- Mario Kart Retro Rewind was created by ZPL. It eventually will feature every track from all Mario Kart games and currently there's over 150 tracks.
The newest update raised the VR cap from 9999 to 30,000. The servers are now on WiiLink so no NAND is required to play online.
The best option is to get Dolphin emulator and WheelWizard to install Retro Rewind.
WheelWizard application installs Retro Rewind, boots directly, auto updates and will display all open worldwide rooms (miis, names, VR, friend codes).

bought myself a wii last week for their pick-up-and-play nature, the good game library and unique control scheme, considered getting a switch, but wiis so ridiculously cheap now that i'd rather just wait for the next nintendo console so switches to go down in price, just waiting for my copy of mario kart wii to come in the mail now
...it's kinda weird to think that the first console i actually buy on my own with my own money is a wii and not some recent, big release or something, not that i'm really interested in the 9th gen as they are now though

I downloaded the mods while watching the stream and played later in the day! There were still 4 lobbies hours after the stream ended! I have to figure out how to make a mii and get better at the game, but it is a lot of fun. Thank you for introducing me to it!
If you don't mind me asking, how were you able to get online with the wheel wizard? I installed the mod, but for some reason, I can't play online with it.
@@ChillAndChilli Not entirely sure, frankly i was surprised i got it working myself lol. I believe Troy mentioned ZPL has a discord dedicated to the mod, I'd maybe look there for answers :3
I just installed Retro Rewind and I have to say it is really good. Hopefully I can play against you next time Troy.

Great stream! I’m glad to say that I found my old Wii and watched a cleaning tutorial and got it working again so I’ll be ready to race next stream.

Hey Troy, would it be ok to stream at different times to suit Europeans? LA is 8 hrs behind Ireland 🇮🇪 (where I’m from) listen I don’t want to beg or anything but it would make my day being able to catch a stream:)
Streaming at noon for me is already pretty early

I'm confused, how is wiilink any different? To play wimmfi on dolphin you need to import your nand anyway right? So what's the difference?

Wiimmfi = nand required
Retro rewind wiilink = no nand

@@lachie8784no real Wii required whatsoever to play on retro rewind servers; NAND required for any other server. Extremely straightforward to get started on pc with retro rewind.
Retro rewind doesnt need a Wii.
You can play only with dolphin.

Oh yeah it is trust me
running cfw on nintendos switch servers will ban your motherboard so only way to unban your switch is to replace the mobo. Even accidentally pressing update game on cfw with a wifi connection will get you banned.
