Lady Vaness...in all her glory. What more could you ask for in a voice and artist? Within this one aria, she taught eight semesters of voice, and conducted a special master class. I'm floored.
Wow! Incredible! This is quite the difficult aria- especially for a large voice! And, she sounds like she is having fun! Her range! Her trill! Her squillo! Her agility! That was as close to perfect as I have ever heard!! Brava!!!
Almost studied with her at IU. Too bad the school had her so over promised bc multiple gradstudents couldn’t graduate in time to make room for the newbies who wanted to study with her. Oh well :) She’s super sweet and we will cross paths again ❤listening to this… she probably would have changed my rep anyway lol - nope! I’m keeping this aria 😜
A most beautiful voice. Underestimated at times in my view at least. Am not bashing Fleming needless to say but I think Vaness was the better singer. Fleming apparently had a more effective publicist.
She did fairly well at the Met, considering she came from NYCO next door. I always enjoyed her musicianship and artistry. I heard her a couple of times in SF as well.
@ True: Countess in new production, opening night Hofffman, Tosca, etc. My point is perhaps difficult to explain but I think CV was never the “ go to” soprano like Fleming. Needless to say, I don’t know if the Met was unfair to her or not. As I said, am not bashing Fleming who was another great singer.

That Stockholm concert as a whole is quite remarkable. She was in spectacular voice.

One of the greatest voices I ever heard live- as Tosca in Dallas in the early 2000s. She was RIVETING.

Vaness is a great singer and didn’t try to sing things outside her fach.
