This show had such an amazing script and acting. The build up was just phenomenal. The hospital scene with his mom was out of this world, that surely sealed his Emmy win.
The thing that makes him truly terrifying is his ability to detach. If he never cared about anything or anyone at all, it wouldn't hit as hard, because it's what you'd expect. This series is so good that it makes you see The Batman in a different light and even makes it a little better, because it makes it clear that the little time we saw of Oz in the film and that everything he said must have all been lies and part of his plan without revealing it
rewatching the penguin knowing Oz is a complete power hungry void is like the 6th sense, puts every single scene with oz in a completely different context.

In the end his self-centered nature could not even give his mother what she ultimately wanted in being allowed to die if something happened to her. Instead, she stays trapped even crying as shown in the scene as he brags about all of his accomplishments. What's interesting is his "girlfriend" is Eve Karlo. Karlo is the last name of the man who would become Clayface and she herself is doing lots with wigs etc.
It was perfect. The fact that he kills Vic to "remove his heart" but knowing the way they developed his character, I think he started seeing him as a future threat after Vic pulled the gang move. Even Oz said, "I didn't even see that."
When he said "Squeeky clean!" I knew what was up, my heart dropped for a second. That was the moment he decided he had to do, what he does at the end. Cause he wouldn't be "squeeky" clean, if he didn't.
the cool take with this show is that for a lot of it, they had us on penguins side. which is the same type of feelings many in gotham have, which is part of what helps oz rise up to power and will potentially help him delve into politics. he's manipulative and very convincing in doing so. and only when we see the things behind the scenes that oz wants nobody else to see or know do we get a true glimpse into who he truly is. masterpiece!

The song 19:35 is a song that Nirvana covered in their acoustic unplugged show. The connection is Nirvana. They had a song in The Batman. Also, what if Colin Farrell won both an Emmy & an Oscar for the same character?
I love the Bat-Signal as a note to end the Penguin on- the reminder that Oswald’s success is fleeting, flimsy, and worthless, all his effort and treachery stymied by the inescapable fact that he’s in a piece of Superhero media.
Calvin from Blindwave said it the best "The city took him". The funny thing is that Gotham keeps Bruce insane. We can argue that its the people, but at this point the city itself really is evil :DD It keeps taking and taking. The abyss that Bruce keeps talking about and how he stands on the very edge of it. Never thought to look at it from this angle, but Gotham IS The Abyss.
And remember, his mom told him if her mind goes before her body, to put her out of her misery, instead, he keeps her in it. Sigh😢 Graciela literally told him nothing good could come from working with a guy like Oz, too. And remember when Oz first met Vic too, he told him he would keep him alive, "for now". He just kept gassing Vic up about it's all about them and history would be kind to them etc, and the sad part about it is, Vic had the chance to leave and came back. His death hit me in a way I never felt for any character on any show. You knew it was coming and it still hurt 😭
Dont forget IGN gave this show a 5 out of 10, no idea what show they watched but one of the better shows in recent memory and those 2 lead performances deserve all the awards.
Why are folks surprised!! ... he "openly" said, time & time again ... he is a BAD GUY! . A marvellous spin doctor, but at his core, he never changed. Riddle me this "A leopard never changes it's".... ?
Seriously, Vic shouldn't have trusted Oz, but seriously, his death hurts a lot. And what I hope is that he will be made to pay when Batman confronts him, along with Sophia and Selina together.
I mean, obviously, Oz is full of evil, but in Gotham, where you have seen what families have done to one another, plus if you go to war with Riddler or Joker for control of the city, you can't have any attachment to anybody at all, or they will exploit that attachment and eliminate them, especially Joker (depending on what they do with that interpretation).
Vic was the last faint thread of conscience left for Oswald, a kind of moral safeguard in this crime-ridden farce of a world. Through their complex relationship, we even start to feel a strange affection for the Penguin. Because yes, Oswald Cobblepot is still a villain - but in this series, where goodness is already rotting away, we find ourselves strangely wanting him to win. Then, everything changes. In an instant, Vic’s brutal death shifts the whole dynamic. Suddenly, the dark “hero” we were rooting for with guilty devotion becomes someone we want to see fall, and fall hard! Now, with no one left to challenge him... who will avenge our Vic? WHO??? His selfishness becomes painfully obvious, almost pathetic. And when he stands before his mother in that final scene, seeing her tear and mistaking it for a sign of joy, he blinds himself to the truth until the end. That tear means nothing of the sort: remember, she made him promise to end her life if it ever came to this. But now, Oswald has lost every shred of nobility, both for her and for himself. And the tragic irony is complete. When he finishes Vic, he delivers this sentence: “Family makes you weak.” Yet who does he keep close to him but his own mother? He held onto this final bond just to keep her for himself. Certainly not to share her with Vic.
I was watching The Gladiator, Ceaser talking to Commodorus and how he failed him as a father. When Commodorus started saying ¨I would have butchered the whole world¨and pressing Ceaser against his chest what! My oh my! I remember these verse on the Bible ¨Proverbs 4:19 ¨The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know over what they stumble.¨

Farrell is up there with Ledger and D'onofrio as all time comic villain portrayals..truly a diabolical performance. Batman get his ass!
Was waiting whole day for this one! Lets go!!!
The song 19:35 is a song that Nirvana covered in their acoustic unplugged show. The connection is Nirvana. They had a song in The Batman.
Also, what if Colin Farrell won both an Emmy & an Oscar for the same character?
I knew Vic was dying when he mentioned family to the guy that’s killed most of his family! 💀
This gave me "dont look at me, puppet" vibes
I love the Bat-Signal as a note to end the Penguin on- the reminder that Oswald’s success is fleeting, flimsy, and worthless, all his effort and treachery stymied by the inescapable fact that he’s in a piece of Superhero media.
Writers hit us with the Genjustsu and said forget all the rooting a lot of us did for Oz😂
Calvin from Blindwave said it the best "The city took him". The funny thing is that Gotham keeps Bruce insane. We can argue that its the people, but at this point the city itself really is evil :DD
It keeps taking and taking. The abyss that Bruce keeps talking about and how he stands on the very edge of it. Never thought to look at it from this angle, but Gotham IS The Abyss.
And remember, his mom told him if her mind goes before her body, to put her out of her misery, instead, he keeps her in it. Sigh😢
Graciela literally told him nothing good could come from working with a guy like Oz, too.
RIP VIC
I’m speechless. What a show, man!
What a journey it has been! Batman go after Oz! Loved seeing the signal!
So at the meetup after the Sat panels we did say that this show had the most potential, seems we were right.
FYI DC has a Lazarus pit that can bring people back to life
So good. Penguin aside... amazing series... but the last two episodes made me really want to see a 100 Bullets series with LeFranc running the show.
Legit when I was done watching I was like yeah Batman needs to get him LOL
Seriously, Vic shouldn't have trusted Oz, but seriously, his death hurts a lot. And what I hope is that he will be made to pay when Batman confronts him, along with Sophia and Selina together.
The court had some owl imagery 👀
I mean, obviously, Oz is full of evil, but in Gotham, where you have seen what families have done to one another, plus if you go to war with Riddler or Joker for control of the city, you can't have any attachment to anybody at all, or they will exploit that attachment and eliminate them, especially Joker (depending on what they do with that interpretation).
I want to see a deep dive into the Riddler next.
9:06 evil maniacal Hector laugh 😂
Amazing episode!
16:56 did Hector just say that Colin Ferrell can get it? 😂😂😂
36:54 also, yes. Well said, Augustin.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The guy he immediately shot walking out with Ma was the detective that hit him to end the last episode.
