- Bermudagrass calendars have been around for many years. You can find a bermudagrass calendar on the website of many universities turf departments. Bermuda grass maintenance can be about as complex or simple as you want it to be. The bermudagrass maintenance tips in the video will help beginners to learn how to take care of bermuda grass and make their lawn look good. Bermuda grass maintenance can be very complicated also. There are lots of advanced techniques that we will cover in future videos that will be helpful in learning how to take care of a bermuda lawn.

Great video! Wish you were around 7 years ago when I started my first Bermuda Lawn. As for my lawn today... In the past, I would mow it fairly high (2.5-ish inches) and only once every 2 weeks, maybe once a week if it rained a lot. But then it would look scalped for a few days after mowing. This year I am mowing at an inch (mostly because I only have a rotary mower) and the plan is to mow every other day, or at a minimum, twice a week. So far things are looking good and I am greening up nicely.

The Lawn Tools, it definitely helps! I typically end up with about 1/3 to 1/2 as much grass in the catcher while using it.
Great video. I cut with a rotary mower. Scalped at .75 inches and will maintain between 1 and 1.5 inches.

I like that you took time and read all the different University studies. It is the best place to get in depth information about grass and not get an opinion from some guy on TH-cam. I personally mow my Bermuda at 1 inch that is the lowest I can get my rotary mower to go. Hoping to make the switch to reel mowing at some point still waiting to catch a deal on one.

That’s exactly what I did. Most of them don’t have any they want to sell because they lease them but if you call enough, you will find one. Obviously online marketplaces are worth checking too.

Excellent video! I have 18 year old seeded - common bermuda I would suspect. I usually have it at 1 inch through Summer and up to 2 inches for winter, but this year I'm going for 0.5 inches on my rotary Cub Cadet. That means the deck is as low as possible. Throwing down some bio-nutrients as well and water, water, water! Alabama

Oh how I've missed the singing. Let's GOOooooo!! Ah! Good stuff! This year I'm trying to mow at 1 to 1.5 inch which is as low as my rotary mower will go. I went all scary like and power raked on Feb 15 since we had such a warm winter. Definitely exposed a lot of dirt but I know it will fill in. Right now I'm hammering the humic acid and kelp while I have unfettered access to the soil. Also just put down Carbon-X two weeks ago. What green that is coming in is very dark. I'm going to supplement a little more nitrogen to push the growth to fill in with stolons and rhizomes. Alabama temps are getting nice! War Eagle!

Just stumbled across your channel, love it! Subscribed. I’m in eastern NC and will be moving into a new construction home in July. They will be putting down a contractors mix, which I know nothing about. Any tips for a beginner in getting the lawn established since it will be about in the middle of summer when they’re putting down the seed? Also what’s a decent, affordable fertilizer spreader you’d recommend for a half acre yard?

Hey... it's me again. Lol... thanks for sharing your knowledge plus the research... just so you know, I only cut with a reel mower.. I have zeon zoysia for my front yard but the back yard had 10% zoysia.. mostly weeds.. crapgrass.. now its tiftuf at 4000 + 1000sqft back yard and side yard (by the driveway).. I've been struggling with this Bermuda.. so thin.. and not growing.. looks good looking from a distance but walking on it, you see the dirt.. thanks for sending the link. Got yardmastery's stimulant package coming tomorrow.. going to air-8 the heck out of GA clay!! Plus RGS..thanks bro! I'm going to order the soil test now..!

Is Artazine the same as pre emergent and what is best to get rid of existing bluegrass?
I try and mow twice a week... And Hight of cut is 1/2" to 3/4" in the Hot (100-110f) summer months CALIFORNIA I also use a mclane reel mower
what is the best brand of Bermuda seed to use for a very sandy southeast NC lawn. I am going to have 0 foot traffic on the areas I am growing for they will be fenced off.
In your opinion when is the best time to remove thatch? Dormancy? Spring? Summer? Fall?

I got through the entire video and wanted to say thank you. With that said, I have a few questions that you touched on but still seems unclear.
Should I put down a fungus and bug application right now? I’m in central Ca and it is slowly warming up here.
Also, what fertilizer do you recommend? Lastly, if I got a soil test kit how do I know what the results are?

Not fungus quite yet. Could probably do bug now. I like whatever granular I can find at Lowe’s. This year I am going to use that and supplement with lawn Star liquid fertilizers in between. When you get the soil test, it will have full instructions but you need to dig up some dirt and mail it in. The results will come to you after they process the dirt.

You mentioned seeding. How would you suggest going about that in conjunction with a split application of pre-emergent? Put down my first half app of Pre-M around 3/1 and threw down the second half of Pre-M today. I've got some large barren spots in the lawn. At what point do you think I'm ok to throw down some seed? I know that pre-M is going to diminish the amount of seed that grows, but it doesn't last forever. Thanks for the assist :)

How big are these bare spots? You could skip the pre emergent where you are going to throw seed. Or consider plugging from your existing lawn instead. Yes some seed still might make it if you pre M before but that’s a big “might”
@@TheLawnTools They are quite large. I have 12.5k sq feet total and there's several sections in the back each about 1-200 sq feet total. Plugging is a better option huh? How hard to push the Nitro and when to start that? Do I go extra heavy on the bare spots to encourage runners to come fill in?

Wait until your Bermuda is pretty vigorously growing. Water it a lot offer plugging like you would sod. Not too crazy with the nitrogen at first because all the watering may wash it away. Ben the lawn guardian did a plugging Bermuda video last year and we will be doing some plugging this year as well (after you see left tool’s sod video, you will see why 😂)
Also, when are we going to get a peak of the tulip trail you planted last season?

When do the dahlias start to die off ? They dont last through the summer do they ? I live in south Alabama zone 9b and I just got my bulbs I'm worried it may be too late to even plant them.

Mine lasted through the summer just fine but I’m not quite as hot as 9b. I’m 7a. We haven’t planted ours yet either. Our last frost date is April 10 or something. Throw em down!

Thank you for going over this calendar. I had recently found the UofA article as well but loved the review. I have a question/s for you. I also live in beautiful AR. My wife and I recently had Bermuda sod placed in late July. I am trying to figure out what I need to do now. I watered it as best I could per the recommendations but our yard is already brown in certain spots. I have seen videos where they say do nothing for the first year...I have seen videos where they say other things. I am worried we did something wrong because the yard is already brown but I am lost as to what to do now?? Would you recommend following the calendar or waiting a year? Any advice would help.

If you put it down in July, it should be pretty much like any other lawn at this point. Have you been watering ever since July?
Yes sir. I tried to follow the plan of watering 3x day 1st week, 2x day 2nd week, 1x day 3rd week etc. The hurricane came through so I tried to adjust but I have some areas that are not looking good, easy to pull up etc.

My soil result came back from the lab and it was showing my lawn is very very weak 2 days ago I put Lesco 18 24 12! Can I put some scotts lawn food granular fertilizer? Or green MAX? .fyi the PH was 6.5. Thank you sir
Depends on how many pounds of nitrogen you put down with the Lesco. 1lb of nitrogen per 1,000 sq ft is the most you should probably do at one time
I'm cutting it at about 1.5" this year. I think that's the lowest I can cut it without scalping with my current mower.

Yeah but most of us that are getting the greensmaster a are likely getting them used from golf courses or second hand and in alot of cases they need some TLC. I have very limited mechanical experience but because of TH-cam I was able to rebuild the carb on my greensmaster( new gaskets and alot of carb spray) Thanks Taryl fixes all, but back to my point.... Vids like yours help alot of subscribers with their own diy fixes! So thanks and keep up the great content!

My Bermuda grass is cut at about 1” for now. All of my neighbors have their grass at 3-4”. I do t get it. Why does everyone in Arkansas leave their grass so long. Bermuda looks terrible in the summer when it is that high. Although in the winter it does look real nice at around 3”.
