What makes this even more beautiful is the fact that Sammy Davis Jr. was sick and certainly weak, but still loved what he did so much, he got up and danced. The show was taped November 13, 1989. He died six months and three days later. Before he left this world, he knew he was loved. Just beautiful.

I met a man who worked at the Riveria hotel in Las Vegas right before they closed. He told me that when Sammy would perform with the Rat Pack, he couldn't stay there, and he also had to come in through the Kitchen and not the front door. Finally Frank said if Sammy couldn't stay there and come through the front door of the casino, he would not perform there anymore. All of a sudden, Sammy was welcomed with open arms.

I'm crazy about Sammy davis jr, I'm french, à little bite younger than Gregory was, I don't understand what's sammy was singing about, no big deal, my kind of music was hard rock, heavy metal, the crazy 80's van halen, métallica etc etc but now it's still the same when I watch sammy, Mr bojangles etc etc here on utube a tear fall down, great feelings, Great man, same thing about Gregory , they miss me like a family menber. unfortunately, nowadays in France , who cares about sammy, and Gregory? maybe some few .. hope there's heaven, and those 2 mens are happy and peace. Same thing for me, 2 days before leaving home for the army I was listening on my "big Walkman" dream, why can't this be loved ? 1986 " and when I a was at the army, here in France on radio all the days it was " you're in the army now 😁 and" final countdown " Europe. overthing à cd dealer said to me one day u 'll listen classic music or jazz, or both ones, he was right, I like Tchaikovsky, ravel, and also Django, every kind of jazz, it' s more music than especially an artist, I pick up everywhere.

Baker, Ellington, Brubeck etc I like in the first dirty Harry movies , background music's , I call it San Francisco jazz music , with syncop rythm, hurling sax, and strong bass. but some calm, relax like let's get lost etc (sorry, hope you understand me, bad English not easy to explain my thoughts about music, not enough words . 😁) 🎶

To resume I was "closed" in hard Rock music, buddy, girlfriend so, we where a clan, listen over kind of music =no way ! but I already like sammy, one exception= beat it, M Jackson , van halen guitar 😁 a friend was stray cat fan, but nowaday may be I'm too old for this, but here in france a lot of french artist , "singe" = do the same way) , like American RNB in French language , I can't take no more 🤣 , too many french Rihanna here, god help us, I really think I'm too old. same thing for movies, when we try to make a french movie like in American way, it's a disaster 🤣. Exactly act like the others isn't a good way,

By today's standards, Gregory falling to his knees and kissing Sammy's shoes makes him seem submissive and less than a man, but that's because these kids don't understand respect by that time's standards. As a dancer, Gregory always idolized the likes of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, The Nicholas Brothers, and Sammy Davis Jr because they opened doors for dancers like him. But, Sammy always adored Gregory and likewise, Gregory loved and respected Sammy. Gregory kissing the feet that inspired him as a dancer was the ultimate show of respect. Plus, Sammy was suffering from throat cancer at the time and still matched Gregory step for step. You gotta respect that. May the teacher and his prized student both rest peacefully.
