When she recorded this video she was actually going through her own divorce and the emotion translated into a very emotional and heartfelt performance. If I’m not mistaken she wrote the song putting herself in the shoes of the “other woman” to illustrate how much it hurts to be lied to and, as the bridge and last chorus shows, how empowering it is when you’ve had enough and are ready to move on and live your own life. Even after all these years I still deeply feel this song. Maybe it's because I know how she feels being cheated on, maybe it's because of her amazing voice either way is a master piece
What I love about this song is with all the songs from the wife’s perspective or the mistress’s perspective, there is never any repercussion or blame on the cheating man. I love that by the end of the song, she gets her gumption back and dumps his wandering butt…telling him to keep his married rear end home and don’t come back to her. That doesn’t Leah’s happen in songs like this. You go girl!

This performance certainly drained her. Written about her breakup with her husband. He was cheating. This is from the perspective of the other woman. She finally got the strength to stand up to him.
She was going thru a divorce but not because he cheated, that's a common misconception. After hearing Reba's song " Whoever's in New England" she wanted to look at it from the "other woman's" point of view.

@@michaelgilbert197 , yes divorce was real, tears were real but i've seen the interview where she talks about this being in response to Reba"s song, not her marriage.
She was going through a divorce while recording this song. Her husband was the one cheating on her, so, she wrote about the other woman's point of view. When you see her crying, she's really crying. Her guitarist, Kristian told to them keep rolling when she was crying, because she couldn't get through the song without breaking down. He had had enough of seeing her suffer. They filled in the song after they were done recording.
Sugarland is Jennifer Nettles (singer) and Kristian Bush (guitarist). This was recorded while she was going through a divorce resulting from her husband cheating. Yet she sang it so well from the other woman’s perspective. SO much talent. You should watch their video for the song “Unlove You”. Side note, Kristian was once the guitarist for Annie Lennox, definitely NOT country. There were originally 3 members to Sugarland on their first album.

@@chickenjo23 Yep! I don't remember exact quotes but I do remember her/them saying that it was just performance. Granted, it's a a VERY good performance...but a performance nonetheless.
one of the few songs to bring tears to my eyes
This has to be personal. What a beautiful song. She felt this. Wow. Must watch more of this group.
Go and watch her sing at the Kennedy Center Honors. She is well regarded and multifaceted.
Just a guitar and her beautiful voice. 😍
try baby girl from Sugarland it was their first hit and first released song I believe my favorite love the message to the parents!
this one is sad and hard to watch! God Bless everyone 🙏❤
Just found you tonight. Enjoyed your reaction to Fancy. I love this song. Always makes me cry!!
I'm definitely not a country fan but WOW! What a voice, made my eyes water!
you never know, you might be after this one...
Your loss.
First time hearing this and girl put it all out there.
I gotta pause this (I’m gonna cry). With ya bro.
You would love Martina McBride, first one I suggest is God's Will. A beautiful song that inspires and brings a tear to the eye.
Oh I have been busy at vet offices today so glad I’m home now to hang out of Female Friday wooohoooo KEEP ROCKIN …… this is such a awesome video …. Those treats are real you can feel the pain in the song ….
I see plenty of people have given you the backstory. Since this was a pretty emotional song, I'm going to suggest that you watch their song Stuck Like Glue, the official video. Totally different type of song and I think you'll get a kick out of it.
Definitely stuck like glue, see her other side
Was gonna suggest so ill just add my heck yeah gotta do stuck like glue lolol
I love them so much. Jennifer is amazing! I got to meet and chat with Kristian at the Opry a few years ago and he was so nice!
Hey guys Since we couldn’t post there I wanted to tell you the vids you did with the girls was SOOOO GOOD!! I loved seeing them and just having fun!!! Way to go,,
More Sugarland please. My daughter's wedding song, eleven years ago was "Stuck Like Glue." Any Sugarland would be amazing, but that one would be very special
Still seems like yesterday when you guys reactied to this.....Going back over songs that I love.. and your reaction to this is one of the best, you listened...and let her voice take you to the place where she was, ...so much hurt. This song held so much emotion for her I have tears every time I listen to this... every time!!
Jennifer Nettles and Bon Jovi did a song together Who says you can’t go home. You should check that out. One of my favorites
YES!! that song is awesome!! Good suggestion!!
Thank you for playing the song I love this woman.
Not sure how you stumbled on this one but Jennifer Nettles can sing her behind off and it's emotional af. Enjoy
Still hoping you guys choose Haley Reinhart With PMJ doing Creep.
Haley so so unique. Loved her on American Idol, but was mad when she beat out my favorite that year to take 3rd. :)
"Still hoping you guys choose Haley Reinhart With PMJ doing Creep. "
YES PLEASE!!!!!!
Also, PMJ "Dream On" is great, and since they like rap, the PMJ cover of "Ice Ice Baby" is hilarious!
I really enjoy you both. ☺ Keep up the good work and I'm excited to see where you go with your choices and music exploration.
If you think Jennifer’s voice is strong in “Stay”, watch the video of her singing the Christmas song “O Holy Night”. It will blow you away! If it doesn’t give you chills or goosebumps, you might want to check your pulse.
This! Her version of “O Holy Night” is absolute perfection.
Best voice in country music, she can sing anything.
OMG!!! This is my first time hearing Sugarland. Jennifer Nettles obviously has a connection to this song and some event in her life that she has not moved past. It may have been painful to her, but it make for a performance that was genuine and totally amazing. I have to look into more music by Sugarland!
Hi Amber & Jordan. Yours is the first channel I have ever subscribed to. I love the honesty of your reactions and the breadth of artists you listen to.
If I may make a suggestion for a future Female Friday it would be Teena Marie - Deja Vu I've been here before. I think you'll love her voice. I won't spoil it by giving the genre away.
I love the end when she stands up for herself, and sends him packing
Absolutely heart wrenching 😢. I loved y'alls reaction!
jennifer nettles had real tears in this video she was going through a divorce but she wrote this from the other womans perspective
Not true she wrote the song in 2003 and divorced in 2007
Y’all made me smile so much tonight. And your girls were so super cute in the Cyndi Lauper video.
One guitar and one beautiful voice, if this doesn't rip your heart out, you can feel the pain. I can't help but tear up watching this video. Jennifer Nettles, amazing
Her voice is out of this world god but the pain she felt in this song is real
There is a live version of this song as well, and during the performance, she has tears streaming from her eyes!
This was life, this song almost didnt happen. Her Partner wanted to stop it because they needed to stop several times so she could compose herself. The tears were real no acting there and a beautiful song from the heart! Real country music!!
This song reminded I still have heart strings. Thanks. ( Don't let no one else know. ).
Even after all these years I still deeply feel this song. Maybe it's because I know how she feels being cheated on, maybe it's because of her amazing voice either way is a master piece
Great job guys!! I'll tell you, you've got some guts to do a raw reaction to this! It's broken many a strong heart...mine included!
I saw your first reaction with James on AC/DC Thunderstruck. It has been amazing watching you get into the different music. Warms this ol grandma's heart.
@@jtd5849 MY WORD.... Look it up. It's NO SECRET.... Her husband was cheating, she wrote this from the other woman's perspective. Her tears were real as she was divorcing him at the time....
@@michaelgilbert197 MY WORD! www.cmt.com/news/1578707/the-story-behind-sugarlands-stay/ . Oopsy ,
@@jtd5849 This.
@@michaelgilbert197 , yes divorce was real, tears were real but i've seen the interview where she talks about this being in response to Reba"s song, not her marriage.
I saw Sugarland live in concert. When she sang this song, a lot of people, including me cried. ❤
I have never in my life seen anybody sing a song with that much emotion in their voice and on their face!
I'm loving your channel and reactions! Your Home Free reactions got me here and I've enjoyed many more! Loving this journey you're on and I'm riding along. I would love to see you do Craig Morgan's The Father, My Son, and The Holy Ghost. It is another truly heartfelt country song that Craig wrote after the passing of his 19 year old son. He struggles to perform it almost every time. I think the official video is my favorite, but the live ones are just almost as good. Thanks again for your reactions!!!
You gotta react to Martina McBride’s “Independence Day”! Maybe save that one for the Female Friday just before July 4th?????
I have heard this song over 100 times and it brings me to tears every time.
Something so freaking beautiful , born from such heartbreak. Amazing
First time hearing this song.. amazing!
Ideas for female Friday.
Iris DeMent: let the mystery be.
Natalie Merchant: carnival ,beloved wife or wonder🙂
I just now stumbled onto this which is a little late. That said, it is all about her eyes! Her eyes sell the song here! Beautiful!
More for female Friday. Want a banger? Try Melissa Etheridge "Bring Me Some Water" or "I'm the Only One". Want something a little more funky try Rickie Lee Jones "Youngblood"
Dang! I never heard of this woman before, she's Awesome! I'm saving her to my country playlist. It's pretty short, I need some more country songs
