Thanks Jamey for the handshake at the place in Portland about 10 years ago with the hippy chick meant more to me than you know
When this song came out my best friend at the time told me this song was written just for me. I laughed at the time, now I break down every time I hear it. Been in this colder prison for 14 years
❤ I have 11 years of sobriety!! 12/12/12 But every day is just 1 day it's time.
Story of my life!!!
20 months and 3 days sober, thank God for the love of a woman to get my head out of my ass. I did indeed squander my chance with her but her influence saved my life!
Plenty of regrets but damn it feels good to be sober. !
To all who struggle, it isn't easy but its worth it. !
Hang in there bro.... Better days is on the way....👍
@@stevemartin164...I believe that sir! Thank you.
You got that right. Not easy at all
The woman I mentioned in this statement has JUST now started messaging me again, after 2 years of sobriety. It has been a slow, tedious process but OMG, it has been SO worth it. It's proof that it works.!!!!!
0:11 Absolutely true that only if I could only find that true lady to put me in my place plus I'm still working on learning my place when it comes to a woman frfr
This song hit home so hard that I cry every time I listen to it. I'm a recovering meth addict, clean just 6 months. It cost me my children, my marriage, my career as a nurse and everything else that I held dear. If you're a recovering addict, you're NOT alone!! By God's hand and the love of my children I am still alive.
I have done cocaine many times in a church parking lot in between my home and my friends lake front home he had at 18 years of age. We always stopped there to get our fill before we walked into his lake house where the party was waiting. Thank God I got away from the coke thatedto smoking crack snorting lines while waiting to hit the pipe again and using oxycontin as a crutch in between buying my cocaine.
Thank you ❤️
I’m teary eyed listening to it, for my brother is the addict & seems no way of helping, & I watch him barely live and he has a 7 year old son who is gonna he questioning it soon:( please pray for Michael
@@megancourtneyy I guess the thank you was for me. You are welcome
God bless you, I hope your still doing well, in this day.
Lost my dad from cocaine laced fentanyl in August, he struggled with addiction my whole life. Using, In and out of jail and prison. I love him tremendously regardless unconditionally. Growing up it was just us. Him and me. This was the last song we ever listened to together, I put it on and told him it was his song. He cried. I used with him as a teenager, but I have been clean 16 years now. I stopped the cycle.
Awesome brother, 1 day at a time.....
I'm a retired cop things aren't right I'm so sorry about your dad. Love prayers for you and your family
Awesome good luck in life and continue to keep those memories alive
👍
He's watching you, and he's proud as fuck that you did what he couldn't. Sorry for your loss friend
It’s beautiful to live without substances. To all my recovering addicts. Stay strong. Love you all.

Anyone who has lived inside themselves drunk, high or completely sober and never touched a drug or drink, can feel this song.
Hell Yeah! Brother I feel ya.
I have pent my life on the wild side locked up and locked up again trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm not a bad man, i just never liked authority on matters that didn't agree with me. And all of you are going to agree with this someday.
@@lynnlawrence1979 I can understand your pain. I try to live like there's no tomorrow because we really don't know what's in our future. just stay true to yourself and enjoy life.
@@MrBReal-xc7qm1979 was a great year
Yep,if never hit rock bottom you haven't lived
I'm here for the comments, I'm leaning on them for support right now. My husband in bad shape and I'm hanging on to God. This song 🎵 is it. I'm speaking for him. Cause I know. I see myself falling back into drinking but knowing I'm not alone pulls me thru. THANK YOU JAMEY JOHNSON AND FANS. I needed this. ❤ much love and prayers for all.
Stay strong if not for yourself then your loved ones. Easy to say a real bitch to live. Been where you’re at it isn’t easy.
Hang in there
Just a suggestion that worked for me, turn the lights off and let your mind go ........before you know it you calm yourself down get some sleep or at least rest and help reset my mind....good luck I'm praying for you both.....God bless
You have to do the things you do not want to do before a miracle can happen.
Miracles do happen.
From a former alcoholic/addict.
12 Step programs can help and do help some sometimes even saving lives but you have to do the things you don't want to do.

Another night, another town, another hotel, and another 8 ball and beer
My brother in law listened to this song religiously before he passed. He was my best friend and hunting buddy. A lot of drugs and memories stem from songs like this. Not one day passes that I don’t think about him. Miss him like crazy and sometimes I wish we could kick it just one more day. RIP Josh love and miss you brother!
I'm hitting the 9 month mark oof being clean. I have stepped off the wagon 1 time in that 9 months. I. Don't know why butthe other day I prayed to God all day long. I had never had an urge for it like that. I didn't leave the house that day. I was afraid to I need PRAYERS. THANKYOU IN ADVANCE

Jamey Johnson is doing something right . A fresh breath of something original in country / rock/ blues////the real thing . Best one Ive heard since Hank JR.
bad ass song such a motivator
ever since Stapleton did that black Lives Matter concert, I've lost all respect.

This song is so true. I'm 26 years and I'm still repairing all the damage I did to myself from years of using and dealing. everyday sober is one small step to victory.

Good job brother!!!
jimmy spencer i got about the same number of years in. I just wanted to say congratulations man.
My dad just recently lost his battle to addiction and this was one of his favorite songs. I didn’t really realize it as a kid when he would play it, but this song was basically the soundtrack to his life. I miss you old man. 46 is too young
I'm 64 years old. I've cooked N labor everything you can imagine, been sober for quite some time now, thanks to jesus N his father. Been on life support 3 times and lost half a lung. BIG awakening

I'm 72years old and I got clean and sober 17years ago and with the help of my Higher Power I hope to stay that way for whatever time I have left
Sober for 17 years. Started in AA. I did not want to hear anything about the Bible. After a few years, much to my surprise, I asked my Savior Jesus Christ into my life. Saved my marriage, my family and my life. He is the true Redeemer. Never say never.
Amen, I'm proud of all of you who has successfully quit, vand proud of you all, who at least tried, God Bless you all, my self included, still trying😥

I've struggled with addiction for 42 years and when I heard this song, it sounderd like my life story. At 54 i decided to get straight and life my life free instead of chained to dope. This song helps me remember where i came from. Thanks man. Life is good.
Congratulations! I promise you life is so much better without drugs in your life! I know it's a struggle. I do truly understand. Takes a lot of courage to write the comment you wrote. God bless and stay strong
Yea but did you.
I hope it took. PRAY !
Hey I just seen this . it looks like there is another one of me ..so my I ask u how u are doing these days?
Life in focus, is just dreams without love.
This song is so much more than just the cost of living high. Just living is real enough
This song has helped me so many times. Whenever I want to use, I turned it on and think about everything I losed, and if I did use everything I will lose in my life. Proud to say i am clean today.
Jayda I wrote you to Show futures
Be strong 💪 i believe in you!!
YOU WANNA GO PARTY?
your comment is the most honest one that I've read on this song everything we do in life is a choice we choose to do what we do every action has a reaction thank you for being honest 👍✌
Jeez those drugs must have gone straight for your vocabulary
I know it's going to be a long hard Road, but this song is going to get me sober. God bless you Jamey Johnson for singing this song. It is going to help me and many others along their way. Thank you my brother.
Buddy, let me tell ya. I struggled with an addiction for the better part of twenty years and quit cold turkey. If I can do it, anybody can. Been clean going on 5 years this September. You got this brother.
Much love brother
i wish u success & sobriety & life & love .. GOD keep u

Stay strong brother. Every time something hits home youll get a lil stringer lil more ballsyou could say. Before u know it youllbe squaling. I feel you 💯 been there. You are worth it believe that
The line this prison is much colder than the one that I was locked up in just yesterday.... Is one of the truest lines spoken or sung... Thank God i don't live that life anymore. It was a rough road to recovery but so grateful to be clean and sober. Forgot how good life really is when i was in the midst of addiction and chaos. 6 years and the rest of my life to go taking it one day at a time.
you'll make it Andrea one day at a time. God is Good.
I'm listening to all of you guys and I even believe how much I can relate to you and your words, I'm still struggling with a nasty little opioid habet, I realize I spelled it wrong, who gives a shit RIGHT? It seems like I've been addicted to something my entire life, but I'm not given up, I'll get there, it helps a great deal knowing there other people who can relate to my struggle, Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!!
Bipateebopateeboo..u my freebird I'm ur booter who 🎨
Yes it is !
As soon as Jesus turned his back I'd find my way across the tracks looking just to score another deal...
literally the story of my life , i lost it all April 10th 2003 in Columbus Ohio....finally got home August 2012 , so ive been sober since April 10th 2003 and never going back across those tracks again ever ! Federal prison wasnt easy but like he said " the high cost of living aint nothing like living high " and so you have all the time to sit and think about all the things i had and threw away....i made it , i paid the price but i made it....leave that shit alone
4 months sober. 15 years lost. I have lost many friends and family. Praying that someone or something would take me out. But something has kept me in this world.
th-cam.com/video/KMn5sLegqo4/w-d-xo.html
Can I get an update? You still sober?
Adonai has kept you in this world. Sometimes we have to go through struggles and hardship. I have found almost all of us that have struggled with addiction is because we have been battling something broken inside of us. With Elohim, our creator. We can heal and our God needs us to help each other. That's why we are still here. After I lost my Dad, husband and sister in nine months, all I did was pray for God to let me go to sleep and never wake up. That wasn't His plan. We have to lay it at His feet. He has a plan for everyone of us. It's His will not ours. He will reveal that plan to you. You are so very important, that's why He created you. Lean on Him. I blamed myself for my husband's death. I couldn't except that he overdosed and I started doing meth at 45. I recently got out of prison, was down for a year. I've been sober for 15 months. It's wonderful, I'm high on life because I forgave myself and quit blaming myself. The key ...learn how to love yourself. He created you and that means you are precious. My prayers to you for healing.
I love the comments reminds me of how I used to be. Never had probation went straight to prison at 24 1st case 9 years for an OZ. Long road 17 years of my adult life in prison. I’m not big on using the words clean, sober for myself. I changed my life for 13 years and well, hit me by surprise. I want to be like all of you again. I read the comments to think harder about where my life is right now. Hopefully one of these days I’ll get back on track. I’m in a bad way, pretty broken. Too much has happened this past 6 years. I’m trying to make sense of it all. I will get it together again, I’ve got to. I have 2 Harleys collecting dust. I just want to wake up one day and not hurt so much. Thanks for listening
Just letting you know someone out here is listening.
The Holy Spirit, is in all of us! We only have to listen, more importantly, have faith ! God promises a good life for all ! Never did he say , a good life would be easy ! I have lost so much as well! In reality , it has been, a pretty blessed life ! Unfortunately, I realized, what I had to late ! With forgiveness and faith , press on ! A simple life is a blessing! ❤ hang in there , we are , are worst enemies!
Had someone very dear to me that lived this life , he even sent me this song ...
I loved him but we lived totally different lifestyles . He recently passed away at the young age of 52 ... Now , today this song hits my heart just a bit harder . I'll forever miss him !
Sober he was one hell of a man 💗
Lost my girlfriend at 44 I hate drugs I miss my her so bad
Lost mine at 55.
Was his name kevin?
I listen to this song everyday to remind me of everything that I lost while using. I had a family a business and a comfortable living.. I passed it all away until I was homeless for 3 years. Then I heard this song I'm coming up a have an apartment, a car, and I'm building a new business that has been strong for a year now. I used to say you don't have to be perfect to be a perfect solution, you just have to show up. I'm glad I showed up. The perfect solution wasn't me, it was Jamey Johnson with this song and the man will never know it. So show up. You may not ever know but you are someone's perfect solutions. Thanks for the personal stories it makes the day start off great knowing there are so many of us getting through the day together. Keep showing up and keep crushing your demons.
For real! Got 18 years of being clean and sober. God's grace is good!
@Mr Sunshines you ashole if he wants to believe in god that is his constitutional right plus it helps try it
@Mr Sunshines i understand that is your opinion and have no way to prove otherwise but im not trying to force anything upon you like you are in atheism
@Mr Sunshines lol no i think youre just running your mouth like a coward
It's truly a blessing to have survived living like that back in the day. Not everyone has a chance to survive. Thank you my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for pulling me out of that living hell. Amen➕📖
Very few of us live long enough to tell the tail of surviving addiction! Keep on surviving! Spread the word, one day at a time!
I cried at least the first 10 times i listened to this song. It hit home hard. That phrase is too true, that life will absolutely cost you everything and I do mean everything. For me it was Opana, Fentanyl, and Adderall for 10 years, but March 22nd will be 3 years since I have done a pill and it feels awesome to be able to say that!
My son was a heroin addict for years and OD and almost died 2 times. So I can relate in a small way to what you went through... The public is stupid about this stuff. They think all you have to do is have enough willpower and you are done. And maybe you did... good for you. But my son required rehad…. otherwise he would be dead. Willpower is part, but it is much bigger than just willpower. I am proud of you Jesse. Don't ever fuck with drugs EVEN a single time or the monkey will be back. The only outcome of these drugs is misery and eventually death. Seriously don't even experiment for a single time. You are sober now, stay sober. DONT FUCK WITH FENTANYL LACED HEROIN EVER AGAIN. GOD BLESS
Adderall and opiates? Pick a lane lol.
@@chucktyson9688 except for all those totally successful people who party yet maintain a normal existence. They exist too. We should celebrate them as well. Lots of different people living lots of different ways. None are "wrong" just misguided maybe.
asesome, bud
Fentanyl, opanas, heroin, coke meth xanax valium alcohol pot, if it fucked me up I did it. I used to bitch about being sober. Now I watch my beautiful 3 yr old boy run happy through the house, and that's the best high ever
#JameyJohnson I did not know he sang this but he has an absolutely beautiful unique voice
I love it and he is a great songwriter a #God given talent and you're right the cost of living continues to rise some may not like it and some may but I'm an extreme conservative
thank you for your music 🎶🎵
And may #God bless you and yours in #Jesus #Christ name 🙏🏽
Proud that my town (Des Moines Iowa) was able to host the filming of this masterpiece. Respect Jamey
Your town, lol..
Dez moynez! erbondelay!
Wished I'd listened to this song sooner. But I found Christ in 2019. I've still struggled with some fake representatives of his since then, but I know what it is now. God bless you all.
Keep in mind we're all imperfect sinners...Christian or not. Don't be discouraged by those who don't live like Christ. You might be who God is using to convict them of their own sin by your example.
Believe in yourself and your own strength. That's what pulls you back. He's just watching you from the sidelines. If you stumble, he'll catch you. You can do anything if you really are ready for it
In one way, shape or form, we've all lived it, with drugs, alcohol or just trying to keep up with the Jonses. We all battle our demons, Jamey keeps it real and reminds us how precious life is, I commend him for that, just a normal guy like us, didn't sell out to Nashville. Thank you Jamey, keep it true country brother!!!
This is the best reply I've ever heard to anything on the internet. It is so true. Thanks for opening my eyes and I hope the eyes of many others. I love you brother.
Yes sir
60 days clean now and I listen to this song everyday only needs to lose his dog and it's my life story
You couldn't be more right!!
Huh do what with who's chicken 🐔
This song brought tears to my eyes...praying hard for anyone dealing with addiction. There is one who has all power may you find Him now. 🙏 God Bless 💜
God works, slowly but surely.
I made the personal choice to turn my life around, but I'm just now hearing this song. Even though I may be young I can say it speaks the truth.
Jamie Johnson writes the most sensible songs there are. All tell a story, each has a message, and all are songs we all cam relate to. Thank you Jamie, you're the best!!!

Man I've lived this song over and over gotta make this time stick! Truer words have never been spoken
The original words said Mr. Johnson... wonder why they decided to change the name. My original CD I had way back was Mr Johson.
The hardest times, make us the strongest storms, hitting 12 years and being sober is the best thing that ever happened to me, let go & let God stacey
This song still makes me cry. Been sober for 7 yrs now
@Chris Smith 17yrs 9months. I'm right there with you brother. I'm all in my head 24/7.. Can't get out of my own fucking way. 'Life' & those I trusted keep kicking me down left & right. This damn disease is a life sentence. Don't pick up and try to turn over the BS 400x a day like I TRY 😉
My son has pasted but he could relate to this song. He got sober and found God. Thank you Jamey. See you in Peoria IL in August.
This song is my story I can say that it's good to be clean now for 7 months and if I hear this song and just think of all the money I have spent it's just keeps me clean thank you God for helping me do this thing love you all
this song hits home and I'm not afraid to say there are tears in my eyes. I threw away a lot for a hypodermic needle. But by his grace I'm alive and finally the father I needed to be.
Mr Sunshines you’re not living up to your username much bud. We all have our own battles man. It’s really pathetic how you decide to dog on somebody who you don’t even know or know what they been through. But yeah this was three years ago who gives a damn

@Mr Sunshines Im glad I dont know you
One day at a time. God bless Jamie for this song that helps us and gives us hope.
This song popped up on my phone in a mix playlist. Never heard of the artist or the song but it went along with what i was dealing with that day with my firstborn. I too am a recovering addict and this song hit hone! God bless!
I can't tell you how many times, in my darkest, loneliest hours I would listen to this song over and over and over. And cry. And scream. And wish for an out.
In 2 days, will have been over 3 years and 3 months since I've felt that despair and hopelessness and pain.

That's Great Keep It Up You Can Do It :)
i feel you.. i,m there now but you just got to keep going..it has become the motto of my life..the high cost of livin ain,t nothin like the cost of living high..good luck my friend.
Glad you found an out. that life always scratches at the back of your mind. It'll want back in forever
For those who have made the decision to get sober, you're never alone. God is right beside you. Fight the fight in front of you.
Truth
Been sober for a few years now. I didn't think taking pills a doctor gives you could turn in to what it did! Opiates are no joke!! Messed up my life and family for years!! Thank you Lord for getting my life and family back!!
NOBODY will understand if they've not been through opiates and the pleasure/pain that it brings. It's impossible to describe and understand, just like I'll NEVER understand childbirth.... If you haven't been through it, just don't even try. Props to you for beating the devil's dandruff so far. Never say NEVER, that's my only advice. 1 day at a time
Same happened. We drank,he cheated, but after our last child i got my tubes tied along with a prescription for vicodine
Suddenly we were high together, making love all the time. We became drug buddies. We survived it,but we broke up. Had no idea
Wow, I lucked upon this video. I've never heard those words before. The high cost of living aint nothing like the cost of living high. So True. Amen.
This song reminds me of my brother, it makes me weep! I miss you brother! In God's hands now! 😥
Too many people have lived this song!! Including me!! I have been clean for almost 8 years!! I am grateful for EVERYDAY of it!! There was a time when I didn't think I could go 2 or 3 days!! Now., almost 8 years later, I cant imagine going back!!

My young wife passed away I fell in the bottle and a few things now I should be able to get on with my life it's hard so much time is still there for me thanks for letting me know I not alone
Jamey Johnson is highly imitated, never duplicated.
2023.... Being a distributor running around meeting new people... staying up for weeks to supply construction workers that builds river fronts ..bridges.. and building courthouses... being good at it... this song is hitting me hard.....💯 .. getting a 10 year sentence and killing it in 4yr and 6 months... I'm not going to stop.....
If your gonna do wrong do wrong right
NEVER Was a Country Fan But This is One of the Few Country Songs That Absolutely Floored Me!! Enough Said!!
If you've been addicted to drugs or alcohol this song has so much truth. Nothing costs more than living high it costs you money, family, maybe your job and freedom
😢 or your life.
I'm midwest born and raised. (Ames) living in des moines. Been in that building before. And polk county. And most prisons in the state. Just lost my wife to my addiction and problems. (Cocaine and alcohol) this song is keeping me going these days brother. I want you to know that. Thank god for you and the message youre sending me in the song.
This man speaks to souls. True country
Such an underrated artist! He's one of this generations last bastion of hope.
story of my life
He is awesome!!!
Found a couple good real country artists on Pandora. Make a station based on Jamey Johnson
He's never been underrated , he was born in 1939 ,so he's from a time and a way of thinking , he's 79 years old . He was to out spoken and he was basically Black balled , But there has never been a question of his greatness .
I’ve been an outlaw biker since 1983, so needless to say, this songs message is a strong one for me.
I changed that part a long time ago.
I’m 57 now, get up at 4, instead of going to bed at 4.
Thanks Jamie,
Very meaningful song
Haha! An Outlaw Biker huh? Damn.
Bless you 🙏🏼❣️
One of the. Greatest songs I've heard ,for anybody on the road to recovery, i. Love it!👍😁☕
"And I couldn't feel the sting of summer on my skin." Love it. What really stings is when it's over. Make it happen, you may never get a second chance.
36 days clean today and counting. This song is a daily reminder for me. Thank u Jamey
You dumb for doing drugs on the first place
Richard Morris shut up maybe she struggled with something else and used to stay sane and Jackie congratulations hope you are doing well
Hope your still going strong👍
I know this message was 2 years ago but I'm still confident that you aren't doing drugs anymore and your keeping up the good work!!!
Jackie Bruder how do I... 21 years I don't want it anymore. I cry when that sting hits my arm. Not from the physical pain emotional damage and discuss , I've truly looked at myself in the mirror and yet I turn off the light! I'm sorry please forgive me
Damn what a truly point blank song!! It's happened to alot of good people!!! God bless them!!
The song is awesome, but the comments to follow are what hits home for me.. Thank you to all who posted. An eye opener for myself to say the least. Even when I thought I was beginning to open my eyes. I was not even close. It starts within and always ends within. It s all up to us in the end.
There is no end my friend. :)
This song IS a good reminder!

This song gives me hope.no matter how far down you go you can always change. Every day you wake up the opportunity is there.
😢 I pray this video/ song reaches at least one addict. This is so true and tragic. I was married to an addict and he did get clean and he lived 22yrs clean and died from hep-c turned cirrhosis. He's been healed and healthy living the life in Heaven. God bless.
Still fighting this demon every day
Hang in there ! IT'S WORTH IT. .GOOD LUCK. ..you'll never stop fighting that demon even after you quit, but you will get better at fighting. You'll have to kick your own ass every now and then to keep it teal...just think it through. .Good Luck and God Bless
Keep fighting
You're not alone...
You gotta build a relationship with Jesus and he'll teach how to control those frickin demons!!!
Same here
One of the best songs you can listen to word for word if you've ever struggled with or battled addiction and to see where you've been in life and how far you have come to be the person you are today compared to the person you once was.
Amen-clean from meth-21 years now.
was homeless in 2005 ... making 6 figs now
My dad played this song a lot, never quite understood until now. I'm 22 now and I've never done or even looked at any kind of drug. I never drank, still don't. My father raised me to be strong willed and tough. As hard as my life has been throughout it's short time, I never turned to a bottle or blunt for help or clarity. I don't know what it feels like for all of my pain to just suddenly fade away, but at least I know that nothing nice comes free. It has a cost, and it cost my father everything and then some. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for all my worries and pain to go away, but that makes me a coward because I'm to scared to take on the responsibilities of being a person/father. Pain is what let's us know we're alive, it's time we just embraced it.
Good luck to anyone recovering. I know it's hard, but keep fighting the good fight.
Wow man. That comment really hit me brother… good for you. You are absolutely correct. Stronger than me, but I’ve given up 4 of the 6 drugs in one year. No legal troubles yet, but it’s inevitable if I don’t stop. Been in the dope game since age 12. Now 41 and the fog is lifting. I wish like hell I had your strength back then. Would have saved so much… better late than never tho. Props to you. Thanks for sharing.
This song saved my life. ❤
Glad I survived it all to get where I am today. Thanks, Sir for this story. Keep up the Fire Brother.
