357 Max chambered in a rifle, even a singleshot, offers truly great versatility. With a 16 inch barrel as you suggest, would make an excellent saddle or truck gun and a four season performer too. Don't you agree, Mr. Scott? However, this new chambering in the AR platform could offer similar performance as the the Max. In those states where a straight walled cartridge is required, this chambering in the AR platform could solve a number of problems.

If for some foolish reason you do shoot the 9.3 safari caliber you are going to need a few more blocks of gel. From what I’ve seen they tend to squirt out the sides much like 50 bmg.
I have a .357 Maximum....... Use it with my 14" Thompson Contender. Dropped deer out to 200 yards. At 100 yards, groups are always under 2" and infact hang around the 1" diameter range. Have tested various rounds up to 250 grains, but found a 180 grain bullet was about right. This round has been used to harvest a dozen+ deer without 1 loss. I actually took out a 2000lb range bull at 50 yards using a 200 grain round nose. I have never figured out why nobody has chambered a lever action rifle, using this caliber?
This was a great video for my purposes. I'm going to start loading for my .357 Magnum rifle, a Marlin 1894 Cowboy with a 24" barrel. The important takeaway for me was that the 158gr Deep Curl will hold together at speeds in excess of 1,800 fps. Some of the other options I was looking at, such as the Hornady 158gr XTP, come apart in gel tests at those speeds. Looks like I'll be buying some Deep Curl.
Very similar to 357 magnum out of a rifle I've read people get 2000 fps with buffalo bore 158 jsp ammo. Doesn't Lehigh make 357 projectiles? That would make a good round it's already pre-skivved for fragmentation of the petals so it should just push the range further for fragmentation.
I was about to suggest this as a good bullet for a surpressed round, because it preformed so well. But then you said it isn't a great bullet shape for an AR, So...? 😢
When you shoot multiple projectiles in gel it looses integrity. 2 maybe 3 at most. Impressive first couple of shots. After that the depth is compromised by existing wound channels.
I think that's more of a thing with organic ordlance gel, the clear gel doesn't tear and doesn't have wide permanent effects from energetic wound tracks. It's HIGHLY resistant to tearing. While if there's a hole in ordnance gel you can just pull it apart with your hand.
I would love to see some testing of the 450 bushmaster. I’ve had awesome results and great success with that round. This year I managed to take 2 deer with it. One at 250 yards an 8 point the other at 300 yards which was a 10 point. Both Michigan farmland big body deer. I got pass throughs on both. It’s an awesome cartridge. To date I’ve taken 5 deer and one 500 lb hog with it.
350 Legend will still have higher capacities, higher pressures and heavier, more basically efficient bullets. If you're knocking down animals within 50 yards the difference might not be huge, but as animals get bigger and farther away you'll appreciate the difference.
To be fair, you would need to use a 16" barrel .357 magnum rifle. I hunted 2018/19 deer season with a 16" lever gun in .357 magnum. I loaded 158gr deep curl loaded to RIFLE loading data. The rounds chrono'd at 2200 fps +/- 32fps. I took 11 deer that season at ranges averaging 75-90Y. Wound channels were definitive and resulted in instant incapacitation.
