The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is a Fun New EV | MotorWeek Road Test

  • If there was anything good to come from Volkswagen’s 2015 Dieselgate scandal, it’s that the brand quickly committed to stop making diesel and gasoline engines for passenger cars all together, and take the brand fully electric. Well before the many brands who are making that commitment now. Well first all-new effort to come from that strategy is here, the ID.4.

      Lol... At least it is not a Volvo, Jaguar or Range Rover... or, dare I say, Tesla... Some VW are ok, I’ve had good and bad ones. I also had issues with a Toyota I had... None is perfect. But I have to say that my Honda and Subaru are almost un breakable... And that is really the reason I haven’t jumped on the EV wagon yet.

    Nice looking ev with reasonable accommodations and ok range. It would be a decent city car, but with the pricing though, I would rather buy a Prius or Corolla hybrid at the lower price range or a Rav4 hybrid/prime at the upper range...just my preference. Of course that's if any those Toyotas are even available.

    From this reviews I have seen from The Roadasow and Doug DeMuro (to name a few review this car the ID4 is not ready for primetime. Laggy head unit, added muscle memory to to press a button for the rear windows that MotorWeek forgot to mention.
    What about a spare tire? That is a huge problem among other issues that EVs have.

    • @RonRattie
      @RonRattie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The laggy infotainment software can be fixed with OTA updates, oh no.. having to learn the physical controls in a new car... I've only ever used a spare tire once in 30 years of driving and that was over 20 years ago. I've driven the ID.4 and it worked fine for me and when I used it there wasn't a noticeable lag in the screen.

      2. You can plug it outside in any weather conditions.
      3. The 7 hours on a level 2 charger is something you would do after you get home from work (eat and sleep, etc..)
      4. It comes with 3 years of free charging from Electrify America which you find at an ever increasing number of Walmarts, Targets, Sheetz, Wawa, etc... so you can charge it to full while grocery or other shopping.
