    Mahi from a pier is rare indeed. I've caught them on boats in The Keys and Costa Rica but never from land or a pier. I had no idea they come so close there. Very cool. I've never caught a chicken dolphin at all, even cooler even if they're not big. In Spanish they're called dorado and I caught plenty of 3 and 4 footers trolling near the beach in Costa Rica on the Pacific side. I lived near the border with Panama and the fishin' is pretty awesome there.

    I usually wait until the jacks swim under the pier before casting when they're headed west like that, the jacks hooked on the east side keep on going west under the pier, and the jacks hooked on the west side keep going west away from the pier.

    You shouldn't use extra virgin olive oil for frying, it should be used in salads because it burns at a lower temperature than regular olive oil because it is much lighter than olive oil. I learned this recently, but if it works for you do it. I am more of a cook than a fisherman. Thanks for sharing.

    I hope you get this before my beach trip, but what kind of rod was that in the beginning of the video?

    • @BamaSaltwater
      @BamaSaltwater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a custom rod I had built. Rainshadow 1087 blank with Fuji K guide, Fuji Alps Aluminum Reel Seat, and Cork Grips. Pretty much a 9ft. Medium Heavy, Moderate Fast Action Spinning rod.

    Is a 1oz bucktail too heavy for pier fishing?
