He throws in words and concepts that are common in theism to make it seem sensible but it's just word salad and people with have to convert it to ideas and then the emotional manipulations Mike used encourage them to do that with wishful thinking and they come to the conclusion that god and Mike are genius and super kind and loving. And Mike and many people then defend it with a big dose of utilitarianism and say:" Well, it inspires people to be kind, so who cares?" And then I suggest to get people to worship a narcissist and be kind, or else, and they'll be like, no no no, that's abusive.

Hammers aren’t designed to hit nails. They are designed to transmit energy down to a small surface area. What that energy goes into depends on circumstances, of which driving a nail is one. Some hammers have multiple surfaces with different utility such as a claw-like bisected wedge on the back. We find hammers in nature all the time. We typically just call them rocks. Rocks were not designed and they have no purpose, but, like humans-like anything in nature-they have features that can be adapted depending on circumstance. If that feature is used long enough in a given circumstance, it gets better at that thing. Until, one day, a stupid ape comes along and claims it was meant for that one thing all along.

If I buy a hammer because I need a weapon, or a paperweight, or I want to take it apart and use it in a piece of modern art, then that is what that hammer's purpose is. The person who made the hammer cannot say I'm using it wrong, because it's accomplishing what I want it to accomplish.

I wish he would get to that afterlife.
    I imagine his reaction:
"WTF?!?! I just spent my whole life devoting my mind, soul, and body to loving a figment of my imagination?????? What an utter waste! I can't believe I was so stupid and gullible!!!!"
Then I wish that every religious rube on the planet could come to that realization while they can still do something sensible with what's left of the only life they have.

When it's all distilled down to the dregs, all Mike says is that he thinks X is better than Y. He could have done that in 10 seconds.

I usually shoot down this variety of stupidity by arguing that nobody has purpose, and even looking for a universal 'purpose' is asking the wrong question, because 'purpose' doesn't exist. Not just your purpose or the purpose of a hammer, *PURPOSE ITSELF IS A MYTH*. Everything is transient, everything is subjective.

Not having a transcendent purpose(whatever that means) hasn’t bothered me or my child in the least. We do things and participate in what we want as long as that does not bother anyone else.

It's really creepy to think that an all powerful, all knowing God is such a massive narcissist that he demands praise from creatures that are grossly inferior to Him.

To me, the entire argument boils down to this: “Here is a long list of shit that I believe. And if I believe them, then these are the things that I believe” and as irrational, simple and circular as this obviously is, that is all it is.

Well, he also connects all kinds of weird unrelated things to pretend he has -a reason- an excuse to believe what he believes and that you should be convinced because those are _obviously_ related, like duh, you're a fool if you can't see that, says so right there in the bible in different words, but the words fit if you Winger them a little.

Most people would probably say their purpose is something related to their family. I don't think many would say their job is a purpose.

Those are extrinsic 'purposes.' If no God exists, your life is objectively purposeless accident - no matter what imaginary 'purposes' you make-believe for your life,
