I think Corinne being shown messing things up for the three girls who will eventually become her friends is a reference to the original story, where D'Artagnan also unknowingly pisses off the other musketeers one right after the other (causing all three of them to challenge him to a duel later, and then all showing up at the same time as each other's backup).

Are you referring to the movie with Tim Curry who happened to play the role of the villain like he did in the barbie movie? If so then that is one of the most enjoyable if not underrated and unappreciated movies.

@@bookwormgamer3924 The original Musketeers is based on a book. Where you have four main characters, d’Artagnan who is an young carefree guy dreaming of being an musketeer and getting in trouble with the three musketeers at his first day in Paris, so they challenge him for an duel. And the actual musketeers Aramis, Porthos and Arthos.

Tyler Hill I am guessing that this is also a joke about Joan of Arc who was burned at the stake for many charges placed against her and one of them was her dressing up in male clothing when it was considered blasphemous to do so.

Travis De La Fuente the guillotine wasn't invented until the French Revolution and most Muskateer stories take place around the reign of Louis the Sun King who is the 14th Louis not the 16th Louis. Before then most beheadings were caused by either ax or sword if they were lucky. Still it is also a joke that has to do with how they treated Joan of Arc who was burned at the stake and one of the reasons why was because she wore pants and that was considered blasphemous.

'Did your father tell you you wouldn't amount to anything?'
*HOLY SHIT* I just realized something....Barbie's father is never present in ANY of these films. Did he tell her that before leaving the family behind? Went out to buy cigarettes and never came back? So Barbie feels she must excel at everything possible to subconsciously prove to him and herself he was wrong??
Holy shit. That would actually make a great Barbie movie if they had the absentee father return and try to reconcile the relationship with his daughter. But Barbie is much to hurt to want anything to do with him...

I feel like one of the few Barbie movies that has close to actual thinking in the script was Princess Charm School. Yeah, it had the Mariposa fairy knock-offs for whatever reason and some cliches like the brief mention of Barbie being found in a doorstep as a baby/lost princess trope but it was shown from the beginning of the film that Barbie was a teen/young adult working on an all day job at a coffee place to support her sick mother and sister and she was the only source of income provided. They lived in a shitty apartment but she always kept a smile on her face for her sister, playing along with her princess fantasies because it's what makes her happy.
And later on in the movie when the villain announced the construction of a new park which would be right where she lived, Barbie was completely against it because of the fact that it would leave her family and neighbors out of a home that they just managed to afford even though the villain was saying the benefits of a park would be wonderful. Honestly I never really expected this type of stuff to show up in Barbie films. The last I remember of something similar is with the Princess and the Pauper with Teresa having to work in a place to pay off the debt her dead parents left her with.

    Better plot:
    Act 1:
    .
Corinne was the daughter of one of the original Three Musketeers, who taught her his moves for self defense encase she finds herself in a pickle.
She wants to be a Musketeer, enspite knowing the gender roles at the time period saying that she shouldn't, and her mom gives her the phrase they share in the movie already.
Corinne makes it to the castle, and is stopped by Tim Curry (I know his character has a name, but he's just Tim Curry)'s lead guard basically has that "Know your place wench" sorta deal, and Corinne challenges him to a duel. First, he feels like he's above it, but she forces him too after drawing her blade and taking stance, and stating that it'd be honorable.
Corinne would lose the fight, but was a lot harder than he thought she would be, this is when Louie's head of guard shows up and takes her in as a female bodyguard for the prince, seeing that no one would expect a woman to be good in swordplay, let alone as good as she is.
    .
Tim Curry starts working on his plan to kill his cousin, starting the main conflict.
    .
    Act 2:
    .
Corinne is taken to the castle, where she bonds with the prince and meets the handmaids, who don't have any skill.
They dislike her due to being Louie's "favorite" maid, often going on trips outside of the castle while they are just stuck there.
The Chandelier scene still happens, only Corinne saves all their butts, instead of them just being automatically good.
However, we will keep on thing in tact, as Corinne is still human, she doesn't see that another piece of the chandelier is falling onto her, causing Renée (the girl with the feather duster) to do the crap she did in the movie, only just pushing the piece out of the way.
Seeing potential in her, she goes to her Higher up and talks to him about making sort of a "Charlie's Angels" sort of group, only to protecting the Prince. Due to feeling the chandelier falling was no accident, and he might need extra protection. He agrees, and Corinne meets Granny Matrix, and they set up a training area.
A few weeks, let's just say two, pass and the two other girls noticed that their fellow cleaner hasn't been with them as often as she used to. This makes Viveca wondering where she went, so she talks Aramina into helping her look for her.
They stumble into the "Barbie Cave," and see Renée training her butt off with Corinne, and wanting to know what the heck is going on.
After seeing what Corinne is planing, they also want to be Musketeers, even though Corinne isn't exactly thrilled about this, she lets them join anyway, and they due the "one for all, and all for one" thing.
    .
At this part of the story, Tim Curry plans to kill the Prince by challenging him to a duel in his party thing. But suspects Corinne to be a problem, so:
    .
    Act 3:
    .
Tim Curry's guard has them kicked out for plotting the Prince's death, and her learners wish to leave with her "One for all, and all for one."
So they are all kicked out, kind of being the final clue for *insert who'd be the smartest one here* to figure out that Tim Curry was the villain, and knew that they'd be a threat to him.
So, pulling an Oceans 11, the make a plan to break into the party and still do their jobs.
Corine and Renée, being the most trained, would dress as guards and check for Tim Curry and his goons, while Viveca and Aramina would get all pretty and make sure the Princess isn't hurt if Tim Curry was already in the ballroom.
Aramina dances with Louie, and... Well, Sorry Bob but: 17:17 but instead of Corinne, it'd be Aramina. Who gets her butt handed to her, then Corinne comes in and saves her butt.
A fight scene ensues with Tim Curry's lackeys, Aramina, Viveca, Corinne, and the Prince, and I mean, a fight scene. Not an easy win for the girls, no they earn that win.
Tim Curry escapes outside and Renée goes to confront him, putting up a tiny bit of challenge, but ultimately gets pushed aside.
Corinne finds her pupal injured, and takes on Tim Curry on one v one, using Renée's sword along side her own, ending up beating him.
The girls are official Musketeers in secret, and happily ever after, the end.
    .
Something I missed? Is this better than the movie itself?
    Let me know. :3

4:35-5:05 I believe that was meant to be a call back to the original story where D'Artagnan (who Corinne is the epoxy of in this film) ends up getting himself into three duels with three of the King's Musketeers (Athos, Porthos and Aramis) on his very first day in Paris. Granted, it's established in the story that D'Artagnan is a well meaning country lad who is courageous and loyal...but is also incredibly naive, somewhat careless and almost always acts before he thinks...which makes Corinne's established exploits somewhat pointless in this film. Yeah, let's see how awesome she is at swordfighting...only for that to go completely out the window for no other reason than to tie it in with the first story.

Not sure if this is better or worse than The Three Dogateers. Also, I don't know why they seem to be treating musketeers as knights, "rescuing princes" and stuff. They do realize musketeers are SOLDIERS, right? Knights were also soldiers, but have been heavily used in fantasy. Musketeers were basically early riflemen. I'm not against integrating the military, but it's different having a story about a female hero slaying a dragon and going on a quest and a story about a female hero learning ninja skills to become line infantry. I'm not saying you can't make a story about that(Mulan is about a woman who becomes a war hero, for example), but you have to treat it differently and with some level of respect.

Honestly, I don't really mind it when movie's set in historical time periods use modern music, but I think it's better to mix it with historical accurate music to keep the suspension of disbelief intact. A good example is the Great Gatsby. While the soundtrack is mostly comprised of present day music that fits the party theme, it was still smart enough to add some 20's elements like jazz music. In fact, they even took a modern song "Crazy in Love" and made a 20's cover of it specifically for the movie.

I will give the movie props that it seems like the writers read the source material, at least somewhat (I did chuckle at some scenes where they outright referenced and retold the original book. Except the Lady D'Winter part. That felt like a slap in the face, considering SHE'S THE VILLAIN OF THE BOOK, AND A DANG MENACING ONE, TOO.), and didn't assume it was just about three knight buddies, but...so many things, I question.
The most prominent of which being how, even though this is a supposed sequel, HOW IS KING LOUIE STILL ALIVE, MUCH LESS A PRINCE?!
Also, wanting to be a musketeer just for the outfit? ...You sure you just don't want to be the world's first cosplayer? (I mean, granted, you'd probably get arrested for posing as a public officer)

The idea behind the basic story of this movie could work. Maybe the old woman specifically finding a group of girls with the right talents to serve in the Royals’ house in order to perform some espionage to undermine a family that usurped the throne. The old woman could be in contact with the prince-in-hiding, using the girls to infiltrate and prepare for a revolution to return him to the throne.
A little bit of political intrigue, a few action scenes, etc.
    I’d watch it.

Daughter of a Musketeer? Works for me. My favorite classical Hollywood actress, Maureen O'Hara played that role, so I respect the carp out of this.
As for being a female Musketeer... aside from the obvious hiding of her gender, a tactic used I believe into WWI, there's the Chevalier d'Eon. You can quibble about the gender issue but the Chevalier was called Mademoiselle and may have been partially hermaphroditic. Maybe Jeanne d'Arc reference? Depends how you interpret her.
Authentic period music? Nope. Should have been authentic period technology? Absolument. Reminds me of DaVinci and his mechanical man or the several mechanical creations of the Golden Age Muslim polymaths.
Matrix Musketeers? There was a live action movie like that, very much a wire-fu interpretation, most likely for cynical reasons, as standard swashbuckling is tame by modern standards, hence why regular fisticuffs is usually augmented or replaced with some flavor of hybrid martial arts.

Hmm... It would've made much more sense if French Barbie wanted to become the musketeer, while the other 3 just had an unharnessed natural talent for gracefulness, agility, and strength and then had to harness those traits with Ms. Miyagi. Would've made more sense than all of them just happening to want to be musketeers....

Musketeers were called that for a reason. They were armed with Muskets! French Musketeers were armed with swords as a secondary weapon.
