Wonderful. My sister who sadly died from cancer in 2020 picked La Calinda to be played at her funeral. She called it 'her ironing music' Miss you Babs.
Thank you Delius for this wonderful Suite inspired by your stay in Florida..Also thank you , who ever added these beautiful pictures,I had heard the suite before but the added pictures brought tears to my eyes..I was born and raised in this (one of a kind)State..I never saw snow till I was 67 and took a trip up north...(and whilst there was snow on the ground ,I have yet to see it fall from the sky) Now I am almost 85 and have made a point of seeing the sun rise every morning (though sometimes I cheat and go back to bed for awhile ...I also watch every sunset...At my age I don't know how many more I've got left so I cherish every one....Now that I have found "THIS" I shall watch it again and again .....
Thank you for this special comment. Each day is precious, as Delius can teach us about the transience of life and all things in Nature. Delians have a close bond with America Delius' music brings us together. As for snow I'm sure you will find some of that on this channel with Delius' Sleigh Ride and Winter Landscape from North Country Sketches. Living in North Yorkshire snow falls are not uncommon, the landscape is transformed as a silence descends upon the countryside, into a wonderland, that's until it all get slushy! Take care of yourself and enjoy many, many more sunrises, please do keep tuned-in to this channel and keep in-touch. Jayne Anne.
My dear fellow Floridian friend. I was born in Tampa but moved by my parents to Houston TX at a very early age. However, I have memories of many return trips to Florida in those long-ago days when Florida was much more like what Delius experienced. I now live in beautiful northern Arkansas, which is very much like the Appalachian country in which Delius resided for a while. Snow? You would quickly tire of it! Trust me, because it quickly turns to a nasty muddy slush and presents many hazards and inconveniences. God bless you.
Introduced to Delius by Sir Thomas Beecham when I was 35, Delius and I have been companions ever since as I approach my mid 80s. I love his magical impressionistic compositions and could listen to them all day, with help from TH-cam and my new AirPods as I go about my life with a friend.
Fantastic work by Frederick Delius. Delius' biography states that his greatest influences were Wagner and Grieg. But this work shows an influence from Rimsky-Korsakov.
THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ORCHESTRAL ACHIEVEMENTS OF ALL TIME, AND ONE MY FAVORITE PIECES EVER !!! CERTAINLY THE GREATEST ARTISTIC MASTERPIECE FROM ANYONE IN THEIR 20's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS A MIGHTY RIVER OF LIQUID GOLD !!!
More than any other composition by Delius (along with "Summer Evening"), these four exquisite pieces work a deeply nostalgic melancholy in me. I was born in Florida 77 years ago, and I spent much of my childhood there and in Appalachia, so my soul's connection with this music is deep. This is the one composition that I can never tire of hearing.
Thank you for sharing his with us Wayne. I can understand how you feel, I also often strongly relate Delius to a place, the North Country of England. There can be no doubt about the great influence his American experience in Florida had on his compositions. You must have some treasured memories and what better soundtrack for those than this piece by Delius.
As a musician who comes from a musical family, I always thought that Delius deserved much greater recognition for his accomplishments. His magnificent works affect me just as deeply as Beethoven, Mozart and other greats.
When I first heard this magnificent work in full in the early 1970's for the first time, I was overwhelmed by the fact that I had heard pieces of it when I was a growing up in the 50's and 60's! It was used in certain Documentaries of TV shows about Nature! IT WAS AN OVERWHELMING EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR ME! Since then, I've listened to it hundreds of times. Beecham's version is the best one. All others, pale in comparison.
Delius' music is so often used in such a way because it is so emotionally powerful. It is so gratifying to eventually discover the origin and to fully appreciate the composer. Thank you.
In his later years the composer's wife, Jelke, and his closest friends called him "Fred". I am 77, a veteran of many years of symphonic performance and classical music broadcasting, and I can say without reservation that the Florida Suite is my absolute #1 all-time favorite music.
@@notmyworld44 Thanks Wayne, that is lovely. I agree, Florida Suite is up there for me. I prefer it to all of his later pieces and I play it at least once a week. Stunning piece

@@thedeliuschannel Yes! I too love his North Country Sketches. I relate to this music, because I have ancestral roots in the British north country.
Frederick Delius was so under-appreciated. His "Walk to the Paradise Garden" is simply stunning.

This Beauty and Comfort is immeasurable and profound and off the charts, and will slake and moisturize the dryness ok the soul
For me Frederic Delius is one of the best composers!
I love his works really, but sometimes it makes me sad, because it is so touching.
That is not an unusual reaction and sometimes it can seem just too much beauty and sadness to endure. Thank you.
One of my favorite listening experiences is this suite. Photos just lovely, appropriate, and transcending. Will replay many more times. Thank you.
Thank you Michael, much appreciated. Jayne Anne.
Back to America's original traditional meditational quiet time music that's good for the heart!!
Fabulous.
probably in my top5 pieces Thank you

Are there any manchineel trees around those parts of Florida?
I think they were native to Florida, perhaps someone can provide a better answer.
@@thedeliuschannel they're the most dangerous trees in the world.
