  • Thanksgiving is a National Day of Mourning for some, Native Americans of New England have been hosting an annual protest in Plymouth, Mass. since 1970. While there are several different stories describing the first Thanksgiving, according to the protestors, in 1637, Governor John Winthrop hosted the first Thanksgiving to celebrate the return of soldiers who had massacred 700 native people. The protests are intended to highlight the myth that Native Americans and pilgrims lived together peacefully.

Christopher went to Puerto Rico and made slaves and extinction and tragedy to my ancestors . The tainos were only left with heart break but history paints him as someone good.

This video it was so important because we understanding the two sides of the history, the native people it was treated like nothing, being killed, having their population decimated. So with this important information we can better understand the history of humanity and work to not make the same mistakes as in the past.

I was brought up celebrating thanksgiving but as I got older I seen the truth and I don't celebrate it anymore. I'm pregnant. With my first son and he will know the truth when he is little. Well celebrate native Indians n mourn them on that day. 😁

the more i think about how the Native North Americans were robbed of their land the more i connect the way we treat other nations across the world. haven't we (asking people living in the states) treated other countries like we did with the natives. With all the wars we've engaged in and how we promise many things to them; hope, freedom from tyranny, friendship, and an alliance. in the end didn't we go into other nations with hidden agendas? isn't it the same story being told just in a different land?

to those questioning and stating that if what they're doing is to get what was stolen from them, is plain stupid. i don't believe that's why they're marching down streets of massachusetts shouting, "whose land? our land!" i'm just gonna go on a hunch here and say that they're informing the masses that are willing to listen to the other story of "Thanksgiving", by marching to inform. which was clear to be part of the video.

It's really important we see always the two sides of the things, these it's a really important video, see how they search for a fair recognition it's a necessary thing, maybe we look at this and think that is just land but who says that's only relatedly to lands? It's more than this, it's about respect, an fight an equality. The people really need to know more about the national day of mourning how these video have been opened my eyes about this side of Thanksgiving how I have never listened about, I'm sure that's going opened the others eyes too.

All this time, from other nations from around the globe that is being thought about the history of Christopher Columbus was filled with lies and terrorism this entire time. May the Spirits of the Fallen native americans find rest & peace that are still roaming around America. Where sorry that this act of evil that came from Europe destroyed your way of life as a Native Americans. My Deepest sympathy for your fallen native people for this coming Thanksgiving. :"( <\3

This is a complicated issue to deal with, and I can see it from different sides. I have 12 Mayflower ancestors, as well as many Plymouth settlers afterwards. I am also a descendant of the Aquinnah Wampanoag of Martha's Vineyard and the Shinnecock and Montaukett of Long Island.

The true story of Thanksgiving was hidden from us as we were growing up, it's good to know what really happened.
