Seriously...how does it get any better?? One of the few things I can say good about getting older is having had the opportunity to grow up with musicians like Clapton. It's like having that security blanket when you're young, but it never wears out, and stays with you forever.
I was there … I remember this song specifically ….His extended 2nd solo left everyone in the crowd amazed … this was probably the last great EC concert that I saw … as I’ve seen him over 40 times … definitely the best guitar player I’ve seen …. 🎸
This is Clapton at his very best. Could there be any doubt as to the height of his talent after watching this master piece. Not only did he hit every note, he hit all the right notes , and did it with the feeling as if God had commanded him himself how to do it. What can I say? They had it right, "Clapton is God". This is an art equivalent the Mona Lisa.
right on ,I couldn't say it better my self. plus not to mention as a guitar player I have done this song live a few dozen times here in p[howenix, Az. from the mid 1990's onward in a few of the bands i worked with. i started recording it once here at thwe house and never finished it but i need to either go back and finish it or just do it all over again li9ke take two.. i just love the song as well. cool... I remeber seeing him live in Tempe,Az. in may of 1991 third row left center floor seats doing this tune it was great. yea that was the ashowe or tour where he was back like Cream or even better all over again i weaited what 23 years to see Eric come out and play a 20 plus min. solo to the audience then the band came out and went into the song. yea the was concert for me that I WEAITED FOR MY HOLE ADULT LIFE AS A GUITAR PLAYER. FOR ai was way too young to see cream live in 1968 back in 68 i was 12, now at 67 i just want another gig to go and play before time runs out if ya know what I MEAN? =-m.g. IN PHOENIX, Az........ @@EC_IS_Here
I saw him a couple of nights ago.. Age has definitely caught up with him, but he was still the best guitarist in the world IMO. Fantastic tone, tasteful solos, always the right notes at the right time, fantastic show in general. "Clapton is God"
i get what you mean, he dont have Cream crossroads fire all drugged up, or like you said, the fire and zone he went into around this time was/is indescribale.Sealed the goatconvo to me.But heres 4 years after you seen him.Amazing intensity th-cam.com/video/q6xVIyW5VbY/w-d-xo.html he can when eh needed to.This is just killer guitar playing for a senior citizen lol.Btw the song we are listening in in my top 5-10 somgs he done live (performances on one one song)Blessings, no argument just chatting
I definitely agree with you. As I said, his tone, timing and taste are still fantastic. Hence why I said he's still the best living guitarist in the world (in my humble opinion). Too bad I missed Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy when they came here, I would have loved to see them play. Living legends.
Dangerous territory, that space where our muses live. Clapton is channeling emotions through that Strat that I believe would kill me if I lived them as he has.
i wish he'd do more bent string virbrato. he doesnt do it much anymore. but here you can hear him do it and its some of the best virbrato ive heard. reminds me of te cream days when he did spoonful and does that one great bend in the second verse. if you know cream, you know what i mean.
there's THAT groove again. The star here is the song itself...written by Fort Worth's own Jerry Lynn Williams. Name me your five favorite Clapton songs and three will be Jerry's.
Hard to say, but Best solo I've heard him play. That was rediculous.Just blows me away with his touch.Knows just what to play and when. And yeah, ill take that black strat all day.Seems so simple but 5:30 to 5:32 or so, when he moves on the neck like that, my lord.Thats what they call precision
If you wanted proof that Clapton is God then there it is! There are people that say he's not the best guitarist in the world. Hah ! Its not what he plays its how he plays it. With feeling, style, grace and that magic touch only Eric Clapton has. Thanks for posting this one, from 5:00 onwards is pure magic to watch and the interaction with Nathen East at 6:24 is terrific
its the best so i`ve ever hear from him....its not dat crazy like ( double troube 1978) or like the other songs (Old love or others stuff)..i never seen heared so much cry pain angry in the guitar so much love...and dat is all about the music to share your feelings and dat makes him 4 me the best guitar player from the WORLD...The second solo makes me speechles dat was the best solo and i don't know if he was crying because of his son ( god bless him) but the other vision wasn't like dat
He's very aged physically, although I think he's in a better shape than the Eric I saw on Crossroads 2004 DVD. Yea I think due to his age, he can't play as fast as the Cream/Bluesbreakers/Derek etc. days. for instance, the Crossroads solo didn't have the same "virtuoso-ness" as Cream ones. BUT.. it was still amazing, because as I said, he had a fantastic tone, an amazing feel and an unbelievable energy for a 65 yr old. Wonderful bluesman!!
Damn!! Eric is always good i bet when he played that concert in the70s laying on his back out off his head on booze he was still rocking, but he was really in the zone here. It may be better on slide but rocks more on electric.
This is great, but the "unplugged" version, with slide on dobro, is my favorite song on that DVD, and is much better than this electric version, as fantastic as IT is. I have now watched the acoustic performance 72 times, and STILL counting.
Well it is, I mean its great song and I love it to the bone, but Eric once said that the solo in Cream version is off the beat,, Maybe this is why he thinks its awful... Never mind, Creams Crossroads rocks :)... And this version of Running on Faith is just pure magic!
@MarkOpee1 I don't doubt your knowledge nor do I doubt Harrison's own words, but my initial reaction to your response was, "Ringo was the scapegoat for everything, that can't be right!"
@mrchrisization Clapton stole Pattie Boyd, the most beautiful woman of her time, from George Harrison, then subsequently rejected her. He deserves the beautiful pain flowing from that stratocaster.
Not really...just a few well ordered pentatonic/blues riffs with one or two diatonics thrown in at appropriate times. It's good....but Mona Lisa? Nah...
I swear his music, especially such an impassioned performance, resonates deep in my soul. The love and music exudes from his every pore
Seriously...how does it get any better?? One of the few things I can say good about getting older is having had the opportunity to grow up with musicians like Clapton. It's like having that security blanket when you're young, but it never wears out, and stays with you forever.
You can listen and watch and fall in love with Clapton all over again.
I was there … I remember this song specifically ….His extended 2nd solo left everyone in the crowd amazed … this was probably the last great EC concert that I saw … as I’ve seen him over 40 times … definitely the best guitar player I’ve seen …. 🎸

when he became sober and knocked the rust off, game over, he went to a planet by himself imo

This version is absolutely amazing and a discover for me, a new entire solo all to study
It's rare to see him that fired up later on. This was insane. Nothing to prove.
I saw him a couple of nights ago.. Age has definitely caught up with him, but he was still the best guitarist in the world IMO. Fantastic tone, tasteful solos, always the right notes at the right time, fantastic show in general. "Clapton is God"

Like that little riff he added at the end. Really on fire here.
How to become a legend in under 8 minutes.
It is hard to not love his music, this man is God
Love this .. and the Eric & Nathan interplay.
This here ladies and gents is what i call, complete AWESOMENESS!!

Waw .. I love this song unplugged but I'd never heard it on electric guitar.
It's amazing!!!!!!!
Yeah! I'm with it! Eric with some serious shredding! Way to kick ass!!!🎸🎸
I definitely agree with you. As I said, his tone, timing and taste are still fantastic. Hence why I said he's still the best living guitarist in the world (in my humble opinion).

Man this is great stuff!....Eric's playing is amazing here...Like always :-) thanks for your music EC!
Says so much, could be my life it's about. All I have right now is faith.
i wish he'd do more bent string virbrato. he doesnt do it much anymore. but here you can hear him do it and its some of the best virbrato ive heard. reminds me of te cream days when he did spoonful and does that one great bend in the second verse. if you know cream, you know what i mean.
Thank you! :)
God Bless 'Slow Hand' !!!
Love ya pal!!!
And im flying all the way from Barcelona to see him play at the royal albert hall in London on the 19th of may... I CANT WAIT !!!!!!!!
there's THAT groove again. The star here is the song itself...written by Fort Worth's own Jerry Lynn Williams. Name me your five favorite Clapton songs and three will be Jerry's.
Dio Santo... Questo è il concetto di "unicità"!
I love it around 4.30 when he starts strumming faster because i know the solo is coming ;)
yep. then from 4:59 to end is ... well... beyond words.
beyond words!
ALL HAIL CLAPTON!!!!
at 5:55 the earth got thrown off its axis just a bit.. awesome
He's the Master...

Long live slowhand
oh my god that was amazing
Claptons the man!!!!!!
That bass player is totally keeping up with him. Ain't no Jack Bruce, but props to any bassist who can keep up with God
The Best Version of this song is from Brighton - the same year. The Best guitar Solo I have ever heard!
its the best so i`ve ever hear from him....its not dat crazy like ( double troube 1978) or like the other songs (Old love or others stuff)..i never seen heared so much cry pain angry in the guitar so much love...and dat is all about the music to share your feelings and dat makes him 4 me the best guitar player from the WORLD...The second solo makes me speechles dat was the best solo and i don't know if he was crying because of his son ( god bless him) but the other vision wasn't like dat
Eric sei magnifico.....suo figlio era morto da poco più' di un anno
He's very aged physically, although I think he's in a better shape than the Eric I saw on Crossroads 2004 DVD. Yea I think due to his age, he can't play as fast as the Cream/Bluesbreakers/Derek etc. days. for instance, the Crossroads solo didn't have the same "virtuoso-ness" as Cream ones.

I was there!
si es verdad, en Perú admiramos a Eric Clapton lo mejor del mundo ,,ojala vengas al Perú ::::
i love this version of the song, the solos are amazing.one of claptons best.
of course not as nearly as well as he plays when he plays the blues.
Emocionante
Damn!! Eric is always good i bet when he played that concert in the70s laying on his back out off his head on booze he was still rocking, but he was really in the zone here. It may be better on slide but rocks more on electric.
5:00-7:15 definetely should be taught in improvization courses. My Gosh!
Absolute
god lives
My head fell of at 5:54
I always liked the electric version of tis over the acoustic version. My favorite is from 24 Nites
Two people must run on a faith to so far away from here!
I like both versions, but this solo is better in my opinion.
This is great, but the "unplugged" version, with slide on dobro, is my favorite song on that DVD, and is much better than this electric version, as fantastic as IT is. I have now watched the acoustic performance 72 times, and STILL counting.
Less is More............Sweet Slow Sounds of Soul.
yep EC and his blackie were smokin.' wish I was there.
god
Wow
non so se Clapton sia Dio, ma gli si avvicina molto.
@dorisu how did you get the recording. I couldnt find this on any music marketplace
Well it is, I mean its great song and I love it to the bone, but Eric once said that the solo in Cream version is off the beat,, Maybe this is why he thinks its awful... Never mind, Creams Crossroads rocks :)... And this version of Running on Faith is just pure magic!
No.,... Clapton is GOD!
@MarkOpee1 I don't doubt your knowledge nor do I doubt Harrison's own words, but my initial reaction to your response was, "Ringo was the scapegoat for everything, that can't be right!"
THEOS !!!!
@MarkOpee1 No misunderstanding. Just a terrible attempt on my part at making a crack at Ringo.
HAHA!!!!!!! YES HE IS!!
6:35 =D
Nope. The second solo is Claptonly.
@mrchrisization Clapton stole Pattie Boyd, the most beautiful woman of her time, from George Harrison, then subsequently rejected her. He deserves the beautiful pain flowing from that stratocaster.
more cowbell....
sound better on acoustic
Not really...just a few well ordered pentatonic/blues riffs with one or two diatonics thrown in at appropriate times. It's good....but Mona Lisa? Nah...
