I still think the Prince would be a good match for Daphne; their goals for the future lined up so perfectly! I know Basset pushes her out of her comfort zone, and her out of his while they still connect on the same level, but realistically Basset just isn't connected with his own emotions. The Prince is perfectly connected, listened to women (which was a HUGE deal) and asks her opinion, rich and sweet. And not bad on the eyes -- they would be great.
But of course, I still love Basset.

Actually, the gift of the necklace is historically inaccurate. Such a gift would have been considered highly inappropriate and would have raised suspicion that she was secretly his mistress. There were strict, though unwritten, rules that governed courtship and giving someone items of jewellery or clothing was unacceptable.
Yeah but its not a show thats supposed to be historically accurate, its historical fantasy. Daphne getting a beautiful diamond necklace from a prince isn't supposed to be true to the times, its supposed to play into the romance novel tropes the series is founded on.
And, it didn't happen in the books. The show does a good interpretation of the books, but it is written for a TV audience who might not be clued in to the nuances of Regency high society.
Honestly thought considering how overtly inappropriate for that era EVERYTHING they do in this show is, no surprise there 😂
Yeah even in romance novels most stick to that rule only wives and mistresses get jewelry.

I’m sure it’s already been said, but guns from that era, especially shorter barrel single-handed guns like pistols, were not very accurate by today’s standards. The bullets were round lead balls and the gun barrel was a smooth metal tube, so upon exiting the barrel the bullet would spin and curve mid air unpredictably due to the Magnus effect. I don’t know if you’re familiar with any ball sports, but this is the same effect that happens when a baseball pitcher throws a curveball, when a soccer player “bends it like Beckham”, when a skilled ping pong player makes the ball loop all over the place. To continue the sports analogy, guns became much more accurate when they made the bullets more cylindrical and made them spin along their length in flight, like how an NFL quarterback throws a spiral.

The Portuguese ancestry is and the idea of her being black is based off one portrait that gives her full lips and a wide nose - not fashionable for the time period so no one knows why it was done, unless that’s what she actually looked like. However, all other portraits and writings do not mention these features so it’s really up for speculation.

You know what the crazy thing is as much as I love the fact that they did address color, there are still people who are upset that they didn't do it sooner 🤦🏽 it's like why can't we just be happy that a Regency Show did; when no other Regency show has ever done it before, and that's diversity! Baby steps people it's okay Hollywood is still learning and we're going to be there to make sure they get it right ✊🏼💯
I kinda wish it hadn't been addressed at all. Just present a diverse world as it should be, that it's perfectly normal, and an ideal to strive for. But I do agree with Miatta Lebile that they need to do better about casting darker skinned women and give them speaking roles. Most are lighter skinned women. [Go see Miatta's reactions to Bridgerton! I loved her videos just as much as J & B's!]
Yeah I guess my problem was I kept comparing it to Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella starring Brandy, which was made in the 90’s, had wayyyy more diversity in the lead roles (at the end of the day bridgerton is still about a white family), and didn’t address color at all.
