The Sax guy and the Drummer sure are used to playing in such a tight space.
I bet they can fit a band in an outhouse.
I came here to confirm this lolol, these guys are pure natural talent.
I love how Clown Core has led me down a worm hole to such amazing music
ok now i have seen clown core and you owe me several minutes of my life back
@@joshchaffin3267 Clown Core is great. It's not necessarily aesthetically pleasing, but I feel that's the point. It's an outlet of stupid fun and weird creativity from Louis and Sam (allegedly). Still showcases their musical ability very well.
I watched this over 200 times and I still can't figure out how this hallway is constructed.
I think it's a T shape, with the I door being the only open door in the video, and an additional door on top of the T to the right of the left most door on the end point, relative to the T shape
Edit: also that last door I mentioned is open
I think the sax+vocals were filmed/recorded afterwards in the same hallway. Not sure though.
If u watch the "time traveler" vid from the same session, the ending reveals that ya, it is a t-shaped hallway. The bassist is facing the stretch of hallway w the sax player n genevieve with louis and the keyboard on either side of him
At 4:30 the camera pans around the hallway corner from Rai's keyboard to Sam on sax.
I wanna hear this for the first time again
@@arsemademeke332 enjoy it, cause when you know all the song it doesn't feels the same
This is what I dream of when im not having nightmares of ClownCore
Hahah I was just thinking this reminds me if clowncore was funky with vocals
I recognized that sax instantly and I was overcome with the feeling of being locked in an outhouse.
cl0wncore is comprised of louis cole and sax! they have an album of them playing in a portapotty
I’m a 66 year old keyboard player who made his bones during the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report. Return to Forever etc. Era in New York. I was an active working musician mostly in Atlantic City / Philadelphia market. Worked. With a lot of heavyweights. I wanted to tell you this because whenever I hear remarkably innovative and harmonically sophisticated young musician, like you guys, it gives me hope for the future of music. When I first heard “What’s in your Heart” a few years ago, it stopped me dead in my tracks. It’s great to see musicians with chops who can display what they do but still serve the song and groove. Genevieve, your voice and phrasing have so much presence and rhythmic inventiveness. Louis your chords just kill me. . I hadn’t heard you with the full band before. Yikes!!! All I know is that you impressed this old Geezer and make me feel so good when I hear you’re music. I wish you great success.
thats a really endearing comment, this is why i read youtube comments.
You guys are truly the real deal. You guys, Snarky Puppy, Dirty Loop, Jacob Collier....Music is in good hands
Hey Ricardo I'm the same age as you mate and absolutely agree , and would add, it makes me feel 20 again !!
Bass player is absolutely filthy. Good lord.
Absolutely dirty, disgusting, filthy, dirty bass that needs a bath. Just like it should be!
Joe Dart. Check him out. Beastly. Sky Mall. A walk to remember. He's a true god
That bass player is a god dam menace. amazing
if the music you play isn't making you mug like sam wilkes, then what are you even doing
Sam Wilkes’s notes just slip right into the pocket, smooth as shit.
Sam is one of the people in Plato's Cave allegory, he's spent his entire life in the pocket, and is completely unaware of anything else.
"Uhhh what's the tempo?"
_band plays flawlessly_
Welcome to musicianship, where nobody knows the tempo until you start :,D lmaoo
LOL but they were given the tempo right then. Your comment doesnt even make sence yet get 200+ thumbs up xD internet
I just discovered this band yesterday and my entire world has shifted and changed.
Welcome to the relentlessly ferocious onslaught of beefy bass blasts and scrumptious pizzazz all encrusted in pistachios! What’s better than pistachios? More pistachios! Woooo!
me too, the 20 min live performance in 2020 is another one to definitely watch over and over.
As soon as I saw the sunglasses graphic i was like "Pleeease put those sunglasses on the guy already wearing sunglasses" and when it happened i pressed the subscribe button
Can we take a second to appreciate Rai HAMMERING those keys in perfect time? If I practised for a million years I couldn't play this song like that.
Can we give praise to the cameragirl wearing a beekeeper top like she's some cyberpunk noir film extra? She did an excelent job filming this bizarre amount of concentrated talent
sometimes i wake up in a cold sweat thinking about the kick fill at 3:53
I felt the same way about the fill in Things About You, at 1:40 when I first saw it.
you guys are so criminally underrated
They have mad rep among musicians in just about every city though. Literally every dope musician in Seattle was in the audience when they came through.
They're not really underrated, most people who know about them think they're the dog's bollocks. They're just underexposed. I suspect that will change, though.
I wouldn't describe that bikini top as underexposed. Sorry........
that keyboard solo has got me rethinking like... everything, man
dude is mighty, i get a lot of chick corea vibes from him. maybe check out the return to forever album "where have i known you before" for more crazy synth noodling, the tracks "vulcan worlds" and "song to the pharoah kings" in particular
Keyboard reminds me of some Emerson, Lake, and Palmer esque licks in there. Super solid stuff!
You'll love this: th-cam.com/video/L_XJ_s5IsQc/w-d-xo.htmlm58s
Rai pulls out one of the greatest keyboard solos of all time here, absolutely nuts
Check out Buckethead by Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, about 3 mins in. Claypool and Buckethead can both get a bit carried away with themselves (an extreme understatement) but the Bernie Worrell keyboard solo is fantastic.
Check out Rai's solo on the newest Knower video It's All Nothing Until it's Everything. Dude is insanely good.
Holy shit. Every single musician is a monster, but the nod in this round goes to Sam "Watch Me Fit This Entire Hallway in my Pocket" Wilkes.
I agree, but a bass player can only be good if the drummer is and Louis Cole is fantastic.
TrumpU Gradguate louis is fucking insane, playing left handed but right footed is so fucking hard, ive been trying to learn but fucking hell
Friendly reminder that if you're hearing this for the first time this is the last time you'll hear it for the first time. Enjoy it
I love how they've slowly increased the number of performers in these live house recording seshes up to a small jazz orchestra.
You'd do well to see their latest single. Now there's a whole brass and string section.
This is actually like 1000x better than the version they have on their Spotify page
dude those lil squaks Genevieve makes give me goosebumps. so subtle but purposeful. wow.
Im always impressed with her live shows (never caught one but I seen a lot on this site) she nails those squeaks everytime!
Top class singer!
Bet you those squacks go to a higher pitch if you slap dem cheeks just right lmao!...Man she beautiful! And this band is SOLID!!
Some nights I break out in a cold sweat thinking about the kick drum at 3:52.
My drummer left town and went to Berklee basically just to spend more time to learn how to get this good with his right foot lmao
i'd love to hear from a drummer but as an avid listener that stood out and made me look him up on the spot a few years back.
fast forward & just saw him live last friday, it was incredible. what a journey, and it all started with this song
My father who recently passed was a lifelong musician playing classical and jazz guitar. His favorite musician at the time of his passing was Louis Cole and absolutely loved this song. Thank you guys I feel closer to my dad now listening to your music.
My dad also recently passed and loved jazz and blues. I sent him this before he passed and he loved it. My condolences for your loss and long live music 🙏🏾🖤
Pretty cool he recognized Louis for what he is, heck yea. Sorry for your loss 🙏
Sam's bass tone just absolutely punches.
Rai is so funky.
Sam Gendel is searing.
Genevieve is incredibly talented.
Louis Cole is Louis Cole.
Gotta say, I way prefer this version to the studio recording.
there is alot of overediting that happens with studio versions. Producers tend to want to add effects and post processing that real listeners dont care for. Live music will always be best
I know I am older than their parents, but I love this band.
Thank goodness there is no age restriction on music: if you like it, you like it.
This is probably the tightest and most technically perfect live performance I've ever seen in my life
Then you've obviously never seen this, because the performance gets even tighter when it's crammed into an outhouse: th-cam.com/video/hT7x1NvGf5k/w-d-xo.html
@@SergeantExtremethat’s impressive and I love CC, but this is literally five people who are ON it.
I love the editing. It's basically showing us all what Louis is thinking as they play through.
This song is so good that people are still discovering and coming back to it 5 years later. Bravo, KNOWER!
I love that the bass player (Sam Wilkes) kind of looks like the captain of the high school math team, but he straps and a bass and turns into bass clef superman.
His little fill at 4.15 stopped the planet for about a minute while it picked its jaw up
Not that every musician shown here isn't absolutely savage, but that bass player just makes it look easy.
I've watched this video so many times lately that whenever I type in 'youtube' Chrome autocorrects it to this video's URL
100% didn't make it up. It stopped doing it after three or four days but it still shows up as the 2nd autocomplete option if I type in the first few letters of youtube
If you ever want to get rid of some autocomplete (for Chrome) entry; press down arrow to highlight the entry and press Shift + Delete.
This is the best version of this song, its just not the same without that solo by Rai.
"Where's the bass solo?" THE WHOLE SONG IS A BASS SOLO.
Jeremy Poyner Check out BLOOD BATH by Genevieve Artadi for more bass awesomeness!
Can I sit in your flat and eat cereal while you guys practice?
Every time I scroll past this comment, I keep thinking it says can I sit on your face?"
Sometimes I forget what it's like to hear really serious musicians making contemporary music. It's so rare these days.
I listen mostly to rock, hip hop and electronic music. Love the tracks but for the most part the level of skill with instruments or live performance leaves something to be desired. One thing that sets KNOWER apart is the chops of everyone involved.
@@ab7dasker Im going to addumr you're familiar with Domi and JD Beck, Thundercat, Anderson paak, Kamasi washington, Terrence martin and them right?
@@aarondx3764 not aware of JD Beck but the others yes. I'll have to check out JD Beck
Overtime is probably my favorite KNOWER song. The live versions are always so good.
I thought this was a good blend between the live version and the studio version.
The 3 against 4 that makes the time cook so hard. This kind of rhythmic invention is so characteristic of Louie's writing. It's a drummer's writing.
When Red Hot Chili Peppers came to Mexico City a couple of years ago, I was so hyped when I realized you guys were opening!! I felt so fuck*ing lucky because I never thought I would see two of my favorite bands by paying only 1 ticket, I loved your performance there, thank you guys.
when i went to the moon it was so cool and epic with only 1 ticket etc etc
bro I got to chill with the whole Knower crew when they came to Poland, it was amazing, felt like I touched god
So so tight, guys, but... holy hell, Wilkes is tearing it up on bass!
I believe he does it multiple times throughout the song.
0:42
1:40
It's fucking awesome.
Sam Wilkes has the bass face of all time.
It makes me chuckle but on the other hand I totally get it, if I was making a sound that funky I’d be boppin’ all over the place too.
It's not fair for something to be this perfect, amazing, and cool in every possible way.
It's not perfect -- there is software which is designed to eliminate all of the inaccuracies.
Nunna Yuh bitness Reverb and compression aren't even unnatural additions.
Reverb happens from reflections and distance, compression is actually achieved by your ears when the SPI of a sound is too loud, the brain naturally attenuates the signals.
That's pretty much all the plugins on this except the master bus limiter.
Also saturation helps! Haha
So, I went to listen to the original song...why does THIS version sound better than the electronic version?
This song makes we want to be a saxophonist, bassist, keyboardist, singer and a drummer. I cant choose
Yeah these guys always increase my enthusiasm for music when i see them
Inspiring every time dude
In the last week since I first heard Clown Core, I think Louis Cole has become one of my favorite musicians ever. Everyone involved here is so mind-blowingly good at what they do, and I CANNOT get these songs out of my head, not that I want to. On top of the overwhelmingly impressive musicianship, Genevieve has such an infectious voice and presence. Everything about this music is perfect and I will be annoying about it and tell everyone I know.
@@MaydupNem I know, but everyone always says that in the comments, so I was led to Louis Cole through Clown Core, and I now I love both, separate artists.
Rai Thistlethwayte. Still one of the best and most underrated modern musicians out there (and all round great dude/good bogan).
I never thought I'd see the Thirsty Merc front man in this arrangement!
Best funk i've heard in my life. Louis has this uncanny sense of melody that makes me even like the jazz parts.
Every single person in this performance is a master of their instrument and watching them play this complex track so tightly live gives me shivers.
If you haven't watched Vulfpeck Live at Madison Square Garden you're in for a treat.
I'm so glad musicians like this exist.
2:30 Why is the cinematography a woman wearing a beekeeping outfit with no pants?
Hey man, if your legs looked that good you'd be walking around without pants too.
you could fit the whole band in Sam's pocket.
@CHEMICA you could say its
scary
hehehhehehe
Scarrrrryy hehehhehehh
Cuz his band heh
We should all strive to be as happy doing what we're good at as that dude is playing the bass.
Playing bass is really satisfying once you can do it well. As someone who’s an amateur whenever you hit a nice solo it’s a great feeling.
@@judithpielsticker2815 keep going, fall in love with your bass it will pay you back
@@bentrod3405 to being able to do it you first should somehow learn how to do it and being able to enjoy study, this is terrible and painful
WHY HAS NO ONE MENTIONED THE CAMERA PERSON IN A BEEKEEPER SUIT
Austin Fletcher I didn't even notice the first time I watched. The funk and humor is overpowering
Austin Fletcher - 1:51 I've heard tale of the rare pantsless beekeepers...
This video proves Louis and Sam are Clown Core. The use of the VHS fuzz, Louis' drumming and the way Sam stands.
That and the music video for Louis' song "mean it". It shows Louis playing the drums and keyboard at the same time.
also the saxophonist from clown core puts black cloth over the bell opening of his sax like Sam does
Yes! younger generation making real music with real chops! As a music producer and recording engineer, it gives me hope!
Totally agree. Rai and Louis only being in their early 40s, I can't wait to see what they come up with during their late 50s and 60s.
3:54 is just SO fucking good, Genevieve and Sam G's blending of voice and sax is absolutely perfect.
Teacher: “The test isn’t that confusing”
The test: *this house*
They are playing in a L shaped room. Drummer is further left, then bassist and keyboard / camera girl are in the corner.
Behind the camera girl is the right part of the room which is sax player and then singer in the back
Btw when I say left/right, perspective is from this dot : L°
I bought a high-end speaker to listen to this. I've been listening to it for a year on repeat. Just can't get enough.
Genevieve's voice is so clean
WOW! Just discovered this band 5 min ago and already in love. No big Hollywood production, just 5 very talented musicians crammed in a small bedroom, killin it! That's what it's all about.
I love your comment but rather than talent its practice and study to be in that level
@@valentinasanchez5757 Yes of course. I've been a musician for over 30 years. I get it. Maybe skilled would be a better word. They look like they all went to a serious music school then started this as a project to express their creativity in a less structured environment. I love the stuff they come up with. Yes I know you can learn music without school like I did but when I see so many skilled musicians of the same age it makes me guess they know each other from school.
I want to simultaneously carry the child of every person that performed in this video.
Those little gasps Genevieve throws in, between razor sharp crystal clean notes...I love her
who gave Vulfpeck amphetamines?
@jcmyint To each their own, taste is taste, but you can't deny they're shit hot musicians.
@jcmyint No offense sir, but denying Wulfpeck's talent is the most retarded thing to do in this universe,
musical tastes apart
Loving this funky vibe a lot more than the older techno style.
Should totally explore this new different direction with the live band members, really enjoy the addition of the sax too.
I had a great time watching you guys play in Poland. Keep up the good work!
João Couto Actually, I think this sounds a lot more like their first album.
I can't stop listening to this. Sam's bass fills with that octave pedal are just too goddamn funky.
I showed this to my hamster, and now he's running so fast, his energy could power the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I haven't seen him in 3 days, send help.
I just so happen to stumble across this Louis Cole guy from a Facebook post.I have been intrigued with him since I've listened to him. I am in my 60s but he takes me back to a place in music that is so familiar. I really really enjoy his music.
this is the superior version. change my mind
I mean... it is the superior version. It is pretty well agreed upon that this is better than the original.
Everything about this video has got my heart working overtime
uhhhhhhhhhhh. what just happened? gosh golly. I mean, no monitors, no click track, live take, a hallway?! ARE YOU JOKING?!
What happened? Monsters got in a hallway; set-up a camera; did 100000000000 takes; came up with this one...
its not live. dunno why the title says it is. a perfect example would be at 2:35, the drummer hits the cymbal and theres no sound.. lol..
You are like a mainstream trojan horse, that even the most lost people, in terms of music taste, will give a chance... And then you inject them with a this fantastic, out of this world, unforgettable music. And before they realize it, they've already become your fans. In other words. You are like some sort of healthy super food, dressed up as a McDonalds burger. And everybody's loving it.
So glad I discovered you. As someone said in the comments, criminally underrated.... STILL. Let's see what happens.
" You are like some sort of healthy super food, dressed up as a McDonalds burger."- Nice one brewh
oskararnarson they're like that super delicious food you didn't KNOW was healthy but is.
Yes, they are easily JUST as good live. You're doing yourself a disservice by not seeing them at every available opportunity!
Actually, I'd say they're better live. The mixing and mastering on a lot of KNOWER tracks doesn't really gel with the band's energy. Louis' solo stuff is more to the point in that manner.
If only they would come to my city. ...but then again, if it wasn't for Mono Neon and Thundercat, I wouldn't know who these people are. For that, I'm grateful
I just saw both Louis and Knower are on tour but it seems only Louis is coming to London D:
"The Government Knows" done in this style with an extended breakdown would be sweeeet!
No clue how I stumbled into this and ClownCore in the last 10 minutes but I’m glad it happened
I've seen this hundreds of times and noticed today that it's Louis Cole asking, "what's the tempo?" You go right ahead and set ALL OUR tempos, good sir!!
Waitaminit? I thought he answered that question by playing the hi hats rhythmically?
Honestly what an absolute dream team this crew is.
give a noble prize to the bassist, damn he's a true beast.
I cannot describe the feeling I have everytime different musicians I love and follow joins in a project, proving me that I am coherent with my musical choices.
Shout out to the incredible Rai Thistlethwayte.
Between Nate Smith and Louis Cole, every other drummer should just sell half their kit until they can make 4-5 pieces sound like that
just realized none of my favorite drummers use rack toms or ride cymbals lol
Most professional drummers can do that. They just graduated up to having Terry Bozzio sized kits.
I need this on spotify
The beekeeper outfit without any pants is a fresh look
Yeah I'm really confused about that... why the beekeeper outfit, and why no pants?
Real people. Wow. This is how life is supposed to feel all of the time.
"if you want to keep it" - perfect pitch between Genevieve and Sam... pushes the song over the top.
I performed this as the closing act for a hotswap drum performance show thing... I can't judge how well I did but some lady came up to me at the end and asked me what the song's name and what band made it... real proud of that one lol, hopefully I put her onto Knower and Louis Cole :)
The bassist looks like all 4 members of Vulfpeck
Oh man. It's so true.
hahahahahahahahahahahaha genius
Jesus Christ you nailed it
You just made me make my first TH-cam comment. But damn are you right.
So weird... I thought the same thing.
