I was at that show, it was at my college WCSU Western Connecticut State University. I was part of the Program Activities council to help get this booked. At the time we were so happy to get ECW there but after that spot it got scary fast. The SGA meetings after that were really bad, we had to get all programs approved by committees and no student funds could go towards things like this again, It was a wild time on campus, our PAC advisor pretty much got run out of school.
Part of me wonders if this spot is what led (in part) to WCW doing the infamous "Kanyon is thrown off the Triple Cage" bit that ended Slamboree 2000 two months later. After all, Living Dangerously 2000 is the one time ECW actually outperformed WCW when it came to PPVs, with Uncensored 2000 actually having fewer PPV buys than LD 2000 (&, to be fair, it may or may not have had fewer paid attendees live at the venue, too), so once Vince Russo came back to WCW the following month maybe he thought "Hey, let's do something crazy, like ECW did, & it'll get us a ton of attention!". I mean, Slamboree 2000 also happened almost an exact year after Owen Hart's death (it actually happened on what would have been Owen's 35th birthday), & in the same exact building where Owen died, but I highly doubt that spot was intended to "honor" Owen. Instead, I could easily see it as Russo trying to replicate what ECW (accidentally) did at Living Dangerously, and he simply didn't take into consideration the timing & venue of it all.
So instead of scrapping the dumb spot altogether ECW brass & New Jack said fucck it lets just get somebody else to do it. Grimes should've said hell no more firmly. Then Jack in his "infinite wisdom" decided to force the spot thru, is suprised it goes wrong then holds a grudge for vague reasons to commit felonious assault, simple battery & attempt murrder that was self admittedly premeditated. Grimes was an idiot for taking that rematch too smh. What an endless parade of dumbassery this whole thing was....
Ey! It's not very often there's a video I can say I talked to a wrestler after they retired! My little brother used to go on ride alongs with Angel when he was a cop in my hometown! It was really weird to meet a guy who I'd seen do such violent things in a police uniform 🤣
I struggle to feel bad for New Jack, especially given his antics after this. People dog pile modern talent for being wreckless while this guy basically committed attempted murder in the ring on numerous occasions. Nothing of value was lost in 2021.
Fosbury flop is the technique used for high jumping in athletics. It’s also a move AJ styles used to do, a running diving turnaround moonsault to the outside. Flair flopping is the antics of Flair overselling 😜
I’ve seen all from 1980-Now I’m from NY I’ve been to many Supercards/PPVs I watch all wrestling promotions around the world what a life of wrestling throughout the decades I’ve attended every ECW Supercard/PPV many memories
Maybe he didn’t know how uncomfortable he was going to be until he was up there and looking down? Going up and then not falling or jumping off might seem dumb, but it’s nowhere close to being remotely close to as dumb as pulling a guy, against his will (making it an uncontrolled fall no less), off of that height towards yourself.
New Jack was a shit stain on the wrestling business, couldn't work, didn't want to work and didn't draw a dime. He died broken and penniless. An embarrassment to the wrestling business.
I've always felt so bad for grimes tho, can u imagine innocently f****** up a big spot against new jack lol poor dude got up there and just got scared is what happened 😆
I was at the show in the year 2000 of course I was born in Danbury and I'll never forget for a moment watching that happen about 40 ft away the thud I heard and fell in the ground. I'm still waiting to find the half of glimpse where you see a little blonde hair blue-eyed young me holding a sign that says I got big balls lol
To be real, I honestly don't blame New Jack for what he did to Vic Grimes a year-and-a-half later after that Living Dangerously incident. Then again, maybe the Original Gangsta probably never meant to actually kill him. Of course, at the end of the day, his views and opinions are just a prime example of New Jack just being New Jack.
I remember watching the PPV...the idea of having Humpty Dumpty Grimes do that move was utterly ridiculous. But then again, Jack will tell you he was "high as a mother-f$cker", so there you go. Why the hell didn't someone above say" hey, it ain't happening...figure something else out.". But there was no communication, organization, oversight in ECW.
@TimTE01 new jack maimed dozens, caused major Injuries.. bragged about it... he gets hurt once... and then cried foul.. of course the spot was his fault.
TBH, I feel like a lot of times in shoot interviews, New Jack was just staying in character and not breaking kayfabe (probably something he learned working around the old-school guts in SMW). In terms of XPW scaffold against Grimes, I don't think Jack was trying to "unalive" (use this to make TH-cam happy) Grines, but rather Grimes took a bad leap and almost missed the tables. Probably after the match, Jack checked to see if Grimes was ojay, and after finding out he was, probably decided to go with the other story to build up a futire match. Also, I remember seeing a shoot where Jack tells that story, and at the end if it, him and Grimes are seen hang out and being friends. I don't think I'd want to be friends with so.e that tried to end my life "on purpose".😂 Just my thoughts.
As for the XPW scaffold match, I kinda wonder what they were seriously expecting how that match would turn out. Let's just pretend the match would have gone down without any animosity... One of them would still have been thrown down from that thing.
The craziest part is that Grimes took the whole thing in stride. There is a documentary-style shoot called The Shooting Range by Michael Moody (its on youtube) that was actually filming the night this happened. In Vick's words: "that night, things went wrong, but tonight, things went right".
If only vic took jack out that day, neither had talent on the level of actual professional wrestlers, and jack literally didn't care about his opponents, sucks for his family he passed away, but I will not miss him at all, like it really matters, just my opinion, and it's not a popular one.
Watch the shoot interview with Vic that happened in the locker room at the XPW show. He wasn't hurt, there was no animosity between he and New Jack, and the spot went exactly how they planned it.
Thats wrestler speak for “uh, it went fucky but we’re gonna say it was meant to be that way all along”. There’s no way it went the way they planned it cause Vic missed most of the tables 🤣
Its a receipt. Dont agree to the spot if you dont wanna go. And make sure to check up on a guy even if it was an accident. New Jack gets an unfair amount of hate for this and mass transit. Other wrestlers have wanted to do far worse. Or even have done worse. Owen Hart himself fucked steve austins neck and career up yet no one ever likes to say, hey man you made a mistake. They only talk about his fall. Owen fucked up and didnt call Steve. Steve had every right to be forever angry with him. Its not ballet as we know. They agreed to the spot. So go and do it. Thats your job. Jack gave the people what they wanted
Grimes: Jack I can’t feel my legs
Jack: You won’t need them
Bombs awayyy! - New Jack
Vic Grimes: Im not comfortable with this spot Jack.
New Jack: That doesn't work for me, brother.
"jack-jack! I can't feel my legs!"
"you ain't gonna need em, bombs away..."
best part of new jacks dark side of the ring episode

Where abouts were you when that spot happened? Close by?
Haha thats crazy story thanks for sharing.
Even by ECW standards, this is one of the most insane spots I’ve ever seen. It will never not make me wince whenever I see a clip of it.
New Jack was INSANE. Let's just all agree on that
Man he’s dead and I’m still nervous saying that - he might find out some way
Lack of planning, yes, but the fact one of them was a coked up psychopath may have been an issue too…
"... and tugged the super-heavyweight off" 😱
As a great philosopher once said, "I don't think that's PG!"
Phrasing

Not to mention that folks didn't buy the PPV *because* of the fall. They bought it because of what *led up to* it.

What an endless parade of dumbassery this whole thing was....
Cocaine is a hell of drug.
Comparing Vic Grimes to Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow is insane man
Lol for real tho
I mean I guess he was hyped up at the time but... Yeah. 😂
it's the size and athletic ability more than wrestling ability
@@lilsunny7399is right, they were pretty specific about the reasoning. Accurate comparison.
Pretty sure Devito was the leader of the Da Baldies.

New Jack: Bombs away then he threw Vic
We need a NEW JACK biopic ASAP!!!! 🙅🏿♂️
There is already about 3 out there
@jdixon390 NO, like a motion picture Hollywood type movie.
@gregwhite7852 oh right, in that case, absolutely not lmao no one needs that
@@jdixon390 Now that's not right lol
I grew up mostly in danbury with new jack being a huge influence on my childhood, when i found out about the Danbury fall it changed my life.
I got Danbury fall and the fosbury flop mixed up and got very confused why they were doing a true story about Flair's antics in the ring.
You're still confusing things. A Flair flop and a fosbury flop are two different things.
Fosbury flop is the technique used for high jumping in athletics. It’s also a move AJ styles used to do, a running diving turnaround moonsault to the outside.
Flair flopping is the antics of Flair overselling 😜
We need more of these! I love the documentaries you make.
I’ve seen all from 1980-Now I’m from NY I’ve been to many Supercards/PPVs I watch all wrestling promotions around the world what a life of wrestling throughout the decades I’ve attended every ECW Supercard/PPV many memories
I was there!
Was it as crazy in person as it was on TV?
@ yes I think we were all certain he died because a bunch of us saw how awkward the fall was.
@@asparkoflife85 sheesh
Grimes should have told Jack before going up the balcony that he was not comfortable with doing the spot
Maybe he didn’t know how uncomfortable he was going to be until he was up there and looking down? New Jack has passed away and he STILL scares me! 😄

More ECW content, please!
Great work guys

He took no account for Grimes’ safety both times.
The first one just hurt him worse.
Amazing video

Oh wow. Why didn't I know both falls were New Jack vs Vic Grimes.
Why is the VCR in Russian, did you buy one from Del Boy?
New episodes yesss!!!! 🙌 👏 👏 👏
good video
I’m proud to have my high school graduation in this building
How Jack survived that fall we'll never know.
Ironic, New Jack being all upset because he got hurt... because of the actions of the other guy...
His actions caused the fall and injury.
Period.
@TimTE01 new jack maimed dozens, caused major Injuries.. bragged about it... he gets hurt once... and then cried foul.. of course the spot was his fault.
great as always jack
Wing Kinemura, Jado and gedo was there thats wild

Did you have to say "Jack counted to three and tugged the super heavyweight off"? 😂
Anybody know if Grimes is still active or not?
RIP owen hart u are missed
New jack had no business in professional wrestling....people talk about HBK being on drugs back in the 90's hell the whole ECW was coked up lol
Man you cannot make this up
That’s why I never like jack. Grimes got scared, new jack is just a pos.
people from the industry can learn from this

Hey jack I love this series but I must ask what happened to you hosting the weirdest episodes of raw etc.
This was mad
RIP new jack
The true story: ECW was dumb, New Jack was an awful human being, and some fans like trash.
It seems like every bad thing to happen in ECW, involved New Jack in some way or another 😂😂😂
Let's not forget , Terri Runnels who's still really beautiful imo , let NewJack poke her .
If you're gonna pull off a 350lb bald dude you better make sure he doesn't end up on your face. Advice to live life by

So now that we have gayne how about gedo becomes an equivalent grado parody?
8 mins of a 14 min video about the spot and they still haven't got to it 😂

New Jack and Vic Grimes was a choice, Owen’s fall was an accident. Why even bring Owen’s name in with these two???
Rollie pollie lol
