    Your elder has to be tragically poor to take advantage of this. I'm taking care of 2 80+, luckily with my sister. It's a tremendous amount of work. The nursing home was neglectful and there is no way anyone should be in there. This is a problem for most. Too bad there aren't programs to help most of America.

    Honestly there comes to a point where its just taking advantage of people. I'm all about helping people who can't help themselves, but nobody ever stops to think that people are giving up their lives doing this, to the point where they have to unfairly limit themselves for it. Nobody should ever be forced into doing something for somebody else's needs, it should be about equality.

      I spent 3 years as a live in caretaker for a family, 24/7 but with a stand in during daytime. After that one quit, I was the only one 24/7 low pay, but built up frustration of not having my life to live. So I gave notice of leaving. The senior was physically limited, but the dementia made it far more difficult. My life was only about the senior 24/7. I did get a break to go on a 10 day trip. I would take it whether I was fired or not because of pent up emotional distress.

    This video leaves out the fact that it is up to each STATE whether they allow family members to get paid via this program. Some states, like NC do NOT allow family members to be paid via this program, while states like Colorado DO. It's kind of like it being up to each state whether or not to allow those making less than 12,000 per year to have their health insurance covered by Medicaid to fill the gap in the Affrdable Health Care Program. The NC Republicans, wanting to be SPITEFUL, refused this program, even though the Federal Government would be covering the costs. They also refuse to allow family members to get paid via the Medicaid program. Most states that allow family caregivers to get paid via the Medicare program also expanded the Medicaid program to cover the poorest in their state, those making less than $12,000 per year. For some, this may be a case of voting with your feet....meaning, MOVE to a state friendlier to the poor and friendlier to health care rights. States that put their citizens ABOVE petty politics.

    This is how it should always be with family and friends taking care of their own elderly loved ones instead of families depending on CNAs all the time because sometimes we CNAs can't be there for them like family members can

    I was a live in caretaker for 3 years. Not through any agency. A call to me from a family ( not mine) to move in and do the task. Trade off situation- live there free, no rent, no charge for utilities. No money. Another was hired to be there during the day, arrive in morning, leave in afternoon. I was there 24/7. When the hired attendee quit after 2 years, then I was paid to do all the duties at half what a professional would get. However, I had experience being a caretaker for my parents. Only $400/week for the 24/7 job.

      I live near Fayetteville NC and have done some research into this and found that NC is one of the states that does NOT allow family members to be paid caregivers under this program. Whereas a state like Colorado does. So unfortunately, the short answer for you is the same as it was for me.....MOVE to a friendlier state that allows family members to get paid. So far, I have not made a move, but still weighing my different options, including care giving facilities in Mexico and abroad. Mexico is looking like it is the most practical or at least the easiest route. In Mexico, my mother's Social Security payments would pay the full amount of the care giving facilities costs. Here in the US, it would only pay a fraction of the cost.

    This is adding HUGE burden on other people NOT in the health care industry, that would have to add additional stress and burden and also additional financial burden, even though they would receive s "stripend" every month. Look at the man. He's tired out! When will his wife also be exhausted from this? What about dementia patients that yell, are emotionally abusive, wander, have bladder problems, need nursing assistance etc. This the "future" of senior care? Wow. Time to move to another country!

    • @michellewinkler3985
      @michellewinkler3985 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hope these people receive a "respite". They should ask their agency that oversees the caregiving for some time to recoup.
