@@SuperVideoman2012yeah I feel like a lot of people are misdiagnosing themselves with this video. I have had days where I feel tired even after 12 hours of sleep but it’s often bc I’m a night owl and weekdays of work I sleep less, and I’m basically making up for it on the weekend. I’m often up til like 4-5 am. If I finally one day get a freaking normal sleep schedule I’d be fine, and I’m assuming most people as well.

It’s about sleep consistency. If I get into a routine where I need to be up at the same time every morning (5am, 7am, 11am), dépendant in work and when I go to the gym, when I go to sleep I’ll slip into that pattern. I’m a night owl, but when I have to consistently wake up at 4am to get the first bus so I can go to gym before work, then work a 9 hour day, I will be go to bed at 9pm expecting to watch a film and as soon as I lie I fall asleep.

I'm SO GLAD people are starting to talk about this condition. I have hypersomnia and chronic fatigue. These conditions are hell without medication for me. When the Adderall shortage was at its worst, I was disappointed to see nobody acknowledging that many with hypersomnia, CFS, POTS, and/or narcolepsy really need the medication more than anyone else. Without stimulants, many of us can't drive, work, or live a fulfilling, happy life. I've spent many years being gaslit by my mother and teachers, telling me that I just "need to eat better," "get more sleep" or "get more exercise." I was lucky enough when my doctors took me seriously, but that isn't the case for everyone. Turns out being tired or fatigued all of the time isn't usually one's fault. I wish more people were aware that such symptoms are often out of someone's control, sometimes almost entirely, and aren't "excuses."

@@RoronoaEmi I'm not sure about specifics words, but what seemed to help was having a witness. The fact that you feel awake at any time of the day sounds more like circadian rhythm rather than hypersomnia, when you feel sleepy from the moment you wake up to when you fall asleep.
It could be that your circadian rhythm is out of whack, unless you have always been a night bird like me. It doesn't matter how long I follow the routine of early to rise, early to bed after physically tiring day, the minute I'm not forced to get up early I get back to what my body clock was set to.
You can try and accommodate your circadian rhythm by taking a nap at lunch and afternoon/ early evening and plan activities that need concentration to when you feel most awake. That means splitting your sleep hours into smaller chunks, which might feel weird, until you think all the cultures where siesta is part of culture, and everyone works and eats later in the evening.

This should eliviate the anxiety and hence, reduce the hypersomnia. If there doesn't seem to be another underlying cause - a change in one's diet and a consistent sleep schedule should help. Processed carbs can increase fatigue and make an individual sleepy, while sleeping at odd times, without a sleep schedule may also effect one's energy level. @@nikkij4873 unfortunately, I can't say I have tried Adderall. The great thing about Modafinil/armodafinil is that you can increase the dosage by a fairly large margin if you work with your doctor. For instance, when I was first diagnosed I was in the middle of my schooling and absolutely required a high dose to keep up with exams. So I took 300 mg armodafinil every morning. That amount is larger than the typical dosage given to patients, but it was the right amount for me at the time. Due to cost concerns, I am now at 200 mg Modafinil (as that's the max that I can get subsidised). While it doesn't work as effectively, even the smaller boost helps me get going in the day. I would recommend trying it, but best talk to your doctor about it.

So scary and disorienting. I would cry afraid to fall asleep and lose time😢. People didn't understand and referred to me as "sleeping beauty." All my body wanted to do was sleep and I lost a job I loved. I was blessed with a great doctor, but told that I would never be cured after being treated with lifestyle mods (change in job and work schedules etc.), several IV iron treatments and daily oral caffeine tablets equaling up to 10 cups coffee daily (modafinil was contraindicated for me). But God is good! Not one episode since March 2018! Normal sleep! Now IV iron a couple times a year if needed coffee only a few times a week. There is hope in management/healing and in Christ. 🙂

Yup and I was diagnosed with "Long Phase Idiopathic Hypersomnia" All my neurologist had to offer me was, "I'm really sorry," because there is literally nothing he could do to help me. Stimulants can help, but it's only for an hour or two a day and it can be real hit and miss. I have complex form of ADHD on top of it and this makes medicating my condition even more difficult. I take a 20 mg of extended release Adderall in the morning, 30 mg of quick release in the afternoon and another 30 mg in the early evening. Most days I still fall asleep even with all that stimulant in my system.
It's extremely disabling and just to make a small correction, there are sleep episodes/attacks that can happen out of nowhere with Idiopathic Hypersomnia where you CANNOT stay awake. The difference between it and narcolepsy is that when a narcoleptic gets a sleep attack...they can nap and wake feeling refreshed...those with I.H. will never wake feeling refreshed.

So I don't know if the losing excessive weight thing is a symptom of T2 like it is for T1. The symptoms aren't as bad with type 2 because your pancreas are still producing some insulin. With type 1, the insulin production just stops, and the symptoms get pretty severe. Unless it's type 1.5... That's a weird one. It's like type 1, but progressively gets worse, instead of just hitting you all at once like type 1. If you're brave, just taste your pee. If it's sweet, you're diabetic, congratulations. I really need to start telling people to do that to check, instead of all the symptoms, because it's hard to tell from those few symptoms. Made university hell in the lectures they didn't want us to take notes of - I normally handwrote them which kept me awake enough so I'd just conk right out

It obviously might not be your diagnosis, but if this has been going on a long time it might be worth doing a little research to see if the symptoms sound familiar, and talking to a doctor if you're able to see one. @@Fluffy-Fluffy if that's the case then I'm narcoleptic. Glad I don't have cataplexy, that would be awful. All I know is what my sleep doctor told me years ago. • @Fluffy-Fluffy
      @Fluffy-Fluffy ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@kyrebanorg9897 you can look it up if you want to be sure. Like search for narcolepsy without cataplexy will surely help you to find articles about it. Good luck! One thing worse for me than my own extreme sleepattacks would be the truly uncontrollable ones where you doze off suddenly without much or any warning. Also, what can help for narcolepsy with the exhaustion is try to get a sleep of about 20 minutes midday. It's said it helps people with narcolepsy. Have you tried that?
Btw, a general distinction can be made about naps for narcolepsy and hypersomnia: 20min naps are generally not helping people with hypersomnia. For me personally a nap of 1 to max 2h are needed to get 'us' through the entire rest of the day. No longer because what sone have described does go for us too: we can be sleepy all day and fight it off, but then when we do sleep ir not we suddenly lay awake at night and that struggle just suddenly changed to ",ok now may I fall asleep please?"
It's so annoying to fight off sleep desperately sometimes during the day and then lay awake when you can finally go to bed 🤬. Like ... why! It is why I use the daytime to actually sleep because I know that with or without it, I have trouble falling asleep anyway and I rather not fight for hours and then instantly not sleep at night then sleep for a few hours and not sleep at night for at least a few hours. At least I got a few hours of much begged for sleep and feel way more rested when waking up.
And this is unpredictability, together with my own form of sleepattacks is why I am on full longterm disability. (And some other things, but this certainly makes it impossible to find a nornal job. Unless I get to work from home and can divide my own hours. But those are a needle in a hay stack, on top of 7y out of the workforce. Now, data entry could be one of the few jobs I could do, done before and would not be too bad to have been out of working for so long but it's the reason why. Because of living abroad is different than being ill.
I do feel people underestimate hypersomnia vs narcolepsy sometimes or just on its own. It's veey treatable: no not always.
You can control your sleepiness and stay awake: no, I have my own sleepattacks that seriously forces me to sleep immediately.
You don't fall: that's true. But if I don't sleep during a sleepattack people mistake my symptoms for a stroke and I get taken to hospital and then closed ward for thinking I am psychotic since I could only talk gibberish to in my case policeofficer after I apparently just stumbled and swerved in the middle of the street (low speed area gladly) in front of their car.
Just retain structure and lesrn to sleep max 8h: I tried that for 9 months in a facility but it gradually made my exhaustion, sleeping and hallucinations worse.
I just hope people stop thinking it isn't that bad. Maybe on average not. But there are people who cannot function normally despite medications due to it.

Stay away from "at call" work and get a set 40 or so hours of work a week and make sure it never changes
Exercise can help with sleeping and rest afterwards.

They're finding it can be linked to different mental illnesses as well! Or that certain mental disorders can make it worse.
Mine started at 18, I'd fall asleep at my desk. I'd call them "episodes" bc it felt like I could not keep my eyes open no matter what I did. Excessive coffee, lots of water, exercising, going to bed early, nothing helped. When asleep, I could hear everything happening around me, and I felt trapped in my head. These episodes lasted 10-15 minutes usually.
They progressed as I got older, the worst being right after I got covid in 2020. I'd fall asleep while driving (somehow never got in a wreck omfg), while standing up, whole typing at work, drawing at home, in the middle of phone calls. It was ridiculous. I got tested for narcolepsy, but nothing. Finally, after I found a new primary care doctor, we got a treatment plan for me at 26. Hypersomulance, with harsher episodes triggered by PTSD and Depression. I have been on 35.7mg of Phentermine since April 2023, and it is a life saver. Turns out all I needed was baby meth to feel the normal amount of awake as everyone else 😂
