Damn, that's whole lot of granny low, diff-locked teamwork right there. When you get to see machines working in harmony and at the apex of their capabilities, it's just a beautiful thing to watch. Good stuff.
I have always been so fascinated by Australian roadtrains. In 9th grade, some 30 years ago I even wrote an essay about Australian road trains, and my teacher couldn't understand why a kid from Denmark could be so obsessed with big trucks pulling big loads on the other side of the globe! Today I'm a carpenter and still in Denmark, but I still read truck magazines and watch videos of big loads being hauled in Australia.

That would be a thing that you could brag about. As a truck driver I have pull doubles of all kinds. But this is a true road train. And this was a normal day for these guys.
If you can find this, grab it and keep it for future memories! Jeremy Clarkson used to have a weekly column in the English Sunday Times. It was full of absolute gems. Ones that needed Clarkson's insults, those particularly suited to Australians. One Sunday, in 1985 I think, he wrote the creme de la creme of insulting vitriol. It took a short time to get a reaction, allegedly because the only person in OZ, who could read the script back to the local ex-cons was abroad for a week. Good luck if you find it!
Gettin some help from the big old steiger, done a couple of seeding seasons driving a panther here in West Aus, nothing beats the throaty roar of a Cat 3406 at full noise under load.
@@Thadude701 Great old tractors, there are still quite a few of the old original green steigers here in Australia working hard pulling airseeders on Wheatbelt farms, I've driven a lot of different tractors here most of them way more modern and comfortable with quiet fancy cabs and fingertip powershift gears but a big Cat powered steiger is one of my favourites, haha to be honest I'm not ashamed to admit the seasons that I drove the panther I'd often leave the cab door open just so I could hear the growl of the 3406 better 😅
Dont know if it is fake, but it makes sense to have the power ( the tractors ) spread all over a train. When passing the water only one tractor is useless, but the other 4-5 is pulling hard.
The biggest roadtrain I,ve ever seen , by the way , did the guys manage to push - start that steiger ? ( yeah , yeah , I know , just having a larf . ) Australian mateship , just get,s it done .
This is where Diesel power is unmatched, there is more than 10,000 p/f of torque, running through those gears..and if you haven't been to Australia you have no idea what a truck is capable of!!
be tonnes more then 10,000 p/f of torque my land cruiser puts down around 13,000nm in first gear and 32,000nm in low range that Stiger is easily putting down well over 40,000nm each truck would be putting down around 40,000nm in the low gears. but from the sound of the video the trucks are idling along as to not bog the wheels and to even try to put down power the wheels would just spin in that mud. and the numbers for my land cruiser are not from my ass i got curious once and did the math those numbers take in to account gearbox, transfer box, final drive and tire size.

At first take I couldn't understand why this Steiger 4 wheel drive tractor was pulling this truck so slowly. Then I realized it was pulling these trucks (4) and these trailers (12) at a very respectable rate. So much for first opinions!
That is bloody impressive. Wondering if the tractor is doing all the work or the trucks are driving as well. Either way, that's another example of Aussie inginuity and very impressive
The Stieger would be doing all the work. If you listen carefully in the video as the trucks go by, you can't hear engines doing anything other than idling. If they tried to drive they would just dig into the sand. My memory needs jogging...can anyone confirm it was a Stieger a few years back that won a pulling competition somewhere (maybe St George) where the tractor pulled 75 trailers?
unbelievable, what a convoy, hate to have to give way to these guys, would have built the fire, boiled the billy, had a cup of tea and a good leak before they'd passed, that track would be mush
