      @@WhatMatters5 they are practicing kung fu, not trying to show off how good they can fight, so it may not look pleasing to your eye... Practicing is about discipline, balance, inner calm, and many other qualities being perfected. Whether they can fight a boxer or not does not matter, kung fu is not about winning fights. I respect the sifu in this video, I love the qualities he is spreading. humble and calm. sending peace to all

    This guy knows his shit I tell u that much, I practice hung kwoon and I'm Chinese. Most "kung fu" schools u don't even need to do stances. Like he said u pay your money do some drills and u get yourself a belt. They don't understand kung fu takes a lot of determination, will power and discipline. And that's where the stances come in. It's not easy sitting in stance for an hour or more but every human being with legs can do it, but not many want to push themselves to do it.

    He's right when it comes to training. Train till the day you die. I took on this mindset 💯 when I met a 89 yr old kung master who extremely skilled at tang lang chuen aka mantis fist boxing. 👊 Today I see too many younger people not committed to thier martial art, complaining about even basic training.

    Very nice to see a master that is sticking to the traditions and this is a rare sight, respect to you. And I already know there are people thinking this doesn't work on the street, if you think that then you have little knowledge or are biased towards your style of sport or martial art. Kung fu as a whole has been designed for war and on the street, it is tried and tested and trust me it works better than any sport such as MMA or Muay thai or Kickboxing etc

    Hung Gar Kuen can compliment your modern taekwondo style , what is most important is for you to know that Hung Gar Arm Movements can be effective and not all Hung Gar forms are low stances. Those are meant to strengthen your legs , waist and hip for a more stable and forceful kick or punch.
    Take time to see how it benefits ( in actual fact influenced ) your modern taekwondo style . It works and is your foundation already.

    Shuai Jiao and San Shou are Kung Fu styles that have been successful in the UFC. San Shou especially has been well demonstrated by Cung Le, the former champion of Strike Force. Shuai Jiao practitioners practice throwing methods not unlike that of Judo and are very effective. check out these Kung Fu styles on TH-cam! As for quan fa, this is a no holds barred self defense art where anything goes and competition sport does not compare.

    The low stances or forms are just meant for building stronger leg power to stabilize the fighter. The lower stances are usually meant to show stability , strength and power when a real kick is done. Not a light tap kick but a forceful kick.
    No real Hung Gar fighter would be fighting in that low stances. All will fight upright with a series set of movements known as chain punching or kicking.
    A block and an attack simultaneously.

    I agree that you have to go with the times; however, these traditional arts were used in actual hand to hand combat in their own time. The only problem is that people don't train the way they used to. People are treating the traditional arts like a bowling league. Today, people are into sports like MMA rather than actual combat. MMA is not for self defense as there are no rules in the street. Also, multiple opponents and weapons are likely. Classical arts must evolve to remain effective.

    @yerovi86 The reason why styles like kung fu are not that useful in the UFC is because kung fu styles are extremely hard to master. You can't have an average joe learn it good enough to be very effective in a combative sport against grapplers. It could help you with street defense, but a real kung fu master who has truly mastered the art is one out of many. Its not easy. especially with most of the styles being corrupted.

I'm sure that he charges a fee for his classes, no because he "wants" the money, but because it's necessary to keep the school open. Money rules this world and there is no way around that, no matter how much of a fantasy land belief you adopt.

You definitely have to do your research. I've been training kempo for over 20yrs and I have a friend who trains TKD and both schools have very realistic training based on realistic attacks and realistic responses. This is why our classes are so small. People today either want the power ranger stuff or the UFC stuff.

    Oh and @dynastyflygon, I know what you mean about TKD schools but don't judge the entire style just from the Mcdojo's you see here. TKD can be as effective as any other style if you learn and train it properly. If you watch any footage or speak to someone who trained during the "golden era" of martial arts in America, there were some very good TKD teachers back in the day. Believe it or not even a lot of MMA and BJJ schools are Mcdojo now.

    (2)The other school is just doing business and I get that. But at what cost to the student? We charge 45 dollars a month at my school. The other charges 130 per month. Now do you see how important it is to these student to have a black belt? Now don't get me wrong, we have 41 students that are loyal and train with us faithfully. 9 are Black belts. The smaller kids love our training. It is so fun to see an eight year old pull off a perfect arm bar or choke or to see them create in real time. Nice

    I agreed with Sifu Mike Marshall , in martial arts , what our mind can conceive our body can achieve. This is common sense. If you are willing enough to learn , open your mind and heart , search and you shall receive. With training , it develops strength of body mind character.
    Unless you are into competitions for trophies cash and fame , martial arts is not for you. Judo is effective but look at what happened? It became a sport. No doubt Judo is highly effective though. You get what i mean.

His reasoning was that the other kids that were blue had moved up so he should too. Then they expect to get their Black belt over night like Fed Ex so that they can go around a brag that they are "experts" in martial arts. Lol. Sad but true. When a students first question to you is, "when will I get my black belt", there is a serious problem. When you won't give it to them quickly, they just go to the school that will. (cont)

    What you are seeing in this video are exercises aka forms. When they are done over and over again it becomes muscle memory. Take Tai Chi for example it appears to be slow and uneffective, but whe it is used at full speed it can actually fuck some body up. No matter what fighting style some one knows or all they know is how to street fight the first thing to master is that fight or flight moment, to stay focused, calm and strike fast and hard

  • @lookahere
    @lookahere 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MrPomeroyWatson Unfortunately, that's the business side of martial arts today. The school where I train has lost so many students because we don't "give" out belts.You have to earn them like the old days. It may take 2yrs just to move from white belt depending on the students determination.On the other hand, the most successful school here has 130+ black belt students most of which have less than 3yrs of training. There are a lot of people that just want to be a black belt for bragging rights.

  • @MrPomeroyWatson
    @MrPomeroyWatson 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @dynastyflygon and @yerovi86, That's the problem with just about all traditional styles taught in America. Martial arts schools have become so watered down that it's very difficult to find real useful training anymore. Many schools have become daycare centers catering to children classes because that's what brings in the money. Others are so afraid of being shut down if a student gets hurt and decides to sue, they won't teach the applications even if the instructor knows them himself.

    @ravisdb the chances of fighting a skilled MMA fighter in the street is 1 in 10,000. Even then, it's better to run because 70% of us would lose regardless of our training in Muay Tha

    @Blueslicks321 I've worked out at a mma gym (having learned I do Quan fa... some try to treat me like a punk) I just snap into real Quan fa and they back down. I'll give you an example: I was Sparring a Muai thai boxer, he blast me in the thigh as hard as he could then laugh's and say's "I bet you never been kicked like that in Kung fu..." I then proceeded to counter kick him in the groin with a Tan Tui every time he attempted a round kick. continued

    @yerovi86 I disagree The reason I think is... Quan fa (Kung Fu) sorry to say was born in much more dangerous time. Quan fa is not geared for a sport venue...if you train your skills with the same intensity as a mma competitor you will have the same prowess. (and IMO be much more dangerious) I practice Piguaquan and just about every application is a show stopper. (as seen here... most of these application being demonstrated are "show stoppers" ) continued...

    Do these techniques and other fancy attractive Kung Fu styles work in Defense and Offense? Because I'm not sure if it will help in a street fight or robbery. Not saying that I would step up to a Sifu I know better than that. Lol

      +Khan Dee Xiong , this kung fu is very good.. then again it depends on the person not the art.. most of the time you do what you can.. if they want your money , give it to them .. if you are in danger,fight for your life.. all arts are deadly , it's how you use it

      You don't really know what you are talking about then. Hung Gar is a very serious, very lethal fighting style....I know. I won't be getting into any TH-cam discussion with you. Just find a master or good student and challenge them to a fight....they will show you it is NOT just about exercise. As I say, you don't have any idea what you are talking about.

    @GungFuMan777 Come on, grow up. If you don't have money, you have nothing in this world. It's true that money isn't everything, but it's a large thing. If you don't have money you can't afford a house, cannot support a family...etc. If you're a good fighter, why not use it to be able to make yours and your family's life better? You smug guys that come on here and talk trash about UFC fighters and professional fighters in general don't do it because you dont need the money and oh, you can't.

    im pretty sure you guys are aware of this but the kung fu you see in movies and in real life are completely different. it is so choreographed that its a shame. like SteveSabbai said "Martial Artists can not defeat Street Fighters or Grapplers...you ever watch UFC?" like all other fighting style martial arts also focus on using a single blow technique. i have never seen a real martial arts fight that had perfect and proper form. maybe in movies and anime, but not real life. no offense to the sifu

  • @IBurton86
    @IBurton86 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @SteveSabbai Being a martial artist involves being COMPLETE in fighting skill. For example, someone who studies say Kung Fu, Boxing, Judo, & Jujitsu (like me) would DESTROY any savage street fighter.

    (2) the other school I was referring to and now after less than a year he is just two belts away from black! What a joke. Every time I see one of the commercials for that school on tv and all of those so called black belts are lined up behind the instructor, I can't help but feel sorry for the people being duped by that fast paced black belt program. It not only hurts them by not truly preparing them for self defense but it hurts martial arts in general because it stands on a lie.

  • @SteveSabbai
