  • In this episode I film a little preventative maintenance on this Honda Accord. It only had 35k miles but being about 8 years old, the timing belt service is due. We replace the t-belt, water pump, t-belt tensioner, front crankshaft seal, serpentine belt tensioner and the customer requested we replace the serpentine belt tensioner.

    Love doing these jobs, as long as there's no surprises, it's always quick and easy.

    That was a lot of work... even with the right tools. HONDA messed up putting a timing belt instead of a timing chain on the v6. Thanks for the video

    Excellent skilled tasks. I wish I am younger again to try doing that jobs for my 2014 Accord V6.
    Only 76653 miles so far.

    What tool setting did you use to take off the 10mm bolts on the upper timing covers? I am having hard time doing that. Maybe because I haven't taken off the engine foot mount section?

    Love this video, will you be doing a valve cover gasket job on this vehicle?

      Not this car specifically but if I get one scheduled for me, I'll be sure to film it.

    A couple of questions: Do you have to change the crank seal, is there a jack under the engine before removing the motor mount?

    • @SkillCollectors
      @SkillCollectors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Negative on the crank seal, we just do it since we're there as preventative maintenance and that passenger side mount does not really support much weight so I remove it without a jack under the oil pan. If it seems like it's sagging excessively though, it wouldn't hurt to put a jack under there to support things until you remove it.

    Assume you meant water pump not oil pump

    Great video. I have the same 2014 Accord V6 with 83k. The dealer told me it was time for a timing belt based on years(7yr). Have you seen many timing belts break based on 7-10 years? I live in the Northeast NY area so not sure if the weather plays a big role. I was hoping to wait until 100K miles. Also, how many hours are this job timing belt, water pump, and tensioner? The dealer wants $1900 including parts, which seems a bit high. Any advice is appreciated, Thanks.

    • @SkillCollectors
      @SkillCollectors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That seems a bit high. We recommend t-belts based on the same schedule though. 7 years or 100k-ish, which ever comes first. I haven't seen any J series belts break but I have seen teeth shear off. Don't remember the mileage on those but they were pretty old. I'd say you're probably ok but plan on doing it within the next 15k. This particular car was one of the easier J series timing belts I have done, takes me a few hours but I also have a lot of experience and can knock these out fast. I don't know our exact pricing but I think our shop charges $1200-ish for this job parts and labor.

    did you have to do crank relearn procedure?

    • @SkillCollectors
      @SkillCollectors  หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my experience, after a timing belt job, I've never had to do that. Usually that's done after replacing the sensor.

    Do you need to replace the cam shaft seals?

    • @SkillCollectors
      @SkillCollectors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only touch them if they're leaking or if I have to disturb the cam shaft (remove the cams), otherwise, I leave them alone, in my experience, J series cam seals almost never leak, even very old and high mileage ones.

    Does the car need to be in drive or neutral to turn the crank bolt to tdc?

    • @SkillCollectors
      @SkillCollectors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's a manual, it has to be in neutral, otherwise, just leaving it in Park is fine.

    Does the engine need support after you take the engine mount off?

    • @SkillCollectors
      @SkillCollectors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, it only drops about an inch or less in most cases.

    Looks like your removing tensioner pulley, tensioner etc. from underneath the car while it’s in the air. How did you support the engine after you removed the motor mount?

    • @Jimmyxsx
      @Jimmyxsx 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Put a floor jack under the oil pan

    • @daveclark8337
      @daveclark8337 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      There's 2 other motor mounts still supporting it, so just removing that one doesn't allow the engine to move much.
