      @@JuanDale Would be interesting to hear more common drum patterns & mellow synth sounds with reverb if thats possible 😇

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alecyuzhny It can do that to a small degree, but that would be a narrow imposition on its design philosophy. If that's what you're looking for, I'd recommend something with a step sequencer.

    • @alecyuzhny

      @@JuanDale Yeah sure, I understand this design decision (and I already talked with the creator of Czochralski via email about that) but for example Pulsar 23 from Soma is also pretty complex machine that designed with experimental approach in mind, but now we see how in the hands of techno artists like Surgeon it become a sound machine for techno sets and it works amazing. I see this as a spectacular box full of sounds and it can be both abstract and more rhythmic and also mellow at the same time as i hear those oscillators - they sound amazing and musical. Would be interesting to hear that if I am right. But I could be wrong :) there a lot of sequencers available on the market to sequence that, I am sure its not a problem.

    Have you ever tried using the 3.5mm sync in the pulse network? If so, what's that do?

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RickyTinez It's the "enable" pin for the multiplexor, whenever it receives a logic high, the pulse network will be active. If you use triggers, it functions as a clock input for the pattern generated by the pulse network.
      I don't really use it because I'm specifically interested in the un-clocked weirdness, but if you're interested in making it behave, that's one way. The problem for me is that the patterns are still a result of the inputs to the pulse network, and doesn't really afford you more control of the pattern generated. When I want more control, I just use a Beatstep Pro to manually trigger the voices individually. Knowledge is power, PEACE. ✌️

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JuanDale ah! that makes sense and also answers my fear of the pattern being basically a step by step trigger.
      I instead went Sync'd LFOs from Maestro (eurorack), plus the LFOs from Cells. Most sounds triggered on the beat but sprinkles of wild LFO triggered sounds. It's a fun weird ass box haha!

    ayo juan i had mine for a little bit and have a q for u. I can't quite figure out the follow inputs on the drum cells, do u have an explanation that's better than the manual's "allows more than just pulse". I've been using it as basic fm i guess for now.

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like it acts like FM at sub audio frequencies, but like a sync voltage follower at audio rates, meaning an LFO will modulate the pitch, whereas an audio-rate signal will lock the drum cell oscillator to that frequency . He wasn't very clear when I asked in an email either, I think he likes the mystery. It seems like the pot adjusts from exponential through linear to logarithmic, but I don't really know. You can hear the pot scaling the incoming CV, but I haven't done any super specific testing. Just try putting different stuff in it and see what happens.
      One of my newfound favorite uses is syncing the oscillators in some configuration and sending oscillators to the drum voices Z input, then modulating the oscillators' frequencies with a sequence (Benjolin in my case). This makes it so that everything is "in-tune." With the CC's potential for rhythmic complexity, having a unified sequence modulating all the different voices helps tie it all together in a way that makes it sound much more cohesive. You'll hear this in my next video.
      Thanks for hanging!

      ooo thank you for the advice@@JuanDale . i think i have a couple quirks, like the sample/hold input and clock seemed to be switched, and for some reason gate one near the bottom right just outputs to phaser 2 without gating...im not an electronics/solderer person so i can live with it, but did u find anything like that on yours? otherwise this thing is magic

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@memorycurse1342 I did. I had sent mine back for a switch and VCA that hadn't survived the trip across the pond and Kirkis covered return shipping and fixed it quick. I'd send him an email. But yeah, when I got it back, a couple of things were switched but it hasn't bothered me too much.

    have you managed a way to learn the inputs - outputs or you always need to refer to the manual ?

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Every control and jack is very clearly labeled. It took me about two days of short practice sessions to have it committed to memory. The weird layout is actually helpful because it's not a grid, which makes it harder for me. Additionally, every input is a white jack and every output is a color.

    Thanks. Helps a lot. Wondering how the external clock in (on the side) effects the pulse network or what external clock divisions into the pulse network would do (like from CGS pulse divider on Serge SWAMP panel, or synced/reset LFOs). I realize the idea is non-standard pattern creation but wondering if it's possible to create something more predictable to build craziness on top of. Either way, fun machine!

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! I also wondered the same when I got it.
      It's actually a 3.5mm jack next to the pulse network inputs on the front panel. Turns out it just syncs the resulting gate patterns while the modulation sources continue doing their own thing, which means that the gates will be aligned to the clock, but the pattern will follow the waxing and waning of the modulation sources. You could however use external modulation sources sync'ed to the same clock into the pulse network to generate the patterns, which would create more stable patterns.
      What I do when I want to involve external stuff is just use the Square wave output from one of the LFOs to clock the external gear, like I was doing with the Serge in the patches section. This way, I still get the wonky rhythms and patterns, but I can sync external sources to whichever subdivision depending on which LFO I use to sync the external stuff. This feels like the best of both worlds to me.
      Cheers! Thanks for stopping by!

    Interesting synth idea, but that layout just kills me eyes. If you like unpredictable bizarro results this could be fun, but I think if you want to do something intentional with sound this probably isn't the kit you want.

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My opinion is that intentionality is the quickest route to boring results, at least in my experience. The beauty of devices like this is that it functions as an extension of your cognition, you develop new ways of thinking about, processing, and creating music, which for me is the goal. Top-down composition has been beat to death for the entire history of humanity and John Cage was onto something with indeterminacy.

      Well yeah where is it still musical? This looks like some kind of out of control chaotic knot. Didn't hear one musical note in there. Rythmically the same.. nothing interesting. Unless u'r into taming beasts.. this might your kind of kit. 🤣

    I can't say thatbI find it intuitive of musical. The layout also kills my OCD.

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for hanging out! It's not immediately intuitive, but I developed muscle memory very quickly and haven't referenced the manual since two days after receiving it. I must have whatever the opposite of OCD is, I love the layout. I find it much easier to remember control and jack placement when the layout is unique; I get lost and confused with a grid.

    If someone gave me a new car, and the controls to that car looked as mish/mash as this "drum machine" - I'm pretty sure I'd be dead in the first hour of use... NAh, I'll pass.

    Honestly, that is a terrible laid out Synth. Even the markings don't align with any of the hardware or controls. And it's all just mathematics equations

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว

      All the controls and jacks are labeled, it's just pretty small. If you look in the closeup shots, you can see them. The mathematics stuff is just design. Personally, an unconventional design and layout has the benefit of pulling me out of habits and old patterns, and I find that inspiring. To each their own.

      @@cray56 Awesome! I want the 16 Psyche so fucking bad. It seems like it's a texture monster. The CC is perfectly capable as a drone machine in addition to the obvious drum stuff (in fact I'm on the couch exploring some drone stuff with it now), but I think that's more of the 16's bag. The drum voices in CC have to be triggered, so you're kind of limited to the 4 oscillators for droning texture stuff. There are more utilities in the 16 as well. Kirkis stealth uploaded a couple videos a week or two ago that show them used together. Channel name is D3000.

    I try my best to avoid modules in eurorack where the knobs are this close together because I find them really annoying to use.

    • @JuanDale
      @JuanDale  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a couple tight spots for sure, but I have small fingers so it doesn't bother me. The knobs on this are a grippy rubber, so it's easy to just use one finger on the side of the knob, which is what I often do.
