He totally dodged the time travel question, he must know something we don't...
Conspiracy theory we must detain him...
I actually kind of agree lol
We must work together to expose him
+Harambe probably not but let's say to me travel is true and Neil has the secret. It would be a horrible idea to tell the public. knowing humans we'll end up completely fucking everything up so I believe if I'm some way there is a way to do so, we should not expose Neil

Time travel would be possible if our perception of time is not linear; in that case we would be in a place where time does not exists stuck in an infinite loop.
neil answered that question elsewhere. if possible it would only work back to the date you completed your timemachine. also its more likely to jump to other realities where you where part of the past as a time travaller imho.
We are all traveling thru time right now, so yes it's possible.
Travelling forward in time relative to Earth is possible. Gravity and Time are linked so if you went somewhere with more gravity than Earth time would move slower for you than on Earth.
Stephen Hawking is the man for that. Read a brief history of time.

Stealthily ignored the time travel question.... interesting....
well im pretty sure some this year they found dont that time travel is impossible due to how time work or no way a traveler can go back in time to before the time machine was built
idk the full details you should just google it
Time travel is possible. It happens all the time (no pun intended). It's just one way though.
yeah, the real question is if going back in time is possible. traveling to the future is not that big of a deal, but you'll have to stay there and it's more like smart waiting without dying lol
but going back in time is very hard to even imagine in a way that makes sense and there isn't even anything close to being helpful in doing it...
Time travel is very much possible.
You can displace time while travelling through space and travel to the relative future. It won't be like Back to the Future, but it's still time travel. Time travel to the past, however, is impossible.
Yep. A flight across the Atlantic will time-travel you fractions of a second. The closer you get to light speed, the slower your relative time. Weird.
He didn't answer the time travel question!!!! He's hiding something!!
He probably said something he shouldn't have, traveled back in time and turned the cameras off for that bit.
^ Or not answer that the second time?
Sada Nah, NDG's too smart for that, her knew Andy Samberg would get suspicious, so he subtly hacked the cameras to switch off during that and the producer broadcast what they could.
tommy cane115 i agree with u but he is necessary to enlighten people with the finding and wonders of science,he has a interesting way to explain things which gets to even those people who are un-interested in science which is really very important, though people say that he has'nt made any real contribution to science apart from the pluto bit(i have'nt really researched on this topic so forgive me if i am wrong)...but i see whatever he's doing as essential and that is inspiring the people especially the newer generation and once that is done they will learn and do much more than theoritical science...don't u agree???
I don't think anybody credible in the scientific community thinks that time and space is made up of atoms- almost all *matter* is made up of atoms, but time and space are just dimensions matter can exist and travel in.

I love Andy Samberg's face during the whole time NGT was answering his question. You can tell how simply interested and excited he was to hear all of that
Before you say, "hey wait, what about time travel, he dodged the question!!" I've actually seen him in a few videos where he has to go through a list of stuff, and he almost always forgets one. I think he's just an absent minded professor type.
It is possible to go forward in time, but if multiverae theory is true then even if going back was possible you would just create a alternate timeline.
Time travel is a touchy subject since time is relative. Extreme gravity like from a black hole can distort time and perception. That said, I imagine time travel is not possible for humans as we're limited to 3 dimensions, but a being from a higher dimension could travel across time with ease. Time is often regarded in fiction as the 4th dimension because we don't have any other concepts in mind. The concept of time travel becomes incomprehensible when you start looking at all the factors that may be affected if you travel across time. If time lines exist, where do they lie? In the 4th dimension? Are we a bunch of stills from a video, traveling forward in time? Is there a still for every possibility, one where I did not type this comment? Will this reply be posted under the comment of the original commenter, or will it be under his alternate version, because I mistyped a word and erased it to type it again? Is this what infinite timelines means? How can we humans even begin to comprehend infinity? Is there an entire timeline that was created at the dawn of time, one that I'm not in because I typed 23 instead of 22? Are our fates predetermined if we move across the timeline because of our actions, yet arrive at a result that has always existed? Are our lives just elaborate 'choose your own adventure' books?
No I think after a few minutes of explaining a complicated concept you forget somethings you were told before , not absent minded, just focused
He's an abstract thinker. Ironically formulae and lists are not his thing. Taking ideas and synthesizing new ideas from them is his modus operandi.
@@wadellz making mars habitable, as I'm sure you meant, and time travel is two fundamental different things that has nothing in common at all. So comparing the two has no meaning. We don't have the technology or knowledge for either yet anyway

So, just planning a history book...
And not to mention completely wrong
Is a boot egocentric when it squashes an ant?
He didn't answer the second question.
i think they ran out of time
Bear So, why did they skip it in the first place?
maybe if we could time travel, we would see his answer on time travel.
Time travel confirmed! He lied by omission!
Time travel is theoretically possible but we can't and won't be able to for a long long time.
To quickly answer the 3rd question: Time travel is theoretically possible -- we know there are entities like black holes that distort space-time, we just don't have the means to harness that phenomenon without dying... yet. 👀 (probably never, lol)
It has to be two black holes orbiting each other if I understand it correctly. If you take a very specific path between two black holes orbiting each other you'll travel back in time.
But most likely if there are 2 black holes at certain distance they will consume each other
@@scarlace Lol "if I understand it correctly"? You copied it from the same man dude. Neil said this in another video where a kid asks him about two blackholes colliding
@@aryanaji5596 I didn't copy it I learned it the first time there. Just as he learned it from someone else. So what's your problem?
He never said if time travel was possible or not....means someone's working on it.
Yes. Look it up; there's a few people on it
If it is you can only go forward.
if time travel into past would be possible in the future, we would know it.
But would we really know? Think if time travel was real and we could go back why would they go back to the 2000s? If time travel is real it probably wasn't discovered for probably millions of years and they would think of going back to this far, but your probably right
SO lack of confirmation IS confirmation
I love Neil deGrasse Tyson and how passionate he is about what he does!
He wasn't dodging the time travel question. He's explained elsewhere that the super-warped fabric of spacetime between two colliding black holes would give rise to time anomalies such as traveling a figure of eight around the merging event horizons and arriving at the beginning, at a time before you started your journey.
I just now saw that video myself
Yah... Clayton

+SpaceWaifuu actually no, this is probably the simplest answer you will ever hear to that question which is what I think is most impressive. he doesn't try to sound smart. he's more interested in getting people to understand.
+Ritwik Jain Sahu as a chemist I have to say that the ability to make advanced science seem as simple as he did is an extremely impressive skill.
Ritwik Jain Sahu That´s what I meant, he uses nice words, it was just an expression. Sorry if it wasn´t that clear. I always admired his way to express himself in the simplest way but explaining so well. What I meant is that he has the capacity through those words to speak about so many things some people deny and are actual facts of science, such as life or organic living in other planets.
Sam Kellman same
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE TIME TRAVEL??? WE NEED ANSWERS NEIL GODDAMN IT
I guess he is not that smart to answer that
Watch his show star talk, he's talked about all of this, except maybe the robot question.
The latest theory says that it is possible, but it would require an immense amount of energy to distort the space-time continuum to cause travel back in time. They think something like the energy of a black hole, which as of right now it would be unimaginable to be able to control it, but who knows what technology will look like in the future. They might eventually be able to make it happen.
Same. Now I'm just suspicious. NDT confirmed time traveller.

that suggests vibrators are robots, but they're just machines. Are all robots machines? Yes. Are all machines robots? No. *mind blown*
Vibrators are just a robot detachable dick. Lets be honest.
Vibrators numb your nerve endings, making normal sexual stimulation not as interesting. Not only are they robot dicks, but they make regular human sex not as appealing. I vote that they should be considered cheating.

The time travel question is something NDT could answer but honestly that conversation and explanation would take hours if not days. He's the short answer: Is it possible? Yes. But not in the way we imagine it. If you need more details google it and be prepared to read/watch hours and hours of theoretical physics/cosmology/math science.
I thought we can experience time at different speeds though motion, but can never actually go back in time.
I read this commend years ago, did my study, Watched rick and morty and have now a solid grasp on Quantum physics and general relativity.
After my years of Research i found out that time travel is indeed possible and neil is hiding that fact from us!
Time travel is not a hard concept to understand. Its completely possible. Simply the faster you move through space, the slower you age. You can also achieve this by catapulting around a black hole near the event horizon, where theoretically you can age 100,000x slower than the people being affected by earths gravity.
@Scott Covert short answer time travel forward yes back no.
Well now that they have technically reversed time with a quantum computer we have our answer

What's the difference with a robot and an other sex toys like a vibrator? Is it AI? So if you made a talking vibrator that would be cheating?
If it's a real AI that someone put into a mobile robotic shell that was designed just to fuck and be fucked, all the while being inhabited by a sentient, feeling being put on a leash and restricted to follow the wishes of the one who is about to fuck it.... that's rape cheating. Or something like that. I guess we'd have to define what a sex robot is, besides a human looking automaton. Without AI, is just a very complex vibrator/fleshlight.

What about time travel?! As a former companion I am ashamed of you james...
Thing is to time travel, you would need to move significant distances through space also. At each point in time the earth itself is in a completely different point in space. So we spin at 460 metres per second, orbit the sun at nearly 30 km a second, the sun moves around the centre of the galaxy at 220 km a second which in turn rockets through space along with neighbouring galaxies at around 1000 km a second. So to move back ten years (approximately 315,360,000 seconds) you would also have to cover a distance of around 315,360,000,000 km to come within somewhere near the length of a galaxy in distance to Earth at that point in time. Also to cause ripples in the fabric of space-time, currently the only way we have proven this can happen is by a cataclysmic event like the collision of two large stars. Therefore, for now, it's pretty unlikely :)
However relativity shows, if you orbited close to a body of large gravitational force, eg. a black hole, and someone was orbiting further away, they would observe time differently to you. You'd experience time much more slowly, therefore the oter person would age quicker. So that is sort of like time travel, just you don't really get it on Earth. Satelites orbiting Earth only experience a difference of about on second every 60 years or something.
ben00000100 thank you :)
I prefer Neil to answer that.
