Man Colin Farrell was absolutely right about the ending of the show."By the end of the show you will really hate him." Poor Vic man, now I just want to see Batman coming after him and beat him up. Brilliant show and looking forward to seeing Batman 2.
At this point, I can’t understand why anyone would still try to justify Penguin’s actions, whether from his childhood or adulthood. While he may have had some humanizing moments, and I appreciate those who try to see the humanity in people, he was fully aware of his choices at every stage. If that wasn’t enough, the finale's ending made it crystal clear that he’s truly a dirty bird and a full-fledged villain.
I am the type of person who sees people as a product of their environment. In a sense that a person can DO what they want, but they can't CHOOSE what they want. That perspective helps you empathize with pretty much anyone.
Show runner Lauren LeFranc said that the title “A Great And Little Thing” is a quote from “The Ballad Of Reading Gaol” by Oscar Wilde that Colin Farrell gave her, and it’s about how each man destroys the thing he loves. So she thought it was a perfectly apt title for this shocking finale. She always thought of this show as a tragedy to its core, and goddamnit if it isn’t one of the most tragic endings of any tv series I’ve ever seen!
Ngl the Vic death really ran flat for me, it was a pretty obvious thing it felt like just with what he did with everyone else, and it felt like they just did this because they kept everyone alive and left a cliffhanger, Kept Eve and His Mom and Sofia alive all that has been weaknesses of his and also all of them have turned on him, Vic actually had some use by Oz still, I feel like this death should of been something to happen in the movie, if Batman spoils Oz first plan or something, get vic some screen time in the movie, get him over with fans in the movie (because more people are gonna watch the movie then the show) like they did in the show and then do this scene, I think it hits much harder. It felt like they just did to have some kind of twist because they kept Sofia alive and his mom a vegetable, and just so he has some weaknesses.
@@jethrojacinto2798 thats just plain fuckin false. Yeah he's a villain but he's the star of a show that's all about villains and the response to this series proves that the audience wanted him to come out on top and go from being just a villain to being THE villain.
See, this is where DC truly excels, in my opinion, when it leans into its darker and more mature themes paired with competent writing. That’s not to say they can’t succeed with lighter stories because they absolutely can (I’m sure Gunn can make that happen in parts of the DCU). However, it’s their willingness to take risks and explore the darker, more complex side of storytelling that sets them apart and makes those narratives so impactful.
That last shot of the snowy penthouse with the gothic architecture and the batsignal is pure arkham verse and I love it. I genuinely feel they could make so much good content from this universe it's my favourite gotham put on screen and a snowy batman 2 sounds incredible
In a time where huge cameos are everywhere in comic book movies and shows (which is great if done appropriately), I appreciate that this series mostly took the opposite approach. It made a bold choice, knowing some might be disappointed not to see someone like Batman, and I respect that decision. Because instead of relying on big names like Batman, it focused on developing the main characters unique to this story. The little cameos we did get, like Magpie, Carmine Falcone, a mention of Selina Kyle, and the Bat-Signal felt enough and added to the world without overshadowing it. But man. What a show this was. Huge round of applause to everyone involved. Hyped for The Batman II now.
That to me is the beauty of Batman's stories and the universe from the comics, you can focus on villains, sidekicks or just Gordon and you can have a freaking great movie/tv show without Bats. I mean Gotham was a good tv show (until the quality dropped) without the actual Batman, we had the Joker movie that was great (not Folie a deuche XD) and now this show that was great! Is not by coincidence that Batman is one of the most popular heroes ever, his villains are as interesting and complex as the Dark Knight himself.
I have to say. Was I happy after the finale, no. But I think it ended perfectly because we as the audience were betrayed by the penguin, absolutely solidifying his character as an unredeemable monster.
Bruh he even threw the ID into the water. Vic's a John Doe now and he didn't even honor his mom's wishes. 😭 What a monster. Get Batman in here. Justice for Vic.
The sick twist is that, he promised Vic that he has a chance to be somebody if he works for him. In the end, he even lost his name. He is more of a nobody than before
Finally a superhero show who gives you a villain. And it’s not a coincidense that came from Batman. No sugar coating, no “we have to understand his motives”, “he has a good cause, just the means are wrong”. No! Not at all. The Penguim is a straight up, full blown, villain. He’s just evil. We need that.
I mean, the fact that we know his story and his motives are what make this penguin compelling. But the "story and motives" don't always have to be nice ones. Oz's certainly aren't.
Lucasfilm and Marvel better take notes. They want female writers so badly but always hire the worst ones. Lauren LeFranc should get more work after this because she’s better than basically all the female writers Marvel and Lucasfilm have had
@@jkm1458more critically, Sony or at least all the people on their payroll need to realize you CAN dramatize villains as protagonists, but you need to work; everybody on this show worked _hard_
I love the Bat-Signal as a note to end the Penguin on- the reminder that Oswald’s success is fleeting, flimsy, and worthless, all his effort and treachery stymied by the inescapable fact that he’s in a piece of Superhero media.
There’s no competition, this is the most terrifying, formidable, devious, and ABSOLUTELY DESPICABLE version of The Penguin that has ever been made! Please give us The Batman 2 already so we can get more of Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, and please have Batman beat him so fucking badly that he winds up somehow even MORE disfigured. Like do what they did to him in the Arkham games and shove the bottom of a whiskey glass into his eye so it looks like a giant monocle. For Victor!
The Penguin of Batman Earth 1 narrowly edges this monster out of the top spot, but it’s close. Keeping the Birthday Boy, a serial child-killer, on retainer as a hitman? That’s pretty low.
Vic's death is tragic, man. He effectively died a nobody. Another unknown person lost to the corruption of Gotham. He wanted more for his life, but just got swallowed by the unforgiving world of Gotham.
@ yep I like Vic but whatever life he had was ruined not at the end but as soon as he met penguin funny enough he would have probably been alive in another gang
And remember, his mom told him if her mind goes before her body, to put her out of her misery, instead, he keeps her in it. Sigh😢 Graciela literally told him nothing good could come from working with a guy like Oz, too. And remember when Oz first met Vic too, he told him he would keep him alive, "for now". He just kept gassing Vic up about it's all about them and history would be kind to them etc, and the sad part about it is, Vic had the chance to leave and came back. His death hit me in a way I never felt for any character on any show. You knew it was coming and it still hurt 😭
Aside from penguin killing Victor because he cared to much about him I also like that he flipped all of the lieutenants to kill their gang heads, meanwhile he killed his lieutenant therefore Victor can’t never make a play for his spot. Victor could’ve made out good in the end if he made a play with Link to kill Oswald and Zhao, but he was too good for this life. Should’ve left on that bus really.
Sofia survived, but now she’s living a fate worse than death ending up back in Arkham (which honestly practically is hell), but now she knows that she has a sister in Selina Kyle. Question is, Selina will try to find some way to get her sister out of Arkham? Sofia might be family, but how many people died in that explosion she caused?
I have a feeling the letter is Selina telling Sofia that she knows their dad is actually the one that killed all those girls. Including both their mothers. I think Sofia isn’t in as bad of a position as she thinks. She has a friend on the inside with Dr. Rush. And she now has an ally on the outside. She’s in shock right now, but I have a feeling sooner or later she’ll realize she can still influence things from within Arkham.
@@fightingfaerie completely agree, and if they were to team up it would probably end with sofia moving away still. Unless she can't let go of vengeance for Oz
The moment Sofia learned about Selina Kyle, it was a glimmer of hope in her otherwise dark existence. I believe this was the end of Sofia character and it wasn't that tragic. She still had a family out there who cared for her.
@@marlboroni-y7s could be, its not a bad ending. More bitter sweet. But with the performance Cristin put on in this show you have to admit, anyone would be like, let's get scary eyes sofia back in for a final showdown. @@jackfrancismccann1365 We all want to see more of her performance but I see no direction for Sofia character in upcoming movies. She lost everything. He already sent her to Arkham to punish her. He wanted her to live a life that's worse than death. People think she's crazy so they won't buy anything she says.
The way my jaw DROPPED when the cops showed up for Sofia🤯 It was the best kind of twist: you can retroactively see it coming, but it still hit like a gut punch. If this show doesn't get nominated for best limited series we RIOT!

On a subconscious level Oswald knows what Francis said to him was the truth and he punished her by keeping her “alive”. I’m just waiting for a scene in Batman 2 with Bats in a very familiar penthouse.
No, I reacted to that too. So odd. I am a person who cries soooo easy, yet she cries at places I don't get at all. Then, the saddest most horrible scene in the whole series, she doesn't. It was so strange.
Yeah the crying at every single scene is seriously way past annoying. Let's hope for any future reactions they they get back to it just being the crew.
Why is she crying for the spawn child of Dahmer and Bundy? This is why I'm glad this show made the villian, the VILLIAN. Empathizing with the devil is wild work. 🦇
As painful as it would have been, he deserved to be in a psychiatric ward. But it's Gotham and I am not sure if any authority would have been able to offer help with his mental health. 😢😢
Hollywood take notice: the VILLAIN needs to stay the VILLAIN. They can have good attributes (ie charming, smart, funny etc) but it should never take away from the fact that they are a bad person. As much as it broke me to see Vic die …especially the way that he did…..I loved it from a storyline perspective. It showcased a full circle moment that Oz since childhood only cared about himself. I can’t WAIT to see Batman kick his azz lol
In the end Ozwald may have had some humanizing moments throughout the show. But ultimately was and always will be the villain of the story and a reminder he’s one of Batman’s greatest enemies 🐧
Welp...at least Sofia is still alive. I really want to know what was in that letter that made her smile and I hope she meets Selina in the Batman 2. They could definitely cause some trouble!
42:57 When Oz told his mom that his brothers went to the movies, that's when you know he intended for his brothers to never return -- if he thought they would find their way out of the tunnels and come home, his lie would be immediately found out and he'd get in trouble with him mom for leaving them there AND lying to her. Oz was so desperate for his mother's love that he'd never risk doing things that would make her angry at him. He told the lie about the movies knowing they wouldn't return to contradict him.
I always had a feeling this is how it would end. Sofia wasn’t born a monster but Oz was, and it’s been shown time and time again. It’s why she was the scapegoat for Falcone. It’s why she couldn’t kill her niece. It’s why she couldn’t off Francis. It’s even why she decides to team up with Sam instead of killing him while at his lowest. But Oz? He wouldn’t have hesitated if he was in her position. And it’s why he “wins” in the end - because it takes a monster to run this type of game. I honestly feel like death would’ve been a merciful end for Sofia…she wanted to be free and it doesn’t get much freer than death. But Oz knew that, and it’s part of the reason he gets her thrown back into Arkham instead. A fate worse than death.
Also, the fact that oz never really had to admit to his sins in the past while being in a focred therapy session with sofia. he saw how his actions affected his mother, yes his mother, but as we seen, oz really doesn't care unless it affects him. And with his mother uaving a stroke right stabbing him, he never had to confront or face what he did truely by having to admit to it. And later he lies to vic and says sofia stabs him, a lie he probably chooses to believe himself. And then Eve helping him live on with the delusion. He is truly psychotic.
I was close but yeah BLEAK… I thought for sure Penguin would leave Vic to get sent up and stitched in Blackgate or something, like when Walter White cleaned house; turns out they went even more personal
I love they had the balls to made him completly the villain in the end. He was already a monster but you could see some humanity on him, then he kills that part of himself.
The only reason I stopped believing Vic would die is because.. it was over. Sofia was arrested, Oz’s mom was mentally gone, any sense of threat was non existent. I legit was thinking “Vic lived!” because wtf could happen in 10 minutes and then I got my answer and it was expected but my guard was down at that point
I think the BEST, if not morbid, part about what Oz did to Victor is that he knows from firsthand experience that loyalty will only reign in a person for so long. Oz fears Victor will have his OWN ambitions for power one day and will backstab Oz. I can't wait for his his ass to get beat by batman in part 2. I can see how THIS version would be the kingpin for all of Gotham's criminals underworld.
Well, he also sees Vic as a weakness, or so he tells himself that. He's such a pathological liar. He lies all the time about everything and even believes his lies. Regardless of that, his reign of power meant he had to look clean, and having someone like Victor would make him look suspicious, so he had to get rid of him and throw his ID so that he couldn't be identified and traced to him
Why are they giving Penguin so much credit. He had already decided to kill Vic. He did not kill him because Vic used the word family. And yes he clearly knew that his brothers were gonna die when the heavy rain came. He sees his mom as a possession. Sophia is right that he cares about his mom but not enough. He was ok letting her figure be cut off and didn’t honor her wishes to be a vegetable. Not sure how anyone can still love Penguin. He is a great villain but not lovable.
It bothers me that the lady didn’t cry when Vic died…geeze I mean she cried for everything else! Didn’t my man Vic deserve even a tear, a sniff, a sob…so disappointed 😢🤪🥺😅
I love how despite how bleak the episode ends, Batman’s signal acts as a sign of hope at the end of this show, as if to say Oz will get what he deserves! I also love that they play a cover of a Nirvana song, “where did you sleep last night” when Sofia is burning the house down
I was always on the penguins side and I wanted him to win, and he did win but in the darkest ways possible. I’m happy how things concluded because we needed Oswald to get to this point but I am so sad about Vic, but I knew his death was coming. I’m glad to see Sophia ended up back in Arkham because she abandoned her niece Gia in a Gotham orphanage, and based on the description that the riddler gave what could be worse? Also justice for magpie.
Vic came from nothing and wanted to make a name for himself, penguin sold him on being remembered by history and running this town. In the end he takes his ID, leaving him an unknown dead male with no family to ID him
When Vic didn't go on the bus, i was hitting my screen and yelling No No like freaking Cooper in Interstellar because I know who The Penguin is. He's straight up Evil and unhinged in literally every adaptation and Comic.
They really did such a great job establishing what an asshole Oz really is. He's the least Comic Book villain of all time - he's an actual villain in the most evil way possible. What an asshole! What a show! What an accomplishment from Colin Farrell and the team. God damn I look forward to seeing how Batman deals with him.
They make you symphatize with oswald and his relationship with Vic and his mom. Then by the end they show you this horrible thing he did as a kid and now you're not sure if you want to keep rooting for him. Then he kills Vic, showing you the villain he still is and that you can't root for a villain. 10/10 show overall, amazing🔥 love it and hate it at the same time😭
I definitely want this to be the only penguin. Let this masterpiece stand alone as it is (as they should have done with the joker). If they really want to continue with this, they should just do this style of show for another Batman villian. Like imagine a one off season focusing on Mr. Freeze or some other less featured Batman villain. They obviously got a lot of material to work with, no need to re hash areas that have already been explored.
My favorite villain of Batman was always The Joker, but with this series and the brilliant performance of Colin, The Penguin just became my #1!! Good to know we see more of him in the future!!
The Penguin is my most hated villain and my favorite was Riddler from The Batman because I enjoy solving puzzles. Joker's energy has always felt too chaotic for me ever since the original movie with Jack Nicholson, but I get why people like him, especially after Heath Ledger's performance.
Hr said people would remeber their names oz and vic Aguilar and he robbed he threw his ID in the river and made him a john doe. The penguin is literally the lowest of the low. A worm
The thing no one have realised until the end was that the show was manipulating the audience the same way that Penguin was manipulating everyone in the show...
Killed his brother, drowning them. Vic's family died in Gotham's waters, drowning. Promised Vic he will be remembered, but he dies a nobody. Took his wallet (just another statistic of some druggie robbing and killing him)(No family to come looking for him, to remember him) and threw his card into Gotham's water, drowning him as a nobody, just like his family. Man what a show.
After seeing the penguin finish off this episode... I hated him so much . And seeing the Batman symbol gave me a feel of hope ... I'm wondering if that was the point .
remember the villain is the hero of their own story and this whole show was oz's story, and we see him become the villain and what does a hero need a villain that is why he did what he did to sofia and sal he made sure to make them into the villains and for him to complete his transition into the villain he needed to get rid of the two things that was keeping grounded he killed vic and his mother is in a vegetable state
BTW, if anyone wants to see Cristin Milioti in another superhero show, I HIGHLY recommend giving hit-monkey a a try. It's an gem and underrated show that I don't see anyone talk about.

I need Batman to break every bone in Oz’s body. I need it. But I want Sofia to get to kill him.
I hope so too!
They nailed the landing . This show is a masterpiece from beginning to end . Now time for a rewatch now knowing how it ends & catch small details .

Everyone gone from rooting for Penguin the whole time to rooting for Batman to kick his fuckin ass...
Exactly how I feel. Which is why this show succeeded where other shows failed when it comes to villains.
No one was rooting for the Penguin man wtf are you talking about. He’s a villain for a reason
@@jethrojacinto2798 thats just plain fuckin false. Yeah he's a villain but he's the star of a show that's all about villains and the response to this series proves that the audience wanted him to come out on top and go from being just a villain to being THE villain.
@@jethrojacinto2798you must be the kinda guy to immediately start hating on something as soon as it gets even semi-popular just to seem interesting
Honestly? I didn't think of Batman once. The story was gripping without him...the Bat Signal at the end was a great touch, tho!
I had no idea what to expect from this show right up until the last scene and I think that’s the beauty of it.
The Batsignal in the end gave me chills🙏

True!!
I 😂😂 we absolutely understand Oz’s motives.
That’s pretty low.
victors ID in the water I think symbolizes how his family died from the riddler floods
Also he wanted to be remembered by history and make a name for himself and in the end he’s left unidentified and dead, with no family to ID Him
It also speaks to Penguin’s emphasis of names, and how he now wants to wash away Vic and his name
And remember, his mom told him if her mind goes before her body, to put her out of her misery, instead, he keeps her in it. Sigh😢
Graciela literally told him nothing good could come from working with a guy like Oz, too.
IM HURT!!!! VIC WAS MY EVERYTHING WHY
I know. 😢

Aside from penguin killing Victor because he cared to much about him I also like that he flipped all of the lieutenants to kill their gang heads, meanwhile he killed his lieutenant therefore Victor can’t never make a play for his spot. Victor could’ve made out good in the end if he made a play with Link to kill
Oswald and Zhao, but he was too good for this life.
Her territories fell into Penguin's hands, I do believe Link will operate it but Penguin is the one behind pulling strings. I don't think Penguin would want to kill her.

Let's Go! They absolutely stuck the landing and I can't wait for more form this universe. This show was great from start to finish.
On a subconscious level Oswald knows what Francis said to him was the truth and he punished her by keeping her “alive”.
I’m just waiting for a scene in Batman 2 with Bats in a very familiar penthouse.
Oof, that's vindictive, dark and sadistic af.
It felt like Melanie cried in literally every single scene of this show, except for Vics death???😂 am I the only one thinking about this?😂
No, I reacted to that too.
Yeah most of it seems fake, but Vic's death is more shocking than sad. It is sad too but shocking and tragic more.
Why is she crying for the spawn child of Dahmer and Bundy? This is why I'm glad this show made the villian, the VILLIAN. Empathizing with the devil is wild work. 🦇
That's rough for Oz's mom. What do you do when you know your child is a psychopath?
and the tear! she is fully aware! Diabolical!
Bro Melanie you cry too damn much XD
In the end Ozwald may have had some humanizing moments throughout the show. But ultimately was and always will be the villain of the story and a reminder he’s one of Batman’s greatest enemies 🐧
The murder of Vic broke me, the Penguin is one evil SOB.
Victor was the best man. I'm pretty sure he was the majority of people's favorite character. So heartbreaking. Pour one for vic 🍾🍾🍾
Welp...at least Sofia is still alive. I really want to know what was in that letter that made her smile and I hope she meets Selina in the Batman 2. They could definitely cause some trouble!
Since Maroni is dead, I wonder if they'll work in Sofia (or maybe Penguin) in the role of the Two Face origin.

The bat signal shining at the last moment was the perfect ending.
The Greatest Take on the Penguin on screen period.
That lady on panel keeps crying. So annoying
You all already know what scene we came to see
Colin farell’s eyes when Oz kills vic 😨 He is acting the hell out of this role. Emmy coming
The bat signal at the end was amazing
Also, the fact that oz never really had to admit to his sins in the past while being in a focred therapy session with sofia. he saw how his actions affected his mother, yes his mother, but as we seen, oz really doesn't care unless it affects him. And with his mother uaving a stroke right stabbing him, he never had to confront or face what he did truely by having to admit to it. And later he lies to vic and says sofia stabs him, a lie he probably chooses to believe himself. And then Eve helping him live on with the delusion. He is truly psychotic.
All the theories people made, and the finale was 100 times darker than anyone couldve imagine
I was close but yeah BLEAK…
I thought for sure Penguin would leave Vic to get sent up and stitched in Blackgate or something, like when Walter White cleaned house; turns out they went even more personal
I love they had the balls to made him completly the villain in the end. He was already a monster but you could see some humanity on him, then he kills that part of himself.
The Batman 2 better open with a 30 minute one-take of Bruce doing Arkham combos on Oz
Enjoyed going on this journey with you four. Great reactions as always. A+ show. Bring on The Batman 2! And RIP Vic.
A sad thing that’s overlooked is Penguin keeping his mother alive even after promising not to.
God dammit Vic 😭😔 should've left with his girl
I love how the series gives you the feeling that Oz is now a real big player, but reminds you that there's still a MF like Batman.
Regardless of that, his reign of power meant he had to look clean, and having someone like Victor would make him look suspicious, so he had to get rid of him and throw his ID so that he couldn't be identified and traced to him
That’s definitely part of it, but Vic seals his fate when he calls Oz “family”… that’s why Oz lets out that long FFFFFF
He is a great villain and we love him for it. Batman would be incredibly boring without them.
It bothers me that the lady didn’t cry when Vic died…geeze I mean she cried for everything else! Didn’t my man Vic deserve even a tear, a sniff, a sob…so disappointed 😢🤪🥺😅
Yeah, she cries for every little thing, especially the scenes that don't make sense.
I love how despite how bleak the episode ends, Batman’s signal acts as a sign of hope at the end of this show, as if to say Oz will get what he deserves!
I also love that they play a cover of a Nirvana song, “where did you sleep last night” when Sofia is burning the house down
Vengeance for Vic 🦇
The scene with Oz and his mom was a perfect example of Gaslighting.
I am sooooooo happy that Sofia survived. I really hope she shares the screen w Batman sometime!
Vic was so loyal and innocent that even after being betrayed
At the last moment he is say "am sorry" 😞 this is really sad
They really did such a great job establishing what an asshole Oz really is. He's the least Comic Book villain of all time - he's an actual villain in the most evil way possible. What an asshole! What a show! What an accomplishment from Colin Farrell and the team.
God damn I look forward to seeing how Batman deals with him.
Penguin literally betrayed everyone, every single person he came across and cost them death 99% of the time lol
They make you symphatize with oswald and his relationship with Vic and his mom. Then by the end they show you this horrible thing he did as a kid and now you're not sure if you want to keep rooting for him. Then he kills Vic, showing you the villain he still is and that you can't root for a villain. 10/10 show overall, amazing🔥 love it and hate it at the same time😭
Give HBO all the Awards. Best show of the year. Bravo DC Studios and Matt Reeves
I hope no one is taking a drink every time Melanie cries, over the littlest thing.... thats going play havoc with your liver
Apple doesn't want villains to use their products because they are afraid those villains will upstage them.
Penguin: well if you thought he was bad in the beginning well he’s about to get a whole lot worse
The Penguin is finally free from weaknesses that can be used against him. As for Vic, yeah it's sad when they go young like that.
Sophia thinks she’s different but how many innocents did she kill with that bombing
She did take a swing that Carmine maybe wouldn’t, but she unknowingly lived up to her public reputation
After seeing the penguin finish off this episode... I hated him so much .
And seeing the Batman symbol gave me a feel of hope ...
I'm wondering if that was the point .
This show was such a great story, from start to finish, I can’t wait for Batman 2
This is why we need shows about villains.

I hope Batman knows about Victor's death. Would be sweet if he threatens the Penguin by bringing up the boy he murdered
An outstanding show...
My first thought before this reaction started was 'pass the largest box of tissues you have to Melanie'.
remember the villain is the hero of their own story and this whole show was oz's story, and we see him become the villain and what does a hero need a villain that is why he did what he did to sofia and sal he made sure to make them into the villains and for him to complete his transition into the villain he needed to get rid of the two things that was keeping grounded he killed vic and his mother is in a vegetable state
