    In this quick video I demonstrate how I can fit shiplap cladding with just my one functioning arm. This took a bit of refining, however I think the method I demonstrate is quite efficient as well as productive. I hope you enjoy the video, please give it a 👍 and maybe consider subscribing to the channel. Best wishes, Leo

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Idler and yes it’s scary to think about cost. I think the whole project would have been double which would have meant it simply wouldn’t be getting built

    • @SoundsDopeCom
      @SoundsDopeCom ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Hand-i-Craft Just to humour me I paid about £8.80 for 2.4m lengths a few days back (only a small project so only needed a few boards) do you remember how much you were paying before the prices went mad?

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoundsDopeCom Sadly off the top of my head I couldn’t pick a figure out of the treated lengths of 3x2 I was using, but I definitely bought at the right time when I made the modules.
      I will leave you with this one though. When I bought the keruing boards for the front, I found that as an alternative to the spiralling costs of the likes of Western Red Cedar as I wanted the front to look quite ‘special’. I found the receipt for the keruing boards the other day and I paid just over £900 to fully clad the front with a fair bit of leftovers for other projects. The same amount I bought would cost over £3.5K now 😳, absolutely ridiculous

    Could you please tell me what brad nail gun and air compressor you use please.

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alright Ian, cheers for the message. My nail gun and compressor I got from Rutlands. Compressor is great for small capacity jobs and it’s very quiet. I don’t think they do the same nail gun anymore. Also noticed they are quite a bit more expensive now than what I paid a couple of years ago. They do periodically have offers on though so worth keeping an eye on 👍👍

  • @JohnHavord
    @JohnHavord 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very useful as always. Just interested, why screws and not nails, as most other cladders (is that a word?), seem to use nails?

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question John. The reason I’m going screws is the whole ‘modular’ concept means it can be taken down if necessary and moved. Screws means the cladding can be preserved and used again as opposed to just ripped off👍👍

  • @wilbearworks
    @wilbearworks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good method, Leo. I may pinch the idea. I bought 5000 50mm brads for my Dewalt nailer and now the nailer has stopped working so looks like going down the screw method? What size screws are you using? Keep at it.

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ones I bought are 70mm Wil. Battens are 20mm on the sides and cladding is 18mm. Think I’ll get 100mm though for the stuff going on the front 👍👍

  • @Brick_dont_hit_back
    @Brick_dont_hit_back ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wouldn't be better to nail them.down instead of screws? Just my thoughts 👌🏻

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to remember Andrew, the purpose of this workshop was a modular design so if needed it could be disassembled and moved, hence the screws 👍👍

  • @macsmith6216
    @macsmith6216 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m afraid your going to have problems with this, fixing battons should be 400 centres

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment Mac. What type of problems am I likely to encounter?

    • @macsmith6216
      @macsmith6216 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi
      The maximum recommendation is 600 centres but normally 400
      The distance is too great the cladding will warp, a far higher chance of it popping
      Look at any cladding manufacturers or installation guides, better doing it now rather than later
      Only trying to help, it’s your workshop, it entirely up to you
