    This guide is literally the best on TH-cam and because only fly fishers are looking for it the vast majority are missing out. 10/10

    Sooo is it odd that I watched a TH-cam video and took notes? This is an absolutely great video!

    Tom Rosenbaure is the most wholesome guy we have in the industry protect him at all costs! Big fan. One thing that’s helped me catch a lot more bass is this rule of thumb- strip set for subsurface flies, and wait a “one one thousand” before you set on poppers. Tight lines

    For anyone looking for top water flies: foam crickets and poppers are awesome!!!
    For subsurface: blane chockletts mini finesse changers and any game changers make bass go insane!

    I learned how to fly fish this past summer, my first target was bass! I had my doubts... now I feel naked fishing bass without a fly. Bass was beginning to get boring for me, too easy to catch. Fly fishing revived my passion for bass.

      Catching bass on conventional gear is so boring once you start catching em on a fly.

      That's where I'm at. Catching bass on spinning/baitcasting gear has honestly gotten stale. I want to dip my toes into fly fishing for them so I'm trying to learn the right setup.

    I love how when tom talks about flies he doesnt plug orvis. He just says online or local store. 👍

      I agree. I think it says a lot about him and a lot about his sponsor, Orvis. They both know that Orvis is predominantly displayed in the videos so there's no reason to drive the point home over and over. Eventually folks will come to try out and purchase Orvis gear and they'll feel they've made their own decision without being brow beaten into it. It's a very friendly and neighborly way to attract business. Orvis really scored big when they found Tom and put him front and center.

    Okay you convinced me! I am going to ty a few little poppers and go fly bass fishing at the corner river. I will take my walk before and do a couple of casting before getting back home. It is only a 10 minutes drive so I cannot go wrong with that. The sun sets in early fall are so amazing there is nothing to loose. I only catch and release so my wife does not get upset.

    Like that Queen's University logo on the boat. These kinds of lakes and bass-on-the-fly opportunities are practically in my back yard. Don't forget how important float tubes are when fishing in and around Central and Eastern Ontario. The season I realized I could hook smallmouth on the fly changed everything for me.

    In Denmark we don't have bass other than sea bass but loads of perch. I've read for perch flies the best would be flashy and bright colors but what would you recommend?

    • @orvisguidetoflyfishing
      @orvisguidetoflyfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flies that are bright like this work: www.orvis.com/p/flash-and-grab/2xt4

      Mads,...I suspect fly patterns like nymphs and dry flies that dont float too well.
      Bead head hares ear, Egg sucking leech and Mickey Finn. Size 10 or 8.
      Did a quick read on Sea Bass, very much the cousin of our Striped Bass.
      I would go after them too. Good luck.

    my local state park has a lake with lots of bass but they dont go after any traditional lures like cranks,, probably been fished a bunch, but ive seen the big ones go after flying ants that have fallen in the water so im thinking fly fishing with something that looks like that will finally work to catch them

    What size line/tippet?

    • @orvisguidetoflyfishing
      @orvisguidetoflyfishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      for most bass fishing, use 2x or 3x tippet. for bass fishing, six or seven weight are ideal

  • @Hook1fred
    @Hook1fred ปีที่แล้ว

    Disagree with “bass don’t pull line”. As a Southern California bass fisherman with several 10+ pounders under my belt I can assure you a bass will pull quite a bit of line
