    I was young when To Bring You My Love came out, and it scared the hell out of me but yet kept bringing me back. Then this dropped when I was in college, and had an opposite reaction. Without any of the bombast I usually expect of her, she kept scaring, bewildering me and bringing back for more. Many years later, Is This Desire is my most beloved albums of hers.

      @borednerd2100 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's it about exactly?

    • @bodycide
      @bodycide 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@borednerd2100 I think on the basic level "The Wind" is about a woman - Catherine but it could anyone - who voluntarily choose to isolate herself from people, and more specifically from men, because her only desire (is it desire?) is to devote herself to God. She is becoming an anchoret, which implies she's already "died to the world". Back to the song's lyrics, I think Polly/the narrator romanticizes, or daydream about, the idea of mystical marriage... which could be perceive to the some extant as an "rebel act" - I mean, how can be that Catherine, this smart, beautiful and sexual woman, renounce any earthly goods, she's (no more) interested in flesh and bones men - What a waste! But I think there's also suggested the other side of a story? a tale (?): it seems like Catherine herself finds it as rather joyful experience (in ancient myths gods - as immaterial deities - always appear to mortals "in disguise" so the wind might represent here God. I mentioned here before about the idea of mystical marriage - and some female mystics can experience God in erotic, sensual way.
      I try to explain as best as I can my interpretation of this song. One of my very fav songs ever written.

    I love this video. It's full of juxtapositions, & anomalies that make sense. What has St. Catherine got to do with Dorset? What has Dorset got to do with New York? Who is the girl who looks like a distorted version of PJ? Why?
    It makes sense in the way that dreams do - is that it? She's drifted off in the cab?
    I love the disgruntled expression on her face when the cop rattles her window. You can almost "hear" her West country accent as she swears at him in her head. Then the street voices end the video. More juxtaposition ...
    Whatever, the video works for me.
    P.S. I like the, totally different, live version just as much.

    First heard this song 20 years ago on the Brokedown Palace soundtrack. Its such an awesome album. 90s music at its best.

    The beat on this song sounds like it was cut out of Madonna's Ray of light album. Listen to Swim or Candy perfume girl and you might hear a similarity in the sound. Although PJ's vocals and the lyrics make this song very original.

      +Janne Järvinen '98 probably was the best year in music, Madonna's Ray Of Light, PJ's Is This Desire ? and months before Bjork's Homogenic

      I'm sorry, but Homogenic came out in September 1997... So these albums didn't came out before but after. Anyway, I don't think they necessarily have influenced one another on those albums. It's more likely that they were influenced by the same artists or producers. But, we're judging them from a 2016 perspective... The more distant in time those album become, the more likely we are to find similarities in them. From what I remember back then (I haden't heard Is This Desire? at the time)... Ray of Light and Homogenic were considered very different styles of music. And Homogenic was regarded as an extremely advanced album in terms of production and arrangements... I remember what I felt the first time I heard it (spring or summer 1998) and it really seemed quite futuristic and sounded like nothing I'd heard before. Ray of Light was very well produced for the time and intersting but certainly not as adventurous as Homogenic.

      The beat is straight out of late '90s UK Big Beat, reminded me most of Bentley Rhythm Ace. One of many sounds Madonna tried to replicate.

    Yo whoever edited this music video is a damn GENIUS ! I instantly connected with it DESPITE the fact that I didn't care much for the content itself, HOWEVERRR... Its like a GENIUS took what he had and said well this is what i got to work with and had to pay attention more to HOW IT WAS USED as opposed to the "THEME" being so important (millions please) ... and it came out GREAT you inspired me to look more closely at how I made my videos with what i had.
