I went from rarely using my 7+ yr old iPad mini to CONSTANTLY using my new one. So glad I snagged it. What piece of tech were you reluctant to buy but did it anyway and ended up NOT regretting it?
I a few older vids that cover my filming and lighting setups for a few different styles of video, but nothing that goes too in-depth on all the smaller pieces of hardware and how they’re connected. I’ll add that to my list of vids to consider making!
Completely agree. I also bought a Mini on a bit of an impulse. It replaced a three year and a half year old iPad Pro. I love it too. It is great for content. And ideal for lecturing. I can carry it easily as I write up on the board. And I completely agree about Pages. I often write a first draft of a script on the Mini. It really is an ideal all rounder, especially if you have a desktop or MacBook for the heavy work.
Yessssss. Pretty much anything I’m doing in my workflow that makes me think, “This is really making my life easier,” I’ve got on my list of things to share. So many vids that there’s quite a backlog. If I could hire my old assistant editor tomorrow I would! At some point I’ll say, “I can’t afford not to!” Glad this vid was helpful. 🤘🏻
Not sure why this vid doesn't have more views!! I've come back especially to comment as this was REALLY useful to me. (liked the shots too) I saw your first video when you were thinking of getting one. Recently watched this video and am now practising using sidecar with mine and can't wait to try and set up the teleprompter for my wife's Zoom Meetup events. I really think being able to look at the person in the eye is the final piece in the puzzle to not just looking good on camera, but looking engaged too. It's going to be a game-changer 👍 Thanks
You're very kind, Joseph! I think part of the reason is that I don't do a lot of iPad / iPhone content on my channel so my subscribers aren't as interested in videos like this...because of that I never get a real lift upon launch so the Algorithm kinda leaves it for dead. But that's okay. For some of my videos like this they find 2nd life after coming up in TH-cam search repeatedly and they can sometimes do well from there. We shall see! Glad your iPad is going to help you in some key areas of your life/work!
thats great....using your teleprompter for eye contact with video conference interviews.. i gave up my teleprompter because it only worked on a cu shot... can you suggest a good teleprompter that can shoot wide with a camera?
I have the One Take Only PadPrompter. It's pricey at around $400 (with the 15mm rod attachments), but it can handle most of my widest angles when I'm using it.
Yes! Going to do a breakdown of my livestream setup in the near future. I have an iPhone vlog version up on my Patreon but want to do a more polished version for the channel. It's on my to-do list!
I want to chop that broccoli! So if you wanted to bring a title over from the iPad to your Macbook, you'd just drag your mouse to the left? Like an extended display? Great video by the way, Matthew.
As long as you've added the iPad as an extended display through Display Preferences. But now that Universal Control has been released, I'll be curious to see if Sidecar is any different. I don't think it will be, but I'm curious!
Thanks for the content bro. Appreciated. Just got an iPad for similar reasons. I’ve been an fcpx user for years and Ive searched absolutely everywhere….. how do you use so many displays with fcpx?! Do you have a video for it??
I need to do an updated video, but here's an older one that's a tour of my desk setup and how I use 4 displays while editing (3 for FCP). Let me know if this helps! th-cam.com/video/K7ohWyLL6mo/w-d-xo.html
I do! I think the iMac Pro was a bit of a paradox - it had the guts of a pro computer but the connectivity of a consumer Mac. I would have never bought one myself because it doesn't have the ports that are needed to connect to numerous pro peripherals.

Keep Matting that OBrienly
Haha - will do!
Hi. DO you have a video about your Recording setup? ALl the teleprompter, hardware, connections, monitors etc ?

Sounds like you’ve got a great workflow, James! 👊💥
Dude, you’re in my head. I thought about reaching out to you and asking for a video on this exact topic. This is great!

Yes!!! It’s the little things that add up. Thanks for outlining everything! Just ordered one 😂.
Dang! That's awesome!

Awesome 👏🏾. I’m gonna see how to use my iPad mini more too
Awesome! Let me know if there are any new ones you try after watching this vid!
Great content! Well done.
Thanks, Preston!
Will you do a TH-cam studio breakdown/tour? (Key light, teleprompter, how you make scripts, etc.)

Matthew are you thinking of getting the new Mac Studio?
Ohhhh, I ordered it the second it was available for sale. Should be here Friday. 🤘🏻🙌🏻
@@matthewTobrien Awesome!!!!! 😃
I’d love side car in fcpx with my iPhone, if only.
Yeah, that could be interesting...

@@matthewTobrien thanks man! Keep up the good content.
Will do!
And now we have Universal Control, any new ideas for this new feature for the iPad mini?
Gonna be exploring that in the coming weeks!
@@matthewTobrien Sounds good!
Matt! Can you use the iPad mini 6 as a viewer in FCP?
Oh you sure can. Check out the vids I linked in the description to learn how...
@@matthewTobrien Thanks! You’re the Best in the west!
When I grow up I want to be a TH-camr like you.
You should! It's fun!
“Chopping that broccoli” I really don’t like vegetables ;-)
Haha - who does? I eat them because I have to. Okay, sometimes I like them.
@@matthewTobrien One last question Matthew? Do you think that the max studio is replacing the iMac Pro?🤔
I do! I think the iMac Pro was a bit of a paradox - it had the guts of a pro computer but the connectivity of a consumer Mac. I would have never bought one myself because it doesn't have the ports that are needed to connect to numerous pro peripherals.
@@matthewTobrien I like the simple fact that, as an all in one, it was a little more economical.
How long before they put the m1 in it and it's as powerful as my freaking laptop
Haha - I know... M1 in an iPad Air? Probably coming to the iPad mini eventually...
@@matthewTobrien yep, wild times were living in!
Only way I’ll buy an iPad is if they have final cut on it…
Copy that, Ryder! 🧲🎞
