Always keep a ready to go tac vest with armor plates and essential gear/weapons ready to go(civilians especially). Ballistic helmet too, but most for civilians they are cost prohibitive and take too many seconds to deploy properly during an emergency. Bad guys don't call ahead so you can get ready at your leisure, unfortunately.

I don’t think you understand the severity of the situation, it’s a officer down situation which means he is most likely killed or seriously injured. A full police response like this is most likely necessary. About a year back in my county we lost a officer due to 3 gunmen that ambushed him in a call. The entire damn county was on lockdown, SWAT, Police, FD. It’s very unfortunate, and a very unforgiving situation.
It wasn’t just Hawthorne police, Hawthorne is not really that big so Ik when they face a big threat they probably call surrounding departments like El Segundo, Redondo Beach, LA County Sheriff, Gardena, and Inglewood police.
