terms of ability to dish out dmg.
As a GS main since MHFU, I practically shed tears of joy when I realized how easily i could spam the aerial charge. The first time I did a tempered daora in like 6 minutes, I realized how crazy it really was. Also the first time I saw true charge damage, I almost dropped a brick on the spot. And DAT tackle! So happy with the GS changes in this game. With one issue. I need them to fix elemental GS. Right now there's no reason to even use anything other than impact. I miss having tons of builds with different GS based on elemental weakness. I thought maybe we'd get something worthwhile with the KJARR stuff but nope, the GSs don't go to white sharpness, and still need higher elemental values. It's also moronic that there's a cap on elemental attack. Especially for GS which only makes the problem worse. I'm just *sigh* resigned to the fact that I'm gonna be running raw damage for the rest of my life.
I started out in monster hunter 4 ultimate on the 3ds as wanting to be a bow main because the weapon looked so cool, it felt terrible in that game and I quickly switched might pick it up again after watching this vid
Been using great sword since monster hunter 1 on ps2 and have never looked back. Love the new moves they’ve added to it over the years. The best weapon type ever
Yes this is what were lookin for! still i have the opinion i think all weapons have a meta to abuse and make it extremely powerful Keep this kind of stuff comin awesome, too bad i can give only 1 like✌🏽😎
Guys we're talking about speed running here. It's measured how fast you kill a monster with that specific weapon, it doesn't mean that if your weapon of choice is at a lower tier that it's not playable. I use the Greatsword btw and also The Gunlance on different occasions and different monsters. It's the matter of getting the job done and what you enjoy playing.
But he's saying that the balancing of the weapons is bad because the times in speedruns are so drastically different. Which is stupid because of course weapons with insane defense (the 2 lances), insane mobility (glaive) or insane support (horn) will do much less damage than weapons that focus on damage. Although it's true that the ranged weapons are a bit much... But the weapons should never be balanced around speedruns!
As a fact he can't play good the first time just saw a speedryn from nergigante was from a Japanese gun lance player tempered in 2 minutes. Also most speed runners can't adapt very well and need perfect conditions. Plus many of them suck in multy and get carted many more times than they should be.
But it takes time to master the weapon. You basically exchange your mobility and dexterity into high amount of damage output. Unlike its virgin brother the long sword
"A game is no fun if it's fair." -Masahiro Sakurai (creator of Super Smash Bros.) What he means is that if everything was balanced, then the game would just become boring and the same throughout.
Yeah but this is a pve game. We don't even compare between weapon classes. Being unbalanced doesn't bring any fun into the table. *cries in Hunting Horn
Huh As a Greatsword main, I 1. Didn't realize that it's airial attacks were so OP 2. Was expecting to be really low, since it is one of the slowest weapons in the game (especially if you miss)
Great video. If you make similar ranking videos in the future I'd put them on the chart left to right since the second you did insect glaive I knew the next 3 weapons were all going into E tier since there were 3 spaces open. Takes some of the fun of the reveal away.
Those nerfs are pretty said in my opinion. Decoration wise, the bow is by far the most expensive weapon in the game. You need a different bow for each element. Dash juice is a requirement. You have to have precise aim. Constant stamina management. It deserves to be the damage beast it is. It t is the only weapon I know how to play
Capitan Unique agree, I had a 4 box 1 faint tempered Luna - killed her in under 4 minutes with a good HH user in the group. 3 faint regular Luna - triple cart within 3 minutes without HH
Quality content. I chuckled on the "misinformed community". Thanks a bunch for taking the time to make another informative video. Looking forward to the next. Cheers!
This is an interesting list to be sure, but your judgments on the weapon balance is super off in my opinion. Weapons are not balanced around highest possible DPS and speedrunning is not the core game play loop of any MH. For a weapon to be useful it's more important how consistently you'll win each hunt and not how further you can push the any percent goal.
@@MrButz Yeah but some of the wording makes it come off as if he's talking about regular hunts, especially that description. I don't think I've ever seen anyone try to argue that Monster Hunter speedruns don't have tiers.
@@MrButz I care about that because there are people who take this kind of talk and use it to shame others for their weapon choice, that's my only concern. Dude already pinned a comment pointing out that that's not what people should take from this, so it's fine. Still, never seen anyone saying that tiers don't exist in speedruns, no idea why that's in the description.
what killed MHW for me were the playstyles of all these weapons. One of the biggest things that I enjoyed in MH is slowly getting better and improving my own match-ups with the monsters, building hyper-specialized sets for monster or even quest. But in World, the optimal playstyles for half of the weapons are just incredibly boring. For GS you just spammed the shoulder cancel and finisher, for CB you just spammed SAED, for LS you just spammed the counter and the jumping move, for SnS you spammed one move, ect. The only weapons whose changes were interesting or fun were Lance, Hammer and Bow. Every other weapon had a moveset that seemed like it was built around one big move and everything you did was just so that eventually you could do that move. It wasn't interesting moveset design, and it made a lot of the fights just devolve into positioning for a stunlock and spamming the same thing over and over. And this isn't even mentioning jump attack gimmicks. Don't even get me started on the mantles. I don't know which person over at Capcom decided that making tools that just play the game for you was interesting. You don't feel like a hunter anymore, you feel like a demigod. Even in MHXX/GU, with all the ridiculously over the top hunter arts and styles that feeling of fighting something equal or stronger than you was still there. In MHW, you are just bullying every monster.
As a casual player I enjoyed the video. I'm afraid you missed a major opportunity though, the sensation of these tier list is to watch you sort a random assortment to keep the viewer watching. Instead it was pre-determined and sorted sequentially so I could've just skipped to the end. Hopefully that made sense
I get what you getting at here, but I feel that you have greatly misrepresented the weapons here. I get that for speedrunning they aren’t balanced, but they’re not MADE specifically for speedruns. Many that are low ranked are for support, therefore multiplayer which just doesn’t apply. You’re way to hard on the dev team, because you’re only seeing it from one perspective. Just my opinion though.
Vietnam Gamer It’s not that he ‘misinterpreted’ the weapons, rather, he is simply looking at the damage output and speed running potential of solo hunts. He explicitly stated that this tier list was created by how useful it would be in a speed running hunt, not by its usage in a multiple-player environment. That is why weapons such as Insect Glaive and Hunting Horn are so low on the list, because the list itself focuses on damage output rather than potential in a teamed hunt. Insect Glaive, for example, would be much more useful in a teamed hunt, as it allows for healing buffs for players and has mounting capabilities, but would not be a suitable weapon for damage dealing in a solo hunt. Long Sword, however, would be much lower on the list, as it’s capabilities would be useless in comparison to Great Sword, who deals more damage overall. If the listing of the weapons had been generally, I would normally agree. It is just that this list was not created to rank the weapons based off of a normal hunt’s environment, but rather, how they fare in a solo-hunt based on damage output.
This game is so unique that all weapons are being utilized. LS may be the most popular, but i can see HH, SA, CB, DB, and even SnS in random sos. Maybe it appeals to each hunters personality or how they want to play the game.
*before watching the video* Me: Bet HH is the worst TSC: Hunting Horn is the worst Me: ayyyyyyy Still my fav to use in World. Monster Hunter games never had any semblance of balance and I kinda love them for that.
as HBG main, i hate on how accurate this video. bowgun suppose to be have may different playstyle on killing each monster because of different ammo they can shot. previous monster hubter does that. pellet for killing zinogre, pierce for killing akantor, etc. but not in world. if you want to kill monster fastest way possible, you need glutton, and glutton only. you dont have glutton? better not using HBG for speed run. that is sad harsh truth about HBG in MHW
The contrast of non-TA and TA is big. The biggest factor is that the weapon that good have a knack for trading damage for mobility or guard or whatever survivalbility perform worse in this category. For example Insect Glaive and Great Sword are probably flip the position in TA run as seen in Extremoth list or how the bow doesn't lead other weapon by landslide. Still, it's very crazy that even in non-TA SwAxe perform this bad despite the dps that it could output.
@@tazttyyy687IG ain't bad in TA... at least not second to last place bad. mhw.wiki-db.com/solota/quest/122 Also, what I mean about bow is that in TA it seem to ahead of other weapon by land slide.
One thing I'd be very curious to see is a full game speedrun. From character creation to Xeno'Jiiva. Minimal weapon and armor grinding in a rush to the credits. It'd probably be like a 10 hour minimum speedrun so I doubt anyone would do it. But in that scenario I've always wondered what weapon class people would try and go for the most.

For example if the monster is stunned most people will run up to the monster and use sword mode on the head or tail, but I honestly think there are far more options
- tenderise a part and slice with sword mode
-switch into axe mode and use that move were you constantly swing our axe(this is actually your best move for stun and part damage and is actually really effective)
-you can clutch onto face and use a fake ZSD to build up sword gauge and then use a real ZSD(ZSD the move were you stab into the monster and do you stongest attack)
I mean that’s just some thing I thought of rn but there are actually a lot more options that I’m sure a swaxe main can think of. My point is for speed runs this weapon is good at best if you don’t know how to use the weapon, but if you know what your doing I’ll argue it’s the best in the game, and probably consists of the most skilled hunters imo
Nice video! I knew GS would be S tier cause I’ve seen all your aerial kills.
This game does reward you for speed clearing. You get to your rewards faster, and spend less resources per hunt.
@@TheHeartThatRunsCold By time you've hunted a monster enough to know it's patterns well enough to speedrun it well, you've very likely gotten everything you need from it. Also a hunt taking a bit longer doesn't necessarily mean you're spending more resources.
@@thatrandomguyo1 I literally said there are weapon balance issues, but the difference isn't large enough to people just playing the game normally. The clear time difference is generally at most, a few extra minutes as far as I can tell. I never denied that there are tiers, I'm explaining what people mean when they say that.
Some goon head Mmmm
Good video ! The way u explain it + the thing that the Video "Overlay" is pretty easy to understand and well designed. Very good job ^^
Great vid. Like many people say, completing hunts and having fun is really what matters unless you are a dedicated speed runner.
Pretty solid video TSC. It is incredibly detailed and straight to the point. As a LS/HH main, everything was accurate.
Literally every weapon im interested in were in E & F Tier......
@@holukisp-9088 Nah they are bad, just doesn't mean that you can't play them.
@@arshadzaidi4667 It depends how you want to play. This is a speedrun tier list not a normal tier list. If you say that Hunting Horn, Lance, etc. are bad because they are bad for speedruns than that means you are probably a bad player. Do you even know how many times speedruner have to reset the quest because they failed.

11:43 if even mods can make a good glav great sword it should not be that hard capcom
Great vid love how u showed each ranking for each monster
Please understand everyone that every single weapon in this game is viable. No single weapon is “bad,” if you can kill a monster without farting every time you walk up to it, then your a true hunter. Even hunting horn does absurd damage if you stack it’s buffs and stun a monster on the noggin. Play your way. Have fun. These are just speedrunning tiers. 👌🏽
you,re right, but I'm triggered by the fact that he called the switch axe a butchered long sword
Also just noticed I said farting instead of carting feelsbadman
As someone who just started making MHW TA videos, this was very interesting to see! I have been playing this game casually since launch so I am looking up any and info to up my hunt, and this was very helpful, even though I don't know how much I will use since I am still just doing it for fun. Still great stuff! Thanks for linking that discord link too!
As a main dooter I can confirm it sucks for speedrunning unfortunately but for everything else it's fun.
Boooow poooowaaaa !
Good video ^^
I wholeheartedly agree with your ranking. It’s a shame so many weapons are so poorly designed or balanced compared to its godly brethren. I especially enjoy hammer too, since it’s just so well designed.
All the weapons got some crazy new style in world to adapt to new monsters, which is highly appreciated, but it’s fairly obvious which got more love and which got ignored.
this tier lust show what are the best weapons for speedrun, basically the best for calculated runs, its not like some weapons are bad but the true shine of them is when you play it for fun.
Its nice to see the greatsword has been considered one of the top tier weapons ever since the first game
Wish that happened with more weapons. Most of the low tier weapons used to be godly, until capcom ruined them.
Nice!!! i main Bow and GS so I'm very happy with the rankings, but i have told myself I'm going to main HH in icebourne... oh god hahaha :P Great vid!
The whole point is to like hunt the monster, not how fast can you kill them.
okay but please buff my hunting horn bois

Just because a weapon doesnt have as high of numbers doesnt mean it isnt strong. We dont rely on charging, stamina, reloading, or any type of meter we are just damage. I play with a chargeblade/gunlance user and a dualie/hbg. While they may get better numbers I can keep the heat on the monster because I don't have to worry about side things they do, the hh gimmick relies on us being up close and personal

Well yeah, speedrunning is about killing monsters fast, not about impressing some kid on the internet.

“A surprise but a welcome one to be sure” -a great sword user
It also depends on your playstyle, I am used to defeating nergigante 10 minute using dual blade, but it takes me 15-20m with great sword
This was really well done, awesome man!
The insect glaive and switch axe are still my favorite weapons. 😝
I agree with about every single placement except cb I have gotten insanely fast speed run times with it and I think it has deserved at least a teir. Btw awesome vid.
Well, those times aren't as good as the ones with other weapons. Chargeblade just isn't as fast against at elders as some other weapons.
I’ve been playing great sword since MH4 - World and I haven’t regretted a single second of it
I couldn’t agree with you more on that number one spot.
You don't know a weapon and yet you place it on the list based on, I don't know, intuition? Amazing work!
I was surprised when switch axe was so low... i just started using it in the end game and i fuck some monsters up...
Gunlance.......i swear i've heard that before.....
isn't that the cursed child that got abandoned my mama Capcom in MH3????
Damn this video is so clean, nice tsc
Thanks brother
Both my favorite weapons are the lowest tiers? Damn, okay then. Still love them though. Much more fun lol.
The IG vs GS is just “the real raven” meme for aerial weapons.
It's a very different order of the list once you look at true TA rules and not the any% speedrunning.
"Slow and steady win the race" is the modus operandi of the Lance.

Great video mate. Here's hoping Hammer will be the real KO king in Iceborne. GS looks nuts and hopefully SA's buffs work out well.
Bow KO got massive nerf in beta
Hammer now has the... uh Spinning meteor (can't remember the World name haha, it's the charge 3 hammer idle R2 attack) + clutch claw combo.
What was the first bow you were using? Looks sick
Words can not describe how happy I am seeing Great Sword on top
To be fair, it's all thanks to the aerial "exploit", which is getting nerfed in IB
Qsdfgh true that’s why it’s in S tier
Yes this is what were lookin for! still i have the opinion i think all weapons have a meta to abuse and make it extremely powerful
Keep this kind of stuff comin awesome, too bad i can give only 1 like✌🏽😎
Aerial Hunting Horn abuse meta.
It's literally in the name.
GREAT-sword.
It's a great sword to use for speedrunning
But it takes time to master the weapon. You basically exchange your mobility and dexterity into high amount of damage output. Unlike its virgin brother the long sword
"A game is no fun if it's fair." -Masahiro Sakurai (creator of Super Smash Bros.)
What he means is that if everything was balanced, then the game would just become boring and the same throughout.
Yeah but this is a pve game. We don't even compare between weapon classes. Being unbalanced doesn't bring any fun into the table.

Those nerfs are pretty said in my opinion. Decoration wise, the bow is by far the most expensive weapon in the game. You need a different bow for each element. Dash juice is a requirement. You have to have precise aim. Constant stamina management.

Pretty accurate list. I'd probably make it the same if I did it based on non-ta runs.
Well presented and written video!
what killed MHW for me were the playstyles of all these weapons.
But bro what bow were you using? That looked epic. How you get it???
I figured out his bow, he's using a Nexus mod (PC only) and it is a magic bow effect (Dante effect)
Dang that sucks PC only :/

This list doesn't surprise me too much, though I didn't expect sns to be above SA and lance. Good job with the list.
Pretty accurate, but as a main Lance main I'll keep speedruning with it ^^. (Hopefully butthurt fanboys will understand the true point of this video.)
Yeah this video is just to show weapon time disparity. In reality weapons don't compete with each other in speedruns.
my mains insect glaive and swagaxe :( capcom hate them
Insect Glaive still perform well in TA run. It just has less mechanic to abused than other weapon.
Oof Insect Glaive really derived from its roots of being OP as fuck
I get what you getting at here, but I feel that you have greatly misrepresented the weapons here. I get that for speedrunning they aren’t balanced, but they’re not MADE specifically for speedruns. Many that are low ranked are for support, therefore multiplayer which just doesn’t apply. You’re way to hard on the dev team, because you’re only seeing it from one perspective.
Just my opinion though.
Vietnam Gamer
It’s not that he ‘misinterpreted’ the weapons, rather, he is simply looking at the damage output and speed running potential of solo hunts.

They nerfed the crap out of pierce ammo and element ammo that it not worth using them in term of damage compare to the Spread shot...
Agree a lot with the video but one thing, you dont balance the game around speed run.

One thing I'd be very curious to see is a full game speedrun. From character creation to Xeno'Jiiva. Minimal weapon and armor grinding in a rush to the credits.
