Before starting any painting project I suggest carefully measure the square footage of the surface to be painted and write it down on a piece of paper. Next, set it on fire while making a silent prayer to as many deities your belief system allows. Next, take out your credit card and open a running tab with your friendly paint provider.

I'm working outside with a tarp cover in 90F weather with Alexseal and SoftSand. I did a base coat and two seal coats in 8 hours using the thumbprint test. I'm in SE Georgia so getting multiple days in a row of no rain in the summer is nearly impossible. What I have completed so far turned out well. Alxeseal with the roll additive is amazing paint.

Andy, I used the same materials and found the med softsand to rough. I lightly sanded it with 400 after the first coat dried completely and applied 2 more coats. The finish was excellent. 2 years of abuse and it still looks great. Alexseal is a great product. I think I spent about a billion dollars on softsand. Try it on a sample the next time and you will find it's a different way to use the product with way better results. Thanks for your videos, I've been subscribed from the beginning.

Please come to Annapolis! I'm anchored in Newport Harbor right now, but am leaving the week before that show to head slowly south to Annapolis, where I'm working in the Maretron booth, and my wife at The Boat Galley booth. It would be great to meet you and shake your hand as my wife and I have both learned a lot from your videos.

I have no connection to Kiwi Grip but have hade it on my boat for ten years plus. Cleaned up with a pressure wash it looks like new. Very easy to apply and you can color match with acrylic color from a paint store.

If trying to do taped border areas of non skid, would you tape off and do non skid areas first and then remove tape and cover those areas along with the seal coats for the non skid?

Fantastic as always andy 👍 thank you 🙏
When measure for results, surely taking the amount waisted on the roller and paint tray should be included, as anyone using a roller and tray would also be using that amount as well as whats spread out on the surface there working on ? If that makes sense to you 😂 so you used say 1oz on the surface, but would be slightly more needed to mix up to account for wastage on roller etc.

Is there a reason you don’t put the texture on with primer and use primer to lock it before you paint?

What about using gelcoat for non-skid?

  • @larryhebert3765

This is not on topic but I respect your opinion. If an encapsulated lead keel has let go of it’s fiberglass covering can I drill holes in the bottom of the keel to remove any water. Dry it over several months. Then pour in from the bilge side after opening it, that penetrating epoxy to fill any small voids and to rebound the keel to the lead ballast?

I need some help bud! I bought and fully sanded my shetland 536 completely back to bare arse, and now I'm gel coating it white with a brush, am I okay to just gelcoat straight onto it or do I need a special undercoat or primer? Cheers

Why not use TotalBoats TotalTread for non skid? We removed the lower teak on our Grand Banks and went from deck, then Totalboat fairing compound then TB primer then two coats of TotalTread. Great results!

The one part nonskid paints are also a great option, but there is a noticeable difference in durability between 1 and 2 part coatings :-)

We also had to apply non skid while at our slip, we’re a liveaboard. TotalTread also says to recoat every couple of years, depending on wear. We’ll see. Thanks for the reply. Also, most of the liveaboards here in Bradenton/Sarasota, all know & watch your videos. 👍👍

Why are there no Total Boat nonskid and wet edge videos? I would really like to see it compared to the alexseal nonskid. We love our alexseal hull, but want a one part one step for the top decks.

Do you suggest pulling tape between coats

    • @boatworkstoday
      @boatworkstoday  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Typically it's not necessary if you're able to stick with the 4 consecutive day application :-)

  • @thorb5191

I think it would've been nice if you would've done the square next to the one you did but do it with the lighter coat of sand that can leave an inconsistent pattern so people could see the difference if the camera could pick it up. Just think that would be a good teaching/information point.

I didn’t read your question, but that is something I think I would have troubles with simply because it must be very different than “regular” paint because it doesn’t flow?

Hi Andy, Perhaps this is cursing in the church (don’t know if this is am English saying as it is in Dutch) but I wonder if U-pol Raptor would be a good anti skid. First thing that seems easy to apply is spraying of course which gives a even layer. Second I guess it is to sharp on bare feet. Anyways thanks for another guide! Albert

Lol soft sand I’m sure it’s a very good product. I’m using black beauty blasting grit it’s much more aggressive and it uses a ton of paint for even 1 Sq ft
