    Great video. Helped me prepare for replacing the converter on my 2014 Soul. Especially since I was missing parts on my car and never knew it. Upstream sensor is located in manifold cat? Downstream sensor located in flex pipe? Why does second cat after the flex pipe have a sensor hole?

    • @WrenchingRyan
      @WrenchingRyan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, @ 2:31 of this video I removed the upstream O2sensor, downstream is mounted on the flex pipe, after the flex pipe that is your 2nd under floor catalyst and doesn’t have O2sensor in it. oh.. by the way this is 1.6L engine.

    When symptoms indicate the CAT is bad, how do you know which one to replace. . . or both? I've watched many of these replacement videos. Some replace the one you did, some replace the one downstream from the flex pipe. How do you know?

    • @BeyondCashed
      @BeyondCashed ปีที่แล้ว

      ever figure this out?

    • @bluemax229
      @bluemax229 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BeyondCashed Yes, I figured it out by trial and error. I disconnected the flange between the flex pipe and the "downstream" CAT, just letting the exhaust pipe hang. Then I took it for a very loud test drive. With the exhaust free, it ran perfectly! So I ordered a cheap CAT replacement for about $55 and replaced it. Runs perfectly now. The only consequence was now I have a check engine light, even though I never had one when it was running horribly. Incidentally, the old catalytic converter was very much plugged up, with only a few holes in the honeycomb open. And to answer your question, an OBT scanner will determine which converter is faulty. My problem was the car was not throwing any code, even though it was running terrible.

    Two questions:
    1. Do you leave the small square sticker that was shown inside the Catalytic Converter (7:30)?
    (I didn't see you remove it and would think it would block flow)

    Great video, my 2017 has 119K miles and I'm getting the P0420 code. I can only assume previous owner let the plugs go or something and misfires shortened the cat's life. The real problem IMHO is the cat is way too small. My Passat has a 1.8L turbo and the cat is much larger, a big stomach shaped thing that bolts to the turbo. Kia knows these cats are too small.

    Hey is it common for the 2016 Kia soul to have to have the catalytic converter changed after 2 years and I didn't know there was a recall on it I had to have mine changed in 2020 and it was still under warranty and they fixed it but now it's messing up again and it is no longer under warranty and according to the dealership they don't have it on file that they fixed it

    • @WrenchingRyan
      @WrenchingRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they are common for catalyst failure, Kia released improved catalyst converter for this concern and all the vehicle I worked on never come back for the same concern, you might have something wrong with your engine causing catalyst to fail again, weird hearing dealership can’t find your record on file. as far as I know any KIA dealership you go all your recalls performed will be on your file.

      With that much inside damage in the catalyst 9 out of 10 the base catalyst also clogged/damage but surprisingly the base catalyst doesn’t look bad at all, since the catalyst are way to expensive I suggest to customer to replace the main catalyst first, luckily by replacing the main catalyst fixed the issue.

I'm about to trade in, Then on top of it the cat is integrated with the manifold making it cost a fortune. It's a good little car but this is outrageous, Every 20k miles they poop out on me & they sold the car to me like this. I'm not entirely sure what's making it burn, They want 2k just to look & they gmfu overall that'll be almost 7k in repairs.
